  • seriously try putting the light on the outside of the window for heat without pointing the light right into the box.

  • @alantecontra light on, light off, light inside the box, light NOT in it, light dimmed WAY down, light all the way up, ALL that makes no diff - he won't go in there, for ANY reason...my two 'mostly indoor' cats love the box, though, and 'walk right on into it' like it's walmart. but I didn't make the box/house for them...and they sleep indoors, out of the weather...

  • @hardwares1 i know how u can get him in that box it WILL work. GO to walmart and buy katnip :D my cat loves it all cats do i think . try it and tell me if it works. u can just sprinkle it in the box, and plus it'll get rid of that polyeurothane (i think thats what is called) smell so message me back n tell me what happens. Thanks.

  • Have you tried putting his food/water bowls in there? Or just a couple of kitty treats? I've always found that a cats mind is ruled by its stomach! Love the house and you obviously love your cat a lot! Loved watching these videos and seeing your enthusiasm!

  • @nat2nathan2005 I've tried everything, including moving his food dishes closer to the entrance of the cat house a half-inch per day. nothing works, he won't go in there, for ANY reason, no matter HOW cold (temperature in the mid teens, this past winter) or how rainy/windy it is outside...

  • I leave the lite on INSIDE the cat house day and nite, just to sort of 'remind him' it's there. and his food bowls just outside its' entry door. he still acts like the thing is a block wall, though...

the polyurethane's all dry, then I coated the entire interior with interior latex, and exterior with exterior latex.

still "a big fat won't-go in there" situation, though...

if he ever DOES start going in, I'll be looking into the pad you suggested - it DOES sound good.

    *thanks* :-)

  • also changed the bulb in there to a 90 watt halogen flood (hooked to a dimmer), instead of a 'regular' ol' screw-in 100 watt (without a dimmer). the flood bulb seems to have WAY better heat output. I SURE wish he'd go in there. haven't bothered with a door flap yet - for all I know, he may -never- go in there. figure he needs to START using it for a wk or 2 before I put a flap door on it...he still sleeps on that fat feather pillow in the chair, under the clamp-lamp w/100 watt bulb.

  • well, he's STILL a very flakey fellow. hasn't gone into it YET, been about 10 days now. both my other 'mostly indoor' cats have gone into it, even -while- he was outdoors on the back patio, -but- he was 'looking the other way' and didn't see them either go INTO it OR come back out...and, I bought an 'old fashioned' heating pad on ebay, (it *doesn't* have the 'auto-off after 2 hours' "feature" the new ones have). still, he doesn't go in there.

  • LOVE your cat house and all the care you put into it for your cat. K & H Lectro outdoor pet heating pad is the best for your house (hard type, not soft type since cats have claws!) stays at constant 15-12 degrees above ambient temp and heats up to 102F cats body temp when the cat sits on it. saw for as cheap as $45 (total w/shipping) on Ebay. Let us know if Loverboy ever goes in his house. Must be the off gassing of the polyurethane and foam insulation. takes a while to get rid of it.

  • @nikkintwo I actually bought a heating pad, and had it inside the cat house, under a towel. didn't matter though - he STILL won't go in there...our other two (mostly indoor) cats WILL go into the box, though, but they're -not- the ones that "need to", what with the freezing weather, rainstorms, etc..
