great video! i have a 40s&w, and i heard the clip for the hi point 45 and 40 were identical, do you kno if thats correct? then i could us 1911 clips.....
Would it not make sense for Hi Point to make their .45 carbine to use 1911 mags?!? All they would need to do is to adjust the interior "reach" of the mag disconnect, to go in deeper at the correct position...why dont they do so?!? There should be no utility patent issues for the 1911 model, as it has been out for 100 years, and, many, many companies manufacture the exact 1911 model! It would be nice to use a HP .45 carbine with compatability with 1911 mags w/ a 1911 at the holster...
@Treblaine yes, it is true what you say about the mags generating some more revenue; however, more mags would be sold if they MADE and SOLD ALSO a 1911 mag that can be used in the .45 carbine AND in the 1911 INTERCHANGEABLY...they couls sell the old mags and 45. carbine, and, also sell the 19ll compatible(interchangeable) mags and 45 carbine! Dude, they would sell twicw as many .45 mags and carbine in this fashion, and, most importantly, additional tooling-up would be minimal!!!
If they made their weapons M1911 mag compatible, and made M1911 mags - and they could - then their hi-point pistol/carbine owners might still shop around and buy from Colt, Magpul or whoever.
Who knows. The next "generation" of Hi-Point .45 pistols *might* officially use M1911 magazines. It would be a big change.
You never know. It is still very unusual for pistols of different designs to use the same magazines. SIG P226 and Beretta 92 etc are similar but have incompatible mags.
I prefer the other guy's extended magazine video. No cutting, just stick a flat head in that slot and protect the mag with wood. Then just gently tap out a lip...like the real hi point mags. My 2 cents.
The answer to this should probably be obvious, but I've gotta ask: Would an 8-round 1911 magazine with the rubber or plastic base on it (such as a Chip McCormick) fit flush with the base of the JHP's magwell? Or would you still need to thumb it up in there to get it to click into place? If I can reduce the overall height of the JHP by getting rid of the goofy "battery pack" base on the stock mags, I could probably fit it into my Nanovault 200 for vehicle storage...
Thanks for the vid. I was wondering what mods were needed to fit 1911 mags in a High Point, now I'm going to buy 4 or 5 6 dollar mags and save some money. Have you ever thought about trying to mod a high capacity (10, 15, or even 30 rd) mags to fit a high point? Their main drawback is their low capacity mags, and if this were possible, it would be a boon to all of us HP enthusiasts.
I may of mentioned it before, but I'll say it again: Awesome work man! Straightforward enough to sway me to buying a .45 instead of another C9! With the smaller magazine, it makes it FAR easier to handle. The "battery pack" on the factory mags is just strange
I didn't cut anything though, I took a set of small electronic pliers and pulled up the metal slowly making a tab. it is rock steady (I don't like cutting mags-easier for the tab to be pushed back in)
Now my $6 mags are in my hi point and work great! a lot better than buying $19 hi point mags!
THIS MOD WORKS! AND colt mags are reliable as hell! I use my 45 for self defense.
I got a few questions 1)can you do that with the hi cap 1911 mags 2) on normal mags what can you add to the bottom of the mags so you don't have to shove your finger up in there like that, and 3) finally will that work for the carbine?
Awesome tip! I'll take a 1911 magazine over those crappy mags from Hi-Point with their weak springs and plastic bits that seem to be prone to failure ... plus the fact that 1911 mags are easier to find and cheaper (I usually see them for about $7 each VS $15 each for Hi-Point mags), and these look WAY better on the gun without that bulky, ugly plastic portion sticking out underneath. Any idea if this will also work with the high-capacity 1911 magazines? And what about the 9mm and .40 guns/mags?
@rhyno811 well in theory you can get 15 round 1911 round mags so i guess it would be a higher capacity mag then. Also it might be a cost saving feature.
Do you have any ideas for modifying a large capacity mag into a Hi Point 995. I would like to get 20 to 30 rounds in there if I can. I already have a 15 round Promag.
Yes they are the same. Just the 4 0has an insert to comp for a smaller round

Why would one do this? I don't understand. Doesn't the 1911 mag only hold 7 rounds?

@ETHEREALYOGA hi-point makes money off every hi-point magazine sold.
They don't make money off every M1911 mag sold.
Helps them make money in the long run with proprietary magazines.

Will the 1911 mags still work in a 1911? I want to do this for a carbine, and be able to share mags.

Will the magazine still work in a 1911 after the modification so you could interchange magazines between the Hi-Point .45 and a 1911?

If it does, then their .45 caliber carbine just got a lot more appealing...
