  • Lol they always get you when you monologue xD Lordie I wished my area had more springs and waterfalls...

  • Yikes! Close encounter with that hornet man. I found a nest at one of my recent haikyo explores. It looked like it was empty though, that goodness! Check it out: gakuranman {dot com] /ruins-of-the-imari-kawanami-wwii-shipyard/

  • my god that was hilarious when you sprinted away lmao

  • 2:58

I would want to get into that, but it looks like a strong current.

    3:30

O_O Wow. For a second there I thought I was underwater and watching a massive school of fish swim. Wow. Sugoi.

    END

"Leeches, giant butterflies, and now giant hornets." XD You are great man. Thanks for the video.

  • Incredible video.

  • Mr. Kurt this most beautiful landscape I have ever seen.

    Thanks for this nice tutorial

Take care, and good luck my friend ^ - ^

    You are awesome

  • ehhhhhhhh... I'm totally speechless! sooooo beautiful!! Thank you so much for posting this Kurt!

  • Nice video Softypapa!

I love the colour of the water a lot.

    Also the cicadas are amazing!

Thank you very much for the video =)

..and for the warning as well. o.o.

  • nice vid beautifal place! good reactions in the get away from the wasp! they freakin scary, last week in my class which is by the hillside in okayama on 2nd floor a huge suzumebachi came thru the window-i was scared and wanted to leave but the teahcer just camly followed it and trapped it on the window with a plastic folder and flicked it outside-they must be used to them! lol stuff that!

  • Last Monday I uploaded a Nikko video at about 4:30am & packed for a trip down South with Fumi. We stayed at this nice resort down there which had Satelite TV with a doco channel called the discovery channel. Yesterday I watched a doco of a guys solo made video, very similar to your style. Only most of your vids are roughly 10 to 100 times better than this show on tv...I know I've said it a few times, but mate, its so great to have you back. Vids like this are the best on Youtube, loved it : )

  • @MicknFumi I know what that is like to start an upload in the wee hours of dawn. It's fun to go to bed & come back later to a finished project. I appreciate your nice words which mean a lot to me as you know how much I like your videos and channel. If you have not already done so then please check out my video "Thou Shalt Sweep Leaves in Japan" to see how much I like your stuff (most of the comments about you are at the end). Have a great weekend! ~Kurt :-)

PS I come to Australia in two weeks!!

  • Hey Kurt! I'm glad Suzumebachi didn't get you!!!! I was wondering when you would come across one this season. Anyway, another awesome video...FUDGE!! lol!

  • @gtpluvr No hiking season would be complete without at least one full-on sprint from Suzumebachi. With that done I can settle in to enjoy the fall. Thank you for watching and commenting! Have a great day! ~Kurt :-)

    Oh, and FUDGE!!! :-)

  • Great hike!

  • @qiranger Thank you for watching! It's always a pleasure to visit your channel. I hope you and your wife are enjoying a fun weekend in South Korea. I'm about to head home from work (working holiday). I hope my family and I can get out and enjoy the last of this splendid weather. After that I plan to battle my way to the title of "Grand Champion" in a full-on Mario Kart battle against my wife and kid! Yippie it's the weekend at last! ~Kurt :-)

  • Amazing I was gobsmacked All the way through this video! Keep it up!

  • @EntmootNC Wow! I don't think I have ever "gobsmacked" anyone before (at least not since college). Thanks for watching and commenting! ~Kurt :-)

  • Great video Kurt....but be careful of those giant hornets. We don't want you to get hurt. Looking forward to part 2......... Doug =)

  • @tbone1143 Thanks for the nice words and concern. ~Kurt :-)

  • Simply wonderful, thank you.

  • @cmb17 I'm happy you liked this video. Thank you for letting me know. ~Kurt :-)

  • The sounds are so awesom, beautiful.

  • @watercopper I'm so happy you enjoyed the sounds. Thank you for letting me know. ~Kurt :-)

  • Kurt be careful off those hornets! Wow those Suzumebachi are some darn scary things.

  • @delta1O5 They sure are. I used to surf in remote cold waters frequented by Great White sharks though these hornets often seem more a threat (at least I sure do see them more often) than those giant sharks. ~Kurt :-)

  • Thanks again for a great video. Keep it up and stay safe.

  • @tygerclaw1 Thanks so much! I promise to do both. ~Kurt :-)

  • Great video. Its always enjoyable when you check out old structures, bridges, ect

  • @shobidoo2 Thank you for letting me know what you like to see. There are plenty of old buildings to share and I will keep your interest in mind when hiking in the future. ~Kurt :-)

  • The shot of the flowers and the cricket is beautiful! I love how you said the giant hornet caught you in a monologue.

  • @vandrewlongstrider The flowers (& especially the crickets) were likely the high-points of this entire hike for me. There was something very magical about the sound the crickets made, in broad daylight, and in stereo no less, which drew me in like a strong gravity and caused me to just sit and soak it up. I tried to capture the feeling on video though I fear my efforts may have yielded only a part of what the true atmosphere was like (isn't that always the case, though). Thanks for watching! :-)

  • Awesome! I love these vids keep them coming!

  • @nagaempress Will do! Thanks for watching! ~Kurt :-)

  • breath taking views!! thanks for taking me with you...i really wish next time..i am 'really' there to breath the fresh air and feel nature.keep it up,kurt!

  • @mamika302910 If you make it to Shizuoka (on a Sunday when I am not working) then I promise to take you to this very spot! We'll eat rice balls together at the shrine and ponder the life and living of the (few) people (and their dogs) who call these mountains home. ~Kurt :-)

  • Wow, that river was just so beautiful and soothing. It made me calm watching it all the way from Holland. You don't see such beautiful nature here and that's why i love watching your video's.

  • @robbjee Thank you for watching. I have been to your country several times and was always amazed by the splendid countryside. I usually stayed near the old fortress at Naarden and would sometimes spend my summer evenings riding my bicycle around the fields and canals in the surrounding area. Such pleasant memories of an amazing and beautiful country. And don't even get me started on Amsterdam which ranks next to Barcelona as my two fav cities on earth. ~Kurt :-)

  • Hey Kurt great video as always, you must of been really scared of the of the Hornet to say hell, and fudge pretty funny atleast you apologized afterwards.can't wait for part 2

  • @nunnu3000 Yes, those words are about as bad as I let myself go on camera. That big hornet's up-close intro really did freak me out a bit. I usually have some warning that they are coming (hear them) though with this one I did not hear anything until it had almost landed on my face. ~Kurt :-)

  • Awesome video Kurt! such beautiful scenery there! Man, it kinda scared me when you just up and took off like that, didn't know what was going on :P Can't wait for part 2 :)

  • @Mystek23 Thank you for your nice words. I probably over-reacted a bit with the hornet though that thing sure looked big so up-close-and-personal. Thank you again for watching and commenting! ~Kurt :-)

  • amazing scenery! i envy u.

  • @sarheed79 I'm so happy I could share this experience with you. Thanks for watching! ~Kurt :-)

  • Pretty amazing.

  • @Hatterific I'm happy to hear that you found this outing interesting. Thanks for watching! ~Kurt :-)

  • If it's a road it's on google earth, you can save some time. lol

  • @Hatterific Good point! Thanks. ~Kurt :-)

  • Great video Kurt, it is scenes like these that keep my motivated to continue with my teaching degree so I can live and work in Japan in a few years time. One thing I must remember when I get there is to bring LIGHT COLORED CLOTHING! haha

    Can't wait for part 2 :)

  • @AnfoAU Thank you for your nice words. Good luck with your studies! Please let me know if you ever have questions about living and working in Japan. ~Kurt :-)

  • your brave kurt i would flip out if a leech was on me lol

  • @bassman29033 I did flip out the first time this happened. It's happened so many time since now that I don't even bother to check like I used to. But it still startles me whenever I find one on me. Thanks for watching! Have a great day! ~Kurt :-)

  • I think that this question has been asked many times before but what video camera do you use for these videos? I gather you use a different camera for the stills...am I right?

    I love your videos!

JapanChannelDCom+softypapa = the 2 best YouTubers I've encountered so far!

I'll try and spread the word as far and wide as I possibly can...you really deserve it!

  • @fan4nintendo I'm happy to answer about my cameras. I use an inexpensive Sanyo Xacti (waterproof model) as my video unit. Stil photos are with my trusty Nikon D70s.

I'm honored to mentioned alongside JapanChannelDCom which I agree is one of the best Japan channels on YouTube. His dedication to diverse and regular coverage of Japan is a real inspiration to me. Thanks again for your nice words!

    Have a great day! ~Kurt :-)

  • Wow! For a moment I thought you were in an earthquake! Great video :) :)

  • @ladyofthelake3 I'm sorry if I spooked you. ~Kurt :-)

  • WOW Everything was so beautiful. Can't wait for part Two. Nice Job Kurt you make perfect vidoes :)

  • @Kenpachizeraki56 Thank you for your nice words. I'm encouraged to get out and make more! ~Kurt :-)

  • Ahhhhh. Japan. Land of spiders and hornets the size of sparrows. Beautiful video all-around Kurt! ^^

  • @martian622 I'm so happy you liked this video. ~Kurt :-)

  • I loved seeing the wasabi terrace and that beautiful gorge! You are very brave for crossing that bridge, I don't think I would have been able to! -Alison

  • @UnseelieQueen Wasn't that wasabi terrace amazing. If you liked that then I would like to recommend another video of mine called "Wasabi Gone Wild" where I share a wasabi terrace where the wasabi has escaped to grow wild along the banks of the chill stream. Thanks again for watching and sharing your comments! ~Kurt :-)

  • Wow nice pictures. keep going :D

  • @Sharkk1990 Thanks! I have more videos coming up which will allow me to share the rest of this adventure with you. Thank you for letting me know of your interest! ~Kurt :-)

  • i really hope i can get the opportunity to hike this, i love nature hikes up a mountain

  • @MahoRoulete I hope that you get the chance as well. Let me know if you come through Shizuoka and I will take you alone with me into the deep mountains! ~Kurt :-)

  • The Japanese hornets are getting hungry and cranky this time of year.

  • @Strideo1 You are so right. Nearing the end of their life-cycle and feeling the strain of hunger, cold, diminished pheromones from their queen and perhaps even a sense of their own impeding doom. I guess I'd be angry too. ~Kurt :-)

  • Nice!

  • The bamboo water fountain thing in the wasabi field is called "sōzu" (添水), which is a type of shishiodoshi (lit. "deer scarer). Although it is nowadays mostly found in Japanese gardens, it was originally used to scare away birds and other animals from the fields. So maybe that's why somebody put it in the wasabi field.

  • @plathhs Thank you for sharing this wonderful information! I had no idea about the original use of these devices. It looks like this one may have been put in place as an actual farmer's tool to keep the deep and other animals off the wasabi. That's a first for me to see. Thanks again! ~Kurt :-)

  • oh, you could totally get across that bridge in the beginning. If I ever come out that way, I want to cross it.

I love these vids- I almost never see nature anymore in LA

  • @leloodallasmultipass There are many old dilapidated structures like this in the mountains here. I suspect you would have a great time if you came out to see them for yourself. ~Kurt :-)

  • Another fantastic video Kurt! :)

  • @TheGhostOfSabotage I'm so happy you liked it. Thank you for letting me know. ~Kurt :-)

  • oh my this is beautiful !! i just can't wait for the second part! :D

  • @lovemac95 I'm so happy you liked this video. I will be working on part 2 this evening. Thanks for watching! Have a great day! ~Kurt :-)

  • Softypapa, this worries me! Is there not a hornet sting kit that you can carry, like people do who are allergic to bees?

I enjoyed your wonderful hike until the hornet came after you. Everything was so beautiful!

  • @Claycat4 Thank you so much for your concern. I'm not aware of any portable anti-venom or procedures which one might use as in the case of a snake bite. I promise to try and be more careful in the future and do a better job selecting clothing on such hikes (especially during the fall). Thanks as always for watching! And thank you for your nice concern. ~Kurt :-)

  • I would to go hiking with you, one day. I used to hike a lot in the mountains.

Wow! you managed to out run a hornet? He mjust of thought you were not worth the chase...LOL.

    Great video, beautful area.

  • @Theytoldmetodoit1 I'm happy to hear that you enjoy hiking too. I think you are right in pointing out that the hornet probably simply lost interest in me. If it had really wanted to attack me I would have been a pretty easy target (especially wearing all that black). Have a great day! . ~Kurt :-)

  • I'm scared of heights too, but I love looking over the edge of high things, because its just fun, and this is the first time I heard you say hell, hah, I like that you apologized afterwards.

Nice hike video, can't wait for part 2!!

  • @ChrisXDumbass I'm delighted that you enjoyed this video and were able to join me in looking over the edge of some high, scary spots. I will be working on part 2 tonight and hope to have it posted soon. Thank so much for watching! . ~Kurt :-)

  • SO beautiful. I have to live there. everything about this place is gorgeous. you are very lucky your in such an amazing place kurt.

  • @martiniforlunch92 This particular area is indeed quite special. What's interesting is to consider that this is just one such place in a large range of mountains filled with silent, dying villages. Japan is now largely an urban society (in preference at least) and the impact of this is both profound and startling to those who wander the lonely mountain roads. ~Kurt :-)
