Interesting tripod the Gitzo; not only stable but, flexible as a acrobat for non-convential angles to shoot from. I suppose that would work with a video camera or shooting video mode with a dSLR.

Have you seen the beer bottle micro-mono pod, you plug or cork into a empty beer bottle ? It can hold your iphone, atleast on another table, if you want to be in the shot & fits in your pocket.

if you are on a budget and you are looking for Gitzo quality just google for a small german company called "berlebach". they have a shitty homepage, but they make incredibly good tripods made out of wood. Astronomers and surveing technicians can't be wrong. it's not as compact as the Gitzo, but after years i still love it.

I don't really see these tests as valid since you probably want to protect your camera when taking photos on a tripod, so while protecting the camera you are also protecting your tripod.

Or in other words on what tripod is your camera safest when hit by a football... expencive of cheapo tripod?

That was funny but honestly not very useful, it would have been better to compare those tripods by taking pictures in different places/weather conditions and compare the picture sharpness, because who is going to support a table or play soccer with it ?

And yes I have a cheap Velbon CX 728 bought used for 12$ and with my t2i it's working damn good, for people on a budget you really don't need to spend 200$ , if you take care of your stuff I'm pretty sure you can get exactly the same result.

On table, it shows how much weight it can carry especially for those who carry big lenses and heavy camera equipments. about gizmo turn on table, heavy items were located at the middle making it quite different though still heavy. at the end, it shows here that more expensive is better than cheaper but doesn't mean, cheaper is useless.

@MaKsPuA The thing is, though, these were pretty much out-of-box so wear and tear wasn't an issue. No, you wouldn't kick a soccer ball at it, but with how easily the cheap ones fell apart it's easy to see that they wouldn't survive a bump very well. Weak legs = poor support, and I wouldn't want to trust my camera with it.

I do have a $30 Targus and it holds up my DSLR just fine so I understand where you're coming from. That said, tripods aren't one of those things you want to be cheap with.

You cheated at 11:35. You have the skinniest legs extended when you are supposed to go from biggest to smallest for best stability. I've owned multiple cheap(er) tripods, and some are of quite good quality. You don't need a Gitzo to get you through the day, but I do see the point you are trying to make.

I guess my Gitzo is getting old, but it's taller, and lower than this, and still with just 3 segments ... G1324 MkII ... tested it using a 100-400 (@400) with a laser pointer mounted pointing to a wall 10m away (in picture), and then taking a picture at 1sec (Av). Picked the tripod that painted the smallest dot (least movement). Seemed like a 'good' test to me. (Did notice reduction by locking mirror, but very minor).
