  • It's good to play a mixture of 'Land Of The Fathers' and 'God Save The Queen' but it's even nicer to play a full welsh anthem.

  • It's not the full Welsh anthem though, only the 2nd part of it. Wish I could find some old S4C closedowns - they used to play it in full. I live in north-west England, but could pick up HTV and S4C as well (albeit with crap receptions)

  • Seems like they were tryintg to placate both the English and the Welsh by playing both Anthems. How come they never did that in Scotland or N. Ireland? seems strange, maybe it's political.

  • @Feisty1967 Welsh anthem embraced all people in welsh, while playing any of the anthems of northern ireland or scotland will have not satisfied nobody in the CC's, because the majority of unionists in scotland will don't like to hear flower of scotland and the minority of independentist would prefer that song to scotland the brave which is neutral. In northern ireland the irish anthem may have be played but unionists will prefer a Londonderry air.

  • Can Anybody Upload more of BBC Wales from 1984?

  • soo great the Welsh anthem... greetings from Stuttgart / Germany

  • At least wales played its own national anthem aswell, not like scotland or ireland.

  • this globe appeared last night

  • It's in Wales, the capital city of Wales.

  • Hairs on the back of the neck stuff with the two anthems, although Mae Hen Wlad fy Nhadau beats God Save the Queen ;)

  • @DuncanMcA Same here! Don't know why though lol

  • It doesn't have the full version of God save the Queen.

  • Yeh I said that below lol

  • Scandalous!! The Welsh anthem!...And not even the full version!!! Sod the Madge!

  • Didn't play the full version of either anthems.

  • This London from 12.04am!!

  • Closedown from Sunday 5th Ferburary 1984

(Early hours Monday 6th Ferburary 1984)

  • this can't be from 1984 because it has the mechanical clock

  • This clip is from 1984 as BBC Wales did not have a computer generated clock until 1985 when the 'COW' globe was introduced.

  • The welsh were always slow at catching up! Lol.

  • Could be 7th May or 27th August 1984, less likely to be 28th May.

  • Great the way BBC Wales closed down with both the Welsh and UK National Anthems, and the little greeting in Welsh, too. Why BBC Wales and not BBC1 Wales? What did they call themselves when there was local stuff on BBC2 Wales?

  • They extremely rarely did local stuff on BBC2.

  • Until, I think, the late 90s, the channel was referred to as "BBC Wales on One" in announcements, whereas now it's the much less cumbersome "BBC1 Wales". They did the same on BBC2 I think (whenever there were Welsh opt-outs, although they were less common on BBC2 then than now).

  • what do you mean "why"?

  • There are LOADS of clips like this on Youtube. Just because someone has posted something on here that you don't like doesn't mean that you go around asking why they uploaded it! YouTube is for EVERYONE, and EVERYONE has different opinions. I like this stuff, you hate it, I like Punk, goth, emo, metal and indie for my music, you might hate them. EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT. GET OVER IT!

  • @AidanLunn - Aidan, its called light and shade! (sighs in disbelief)

  • @darrowby1972 What's called light and shade? You''re replying to something I said years ago, you know, so I don't know what you're on about.
