  • Not Jusin Beiber,,,I truly feel sorry for kids now

  • @davidabinns Hey but there are still kids nowadays that listen to great music. ._. I mean, why even bring him up? There's just no point. Yeah, he sucks, let's build a bridge and get over it.

  • @rudyj2 They been since amazing ever since they were part of The British Invasion.

  • Is this the same concert where Keith collapsed behind the drums?

  • @blutocampbell Yes. It was at the Cow Palace. You could tell anyway. Moon seems REALLY out of it.

  • For me, this is the best version

  • The Who Reign O'er Me

  • Someone bring the 70's back. I miss good music.

  • 3:38 SO POWERFUL

  • 3:40 SO POWERFUL

  • @ragatuxa16 Your mom's pussy. SO POWERFUL

  • I've cried.

  • This is the greatest rock band ever assembled.

  • This may have been Daltrey's finest hour. Astounding!

  • This song has such an incredible power. That is what The Who means to me, youth and power. Just listen to "Magic Bus". It's such a great song, but it's also one big build-up. It gathers all the energy around it but doesn't waste it, so when the next song comes, you are ready to jump around, bang your head, scream euphorically and break shit

  • One of the most powerful songs about which I had known only by now!

  • When you're into music ...and you never disocvered The Who you might die deaf, dumb and blind!

  • love the section at 2:10 especially the chord at 2:19 so uplifting

  • must be real hard to play such complex songs to a track when drunk..so sad the best who album has the worst/ least recordings live, thanks for finding and putting this one up

  • The Who used synths how they should of been used and pulled it off... and then the 80s shat on it.

  • I love how when John hits his open E the sound sorta cuts out. Classic.

  • 9 people don't have musical taste

  • amazing. amazing <3 < 3 <3

  • Fuckin' Massive!!!

  • 0.o THAT HAIR!!!

  • Roger Daltrey

  • So epic. Thank God tapes like this survived. What else touches this?

  • the greatest front man, the greatest bass player, the greatest rythm guitar player / songwriter the GREATEST drummer. nuff said

  • I love this song and know im gonna get bashed but i love eddie vetter version better

  • 4:13 now THAT'S what you call determination!

  • @NYCadet273 THAT'S what you call passion!

  • im a Zeppelin man, but The Who is right there with them, man they are just kicking all kinds of ass with this song, and all the others i have heard of them, fan fuckin tastic !!!

  • SKELETON SUIT, FTW. The Who rule. :)

  • yeah chills, goose bumps this songs causes this and more. I get so emotional listening to these kind of songs. thats when i can tell its really a good song when it hits you hard in the heart and soul. excuse me while I dry my tears......

  • I was 2!!!! Phenomenal.

  • townsend is playing this different from the tabs i have managed to get of th net. !! awesome

  • @gazzaboy2531977 he hardly ever plays the same notes live, same as John.

  • Roger Daltrey is the most powerful singer to ever take the stage...

  • @SnapeKid : one of the most....

  • @SnapeKid and in my opinion, only gets better with age

  • I by NO means want to come off self-righteous about the dilemma of anyone's addiction - certainly, it's an 800-lb gorilla on one's shoulder. And I say that as one who as a young man "experimented" with a few substances myself. So I totally get why one might "try" drugs. But I guess I just hate to see someone so extraordinarily talented, who has brought so many such joy through his music, throw it all away so pointlessly - that and the fact that he should have had the courage to seek help.

  • i've gone on a few 'the who' videos cos im interested and you've got loads of morons going on about how all music today is crap which isnt true! if you judge that opinion on what most people listen to then you might see it's a bit rubbish, but then that's the same as every era in music. The 60's and seventies were prolific times but we can only see what is brilliant twenty thirty years on!?!

  • The weatherman predicts more cool reign for this week.

  • was this the famous show where Keith passes out from horse tranquilizers?

  • @MOSKII58 Yes it is

  • I can't believe what an incredible song this is. Townshend is absolutely a genius. AMazing metaphor, filled out perfectly lyrically, not ot mention the beauty of the music.

Just astonishing. A very high bar to match for sure.

  • Pete is par w/ the best writers, lennon & Mccartney, Paul Simon, Billy Joel, elton, & so on..Stones.etc

  • Pete Townshend is probably the greatest "all around" singer/songwriter/musician/producer/showman. The only one who can come close is Paul McCartney.

  • @MrTrajan69 I only disagree because the person who bests Pete and Paul is Prince.

  • @EFunkRock :I would agree with you ten years or more ago...as much as I adore his back catalogue,he's ruining it with shitty albums and songs these last..what is it..15 yrs or so?..And he's only in it for himself,aparently..

  • @MrTrajan69 David Bowie? Freddy Mercury? Phil Colins? Alice Cooper? I think they come as close as Paul.

  • @MrTrajan69 Not to dis McCartney, but he wasn't exactly a fantastic showman or producer... He was/is pretty boring live (compared to these guys at least), and Paul doesn't produce... Plus his lyrics got so marijuana-infested that that went downhill... At best he was a pretty decent singer and a pretty good bassist...

  • @MrTrajan69 Bowie.

  • That would be badass if this was on a dvd set.

  • All hail fritzcam !!

  • Roger is a god damn sexy beast.

  • ya even when he has a rig sticking outta his arm....

  • @clerical12 what the

  • Can't think of any other rock band so immensely talented at every key position. And even though Townsend was never exactly a guitar genius, he nonetheless was brilliant at how he musically, melodically, texturally, sonically, and theatrically incorporated it. Also is a wonderful composer/lyricist. Daltrey: a voice with the range, timbre and power of the gods. Entwistle: lead bass extraordinaire, phenomenal improviser. Moonie: A wildly manic, cymbal-crashing genius - the rocket driving the band!

  • dont forget john i and his fucking amazing bass

  • ok i didnt read it right u did mention john

  • Yeah - greatest rock bassist EVER. And where is he - DEAD! For all his amazing talent, I can't for the life of me understand why someone who survived Woodstock and the '60s drug culture, could nonetheless still manage to die of drug abuse all the way into the 2000s. How stupid, how tragic, and how totally unnecessary! Still, I'm grateful for the brilliant tracks he left behind. But just like all addicts, John first started getting high and thinking he could handle it. Guess not.

  • @philipatoz :you ever wondered WHY he did all those drugs?..You may say he's stupid,he might have thought different,right?..You ever thought about the ones who like to live fast and take the risk of dying maybe for reasons you will never understand?..Just a thought ;)

  • It really doesn't matter WHY Entwistle continued to do drugs, as the end result would still be that they helped kill him. And when you think how selfish and narcissistic one is to put their family through drug addiction and to subsequently cause them to suffer through the emotional agony of losing a father, son or brother, well, it's just very sad and unnecessary. The only difference between John and addicts on the street is that John could afford to live comfortably while indulging his demons.

  • @philipatoz :and so he did..Ever wondered WHY someone ever started to do drugs?..Selfish in your view maybe,to some there'just no other way, believe it or not..And no,I don't think most drug users are proud of the things they put their family through..ask 'em ;)

reminds me a bit of suicide victims:you may think it's selfish, you can also say that there's just no sollution for some.

  • thanks wikipedia

  • Don't you have Won't Be Fooled Again from the very same concert ? I'm struggling to find Moon falling on his drums. Actually I can't believe it as long as I don't see it, regarding how he's still following the rhythm in this one (although the sound quality is not great enough to figure it out very well) !

  • Roger Daltrey is the greatest frontman in rock. He is also one of the greatest singers in rock and one of the few frontmen who acts like a man. The Who is the greatest live band.

  • Roger Daltrey made singing really high NOT gay.

  • haaha brilliant comment!!!

  • pete to keith @4:48 "whatever you do, please don;t pass out during the next number."

    guess what happens.....

  • id love to see the philadalphia spectrum concert 1973 or 1975 im not sure what year but i hear its great so far

  • Plant never blew up Mikes like Daltrey does. Plants voice was alot thinner than Daltrey's.

  • plants garbage.

  • yeah, plant stole rogers hair cut. Roger wears it much fucking better then that stupid screeching peice of shit. Roger lays down those monster yells, and plant just screams the whole entire concert/album. It gets annoying. Grow a ball sack plant.

  • OH and to TheLibertine1991, your wrong. Roger has a much more powerful, stronger voice then Plant, any day. Plant is a big fat peice of shit now and Roger is still fucking owning shit like you woudlnt believe. If you prefer screaming, screeching hippies then w/e yur opinion but ur wrong bud. Roger > Plant

  • In their primes, Roger had a voice tremendously more powerful than Plant's pathetic, high-pitched screechings. Roger had just an astonishing range and could hit those highs with power that just seemed endless. But now? I don't think so. I've heard YouTube videos of this tune in which he was just a shadow of the voice he once was. Likely way too many years competing with a guitar and bass cranked to 120 decibels. Lad is lucky to even hear, much less sing!

  • that is what happens when people get old

  • @philipatoz Wouldn't say Plant's vocal nuances were pathetic,..or most rock singers over the past 40 years wouldn't have tried to emulate him. Plant and Daltrey are legends as are Jones and Entwhistle, Moon and Bonham, Townsend and Page. It isn't a competition. It's great music for all of us to enjoy. Take the good in everything and everything good will follow

  • OK, maybe using the word PATHETIC was a bit harsh, as I DO appreciate Robert on various LZ tunes. And you're right, its not a competition, but I do believe that we all make personal judgments about the level of quality of various performances and performers. My observation is simply that Robert never had the power or range that Roger once did. It's just my opinion, but I feel that Plant tried to push his voice into ranges he really couldn't do justice, as he didn't have the pipes to do it.

  • @philipatoz Fair enough,...and as time went on Plant's voice did change, for better or worse is up for debate. Plant says in interviews his voice was at its best around 1975, so who knows. But in listening to multitudes of bootlegs, I would say Plant had the best pipes around between 68-71, almost out of control power. But Daltrey and Plant are 2 different styles of singers. Maybe Gillan and Plant would be a better comparison. Either way it's all good.

  • great comment mate- wish everyone had the same thought

  • @applesmurfen so their great artists that can't carry a tune? Can't get on board with that.

  • But you`re putting your finger on it right there: They are great artists, but not particularly great singers. Two different things. :)

  • @applesmurfen . But who else could have made it work so memorably to stand the test of time for generations to come and beyond !!! Could Janis Joplin sing Madam Butterfly to tune? But I'd bet it would be interesting... ;)

  • And that sir, put the finger on the point I was trying to get across. :)

  • i heard roger is actually deaf now, idk if it's true or not though.

  • Actually Pete is half deaf from the exploding drums from their performance on The Smother Brothers

  • @dankmon1992 :I think Pete's the one with hearing problems,Roger's the one who's lost his voice over the last yrs ;)

  • he got powerful voice than robert plant.

  • best video of the who live i've seen

    lotta pasion

  • Who is who ? Who as in Horton heres a Who ? Who said so ? I said who ? Who ?

  • you bonehead :P

  • I much prefer that end scream as opposed to the falsetto one he 's been doing the last 20 years.

Now ,-if only- I could do that ;)

  • At 60+ years old I don't think Roger can handle the gut wrenching screams anymore and fulfill a full tour. However those gut wrenching screams is where the emotion in this song is.

  • He definitely can't. His voice is shot. One thing that drives me nuts about these bands is that they are sell outs. Why do they have to sing songs that are out of their vocal range? The Who do it and so do the Stones. They can play whatever they want and people will come see them. Daltrey and Jagger need to dig deep into the catalogs and pull out material that they can handle.

  • Awesome! I have chills in my body already. Imagine hearing it with a better sound system, it's gonna make me float.

  • @cshel1987 I totally agree. I get chills every

    time I hear it!

  • impresionante the who, roger daltrey te sales como siempre.

  • I grew up to this song,it will die with me,its the best song the who did

  • Great video! although it kinda sucks that this is the only clip of this song live that I can find with Keith on drums, since he's obviously not at his best. (as evidenced by Pete talking to him at the end, and the fact that he does a facedrum before the end of the next song :P)

  • That yell sends shivers down my spine every time. So powerful.

  • In my mind, this is one of the greatest rock songs ever! First, melodically, it is absolutely beautiful as well as epically powerful. The strings, synth, dynamics, passionate delivery - all are simply awesome - no doubt Townsend at his compositional peak. Daltrey's vocals are so powerful and the register of his range are just amazing. I still get chills when I hear this through a great sound system, as this song is what great rock music is all about!

  • great song

  • love reign oer me

  • this video es sooooooooo gooddddddddd

  • I FUCKING LOVE THE WHO!

  • wasnt this the concert where keith collapsed?

  • Yeah he collapses after the next song "Won't Get Again"

  • won't get fooled again... ... ...

  • Oops, sorry I'm a idiot. How could I make a mistake like that?

  • And then again in Magic Bus

  • what a great and original song,i just love it! it's just the best song they done check out pictures of lily!loving that 2 x

  • naja..es gibt bessere wersionen

    EoE-Reign over me ist besser

diss ist Pearl Jam feat. the who

  • Roger Daltrey's vocals are simply amazing! John Entwistle isd an awesome bassist, Keith Moon unleashed Hell on his drums, and Pete Townshend is a brilliant guitarist! What a flawless band!

  • i only just shit my pants that was amazing

  • I'd consider John Enstwille, John Paul Jones of Zeppelin and John Deacon and Phil Lynnott the three greatest bassists ever.

The three Johns all used the bass like a lead instrument, they could pick and slap and always gave their own distinctive groove to all of their bands songs.

And we all know how good Phil Lynott was.

  • i agree

  • dude you are bang on - these four guys are indee the greatest bass players ever.

I also dig Paul McCartney a great deal - often under rated but if you listen to how the bass shaped the Beatles tracks (e.g. paperback writer) you see his genius at work). He was an all round musician rather than stricktly a bass player.

Lynot is amazing. John Decon, often forgotten but like McCartney, made a huge contribution to his bands 'sound'. As for Led Zep and Who, well, simply amazing bass players.

  • i agree with you.......but michael balzary (flea) from red hot chili peppers is also an amazing bassist

  • There's plenty of others, Chris Squire from Yes, Geddy Lee from Rush, and Jack Bruce from Cream all come to mind.

  • my, he was actually pretty handsome!

  • 1973, the year of my birth. God Bless The Who and any band like it that does it their way. Modern music is shit compared to this genius band.

  • everything nowadays is shit its un original like theres the occasional one that jumps off the page but all the mainstream crap just sucks

  • check out my songs... (if you do, I'm Coming For You Now and Don't Care At All are my best) though Summertime Breeze and some of the others are fine, just need to be rerecorded... tell me what you think... if your interrested that is.

  • Quadrophenia was where The Who started to change musically and this is their best work.

  • @swampdonkey5150 Dude i wish i was born on '73, that year they released quadrophenia, dark side of the moon, brain salad surgery, Thick as brick, Houses of the holy

  • @bigmanpigman Thick as a brick was released in 72, Passion Play was 73 both great albums and the list u just named were great to!

  • I have never heard too many of The Who's but whatever I listen I like. I am a big fan of Pearl Jam and they did a really good cover(which is what I heard first) but I can see why an original is an original.

    Really, really good.

  • This is really great, if the audio and video were better I think this might have been one of the best performances of this song.

    And if it were longer...

    P.S.

Moonie passes out during the next song they do, "Won't Get Fooled Again"

  • what about a cd and a dvd?! and it would also be nice of a nice live show from their who's next tour 71'. or what? I just got my hands on their amazing dvd "the who Kilburn 1977", really amazing to see how the band had changed from 1969 to 1977. also funny to see pete being so angry with the people around him. for example after "my wife", "i'm free" and "tommy's holiday camp", go boys!:)

  • would be cool if they made a dvd release of the 73' tour, perhaps not this show, but another one..would be so great to have for example an old classic version of love reign over me on dvd!!

  • oh my god that would be AMAZING or they could just release a cd of quadrophenia live or even just this song : )

  • The love of my life is in another country, more than 7000 miles away. Stop talking outa your ass and stop spamming such an amazing song.

    You need a life.

  • keith moon the keats of our time

  • is this the night keith passed out. i know its the same venue

  • I saw this live from the Who like 3 days ago. When they played this, it had the most energy and passion of any band I've ever seen(And I've seen the Stones, Aerosmith, Pearl Jam, Bob Dylan, Chili Peppers and U2)

  • afraid not....

  • no it is not

  • You're thinking of the film of that name? Pearl Jam did a cover of this for the end credits?

  • I Never Saw That Movie I Just Thought That Was The Name. And Pearl Jam Does A Pretty Good Version Of This Song. They Plated It On The Who Rock Honors On VH1

  • solo good keybord solo stil kstanding on there legs 30 years keith moon died best drummer fucking theve got the bollox

  • so fucking rite

  • This song brings out the most passionate guitar solos in Townshend.

  • My dad saw the who in Quadrophenia 1973 aside from saying it was one of the best concerts he ever saw he said when they did this song it was the most powerful song he has ever seen live from any band. I'm so jealous he got to see the who with keith and john in there prime RIP

  • man daltrey has so much soul in every song he sings especially the is one. fucking powerful

  • I wonder how sperm would react traveling up the fallopian tubes of a woman's on their to fertilization of the female egg while listening to Who's Quadrophenia & Who Are You for three days straight.

  • Lol, how did you think of that while listening to theis? haha

  • Eddie Vedder failed covering Love Reign O'er me ? I'd like to know why, because i'm listening and I can't figure how he failed. Personnaly, I love both version, but i'm still curious, and i'd like to know your opinion ...

  • hahaha. i like your comment. i reckon he'd be very eager to "blow" in his bit of life. Quadrophenia is reason enough and fair for living. listening to it over and over and over. cheers

  • i absolutely love them. :D

  • LISTEN to that voice. I think I'm in love.

Can you imagine how powerful this would be if the "rare" quality was even, like, nudged towards a "commercial" quality? WHOA!

  • Oh man... How'd you get that footage?!?!?!

  • They should have wrote a 2nd stanza into the song.

  • I agree, I feel the song is short lived, unlike most Who songs, which is depressing, because this song has the most soul behind it, and having it be longer could only make it be that much more enjoyable.

  • They're still the best.

  • ...epic... btw...can everyone stop arguing over who is best and just enjoy the rock n roll?? its not about who is better...its about the music.....artists today...and guitarists today...dont seem to understand that... nowadays with rock n roll its all about who can play a faster guitar solo....nevermind the fact that it sounds terrible...

  • Further clarification: Keith passed out on the very next song. After Moon's failed attempt to rejoin the band, Pete infamously asked the crowd: "Can anybody play drums?" He then repeated the question more forcefully, adding "I mean somebody good." As a result, Scoot Halpin played with The Who for a few minutes of what must have been pure rock heaven.

  • what was the point of bringing up Scott for just a few minutes, if that was the case? i thought he ended up playing for a while to continue the show? how long & what tunes did he play? anyone know? on the u-tube it looked like some jam thing they did & that was all, but that does not make sense..

  • naw, he did a bunch.

cant say which, but ive seen him in a number of videos. and eitherway... does it matter what the point was, i mean... congrats to him, man, lucky

  • yeah i read in wikipedia he died a few yrs back so young they also said he did 3 numbers at the show..

  • wow- a tour de force at the time they recorded this - Daltrey is amazing.

  • WOW!!! First time seeing this performed live by THE WHO from the actual 73 Quad tour. Keith did better than I would have expected. Awesome job by all in the band... It's performances like this that explain why THE WHO are still the worlds greatest live band...

  • what do yuo mean he did better than you expected he is easily a top 3 rock drummer of all time and he was still able to play at this time 73.

  • Keith was extremely talented. I generally rate him #1 of all time, and view Peart as probably the best "technical" drummer. Please don't bring Bonham, Starr, or any other drummer into this debate. That's not my point. During this time, Keith was often quite inebriated on stage to the extent of passing out on occasion. It is common to remark on Moon's individual performance on live recordings as influenced by his level of intoxication.
