the cause isn't always as important as the loss itself. I don't care what other people say about him, because I could look inside him past the drinking, past the drugs. He left this world way too soon. if all you can do is talk down about him then go away you don't deserve to listen to such greatness.
Sorry Glamourboy69, but Denny didn't "slip of (sic) his friend's boat". He was diving to retrieve items from the bottom of the slip where his boat ("Harmony") had been kept. The friend you refer to was Bill Oster and his boat wasn't "The Sloop John Be" it was called Emerald which was a 52 foot yawl. I apologize if this gets posted more than once. I accidentally deleted it and am having some trouble getting it to post again. Mea Culpa.

Truly a song that could fit into the same heading as " My Way " . It's a ' funeral ' song . Dennis must've thought that his time was almost up when he did this song .
Dennis wrote this song after a friend of his died. He wrote it, and then went into the studio to record it right away. So the feelings that inspired the song are still fresh, while he's singing the song.
It's said to be written for Billy Hinshe's dad. It's likely that Carl is singing background vocals, but is not credited due to the band's contract with CBS records at the time.
You are so right! It's a crime this album has not been re-issued. It's one of the most under-appreciated masterpieces of all time. Let's get some sort of petition going!
i think "every breath you take" by the police was played at his funeral. i'm not sure. I wished they played this one. one that he wrote himself. this whole cd is awesome. i paid 80 for it and wouldnt take anything for it. i love it. RIP Dennis
No it was'nt "every breath you take" that they played at his funeral though Dennis wife at the time (Shaun Love Wilson) wanted that song. They played "Farewell my friend".
stunning, beautiful song from a wonderful album. If only the copyright issues were resolved Pacific Ocean Blue could be re-released... let's hope it happens.
Pacific Ocean Blue great album. Can someone please post all of his songs on youtube this album is almost imposible to find and I would love to have at least video copys of the songs. If someone out there can I would apreciate it.
What a beautiful song! Brings tears to my eyes hearing Dennis,(who was my friend)sing that song..."Farewell My Friend"...You AND Carl are deeply missed and will NEVER be forgotten! tears,,,,
actually it was about Otto Hinsche, who was Carl's father-in-law, not Dennis's. Otto was the father of Annie, Carl's first wife, and of Billy (of Dino, Desi, and Billy, who was a long-time back-up musician and singer for the live BB and for Brian on his current tour).
i posted on this song last week but it's not been added sooo ..This song was written and dedicated to Dennis's father in law who he was very close to a great song as are all the songs are on pacific ocean blue
It's okay to drink.
Just don't go overboard.

I think Dennis gave the Beach Boys a certain legitimacy. He actually lived what they sang about. I wished he'd been more careful, I miss him.

I'm sobbing because my best friend is moving today, and I'll miss her so much! I just saw her for the last time in a long time.
RIP Dennis Wilson.

@CurlyHairChris Haha speaking of the ocean he was buried at sea and this song was played during the funeral. God rest his soul.

Dennis was probaby the most unreconized talent of the Beach boys
Goomonkey13 3 years ago 4
So the most unreckgonized talent was Billy Wilson the long lost brother. He played the recorder

I read that this was played at Dennis' funeral. I think Karen Lamm chose it for him.

This song was not played at Dennis's funeral.
She wanted it played , but had no say in his arrangements.
anseth 4 years ago
It seems that the song was given serious consideration by Karen, Audree and Shawn.
They all listened to the song together and ended up in tears which is where the matter was dropped.
