  • JUST MISSED!!! "This Is It" just missed making the Billboard's Top 10 chart; it peaked at No. 11 and spent a total of 23 weeks in the Top 100!!!

  • By the way Kenny Loggins turns 65 this month.

  • He looks like curt cobain if he was 45 lol

  • Everything about this performance is just great. Where did the video come from? It'd be great to see other parts of the show.

  • @zernker Most likely from the "Live from the Redwoods" DVD/album.

  • I love This is it, my 2nd favorite song ever, but just not this version it. He's adapted this version for his concerts. The western-y feel really strays far from the original track release and isn't as upbeat. I love the original simply because it's an upbeat fast song, that matches the backstory. (The fight to live) I don't know why he doesn't switch the versions around. I was thinking maybe he couldn't reach the high notes anymore. I don't possibly know.

  • thanks for adding, i've had the audio of this since '07 on my mp3, it's nice to finally see the video

  • His voice is so smooth, cant stop listening to this and heart to heart

  • he is the one!!!!!

  • I feel like I am shopping at K-Mart or sitting in a dentists office

  • @otasty lol its true, but the dude can sing

  • Absolutely one of the great rock of all time. Kenny's voice soars and urges you onward and upward to expand endlessly. Right on.

  • ケニー最高!!ぜひJAPANへ

  • YACHT ROCK!!!!

  • That's Chris Rodriguez singing back ups. He is amazing in his own right.

  • If i could pick a singing voice for myself it would be Kenny's Love what he does!!!!!!

  • Nice rendition of this song. Great background vocals.

  • Donny Hathaway was great. You get it!

  • There've been times in my life when true music touched my soul....salt of the earth and true

  • Hasn't been Chris been touring with Keith Urban for like forever?

  • My favorite Barbara Walters Special moment was when she interviewed Kenny at his home in the affluent hills of California. He was apparently recently divorced and pointed out to Barbara his ex wife's house which was larger and higher up in the hills than his luxury home. He did have a sense of humor!

  • Thanks for the joy you and your buddy Jim Messina brouhgt to my younger years back in the 70ies (Live On Stage Album), and the nice memories you've left in my mind.

I love your music sooooooo much

God bless you Kenny and Jimi

  • this song is so smooth and his vocals are so great kind of reminds me of you are the voice by john farnham, beautiful

  • he was no messina

  • he wrote that song for his dad who was sick with cancer and questioned whether he would survive and Kenny wrote him this song

  • Is that Sigourney Weaver playing rythm guitar and back up vocals?

  • @mykulc Close :-) It is Chris Rodriguez

  • all of them have really great perms.

  • This is a great live version of this song! This powerful!!!!

  • En 1979 esta canción fue galardonada como el TOP Nº1 del BILLBOARD. Kenny Loggins y su THIS IS IT... Excelente canción que significó una revolución de la balada romántica. Poco comercializada pero de una calidad sin discusión. A bailar muy pegaditos...a gozaaaarrrrrrrrr!!!!

  • God, that guitar lick is fantastic. Love this version.

  • brilliant man

  • Kenny is awesome

  • so good- Michael McDonalds is the best..but it´s Ok

  • great voice....luv to see in concert. Totally underrated, even today.

  • The man...

  • I love the music. The man is amazing!

  • Comment removed

  • There is no touching the original, but this on another level also - love great musicians

  • It is Sonny Landreth. Kenny Loggins introduces him earlier in the concert after Danny's Song.

  • Awesome!

  • Excellent Song, kenny the better

  • Great version of this Loggins classic! Does anybody know if that is Sonny Landreth playing slide guitar in this vid? His looks & playing style resemble Sonny. Just wondering... Glad this live version got posted. Thanks a bunch.

  • This is the best version i've heard of this song. Much better than the original version and with the electric guitar it's perfect

  • This real meaning of the song comes out in this version. It's about a man deciding if he should battle for his life. So I think sounds better this way. More dramatic than an 80's dance song.

  • Slde Guitar player is Sonny Landreth.

  • @hdog98 his father

  • This sucks....The original is funkier and alot better!!

  • I love the feeling he puts into this version of this song.

  • This song is a classic and he grows more into it through the years.

  • SO much better live than that original recording

  • kirk sings this song but now i know who really sings this song, WOW great job

  • Awesome vocals!!! Love the lyrics too. POWERFUL!!

  • dude, its just not the same without michael mcdonald. still good, but not the same at all.

  • Agree 100%! Needs Michael McDonalds' great voice to back this up,but still excellent!

  • @msstevie1951 totally agree

  • Dude! I grew up on this exact Live performance. I live 2 hours south of San Fransico & would always listen to this performance on Jack Keroacks road to "BIG SUR". It gives me shivers!

& I love this song because it's not about just love. It's about his father whohad cancer & wasn't doing anything about it. "This is it" is talking about how he need to take action! Soo AWESOME!

Thank you to cetera06 for posting my childhood in video form. I hope he plays again in the Santa Cruz mountains!

  • Great word picture, man, on Kerouac, Big Sur and this song!

  • Haha, thanks. I was just trying to think of the best way to explain it! I'm happy you understand where i'm coming from! :)

  • This Man had the best venues

  • Didn't he, though? I dig the clip of him at the Grand Canyon. I saw him with Michael McDonald in Irvine, CA in 2002. Mesmerizing talent.

  • I had this cd; thanks for posting this video.

  • I was looking for this video, thank you very much.

  • i dig the drummer obviously. who is he? i'd like to check him out, and see what else he's done.

  • I think I've seen him before but I'm not sure where!

  • @drumfoomaster The Drummer is Alvino Bennett

  • @Loggins01 nice on man. thanks. i'll have to check him out some more.

  • I loved the Redwood Forest as a child, but not Kenny. I have to say I have found a great appreciation for him and his lyrics/songs in my older age. This is absolutely beautiful!

  • Who is the slide guitar player, playing with Gibson ES175?

  • I believe it is Sonny Landreth.

  • Thank you!

    I'll check his site.

  • Micheal McDonlad at 2.40.. the Dobbies.. ??

  • He was at that show, so it could have been!

  • this is a beautiful song!!! muy bonita!

  • SONNY!

    He's a monster player!

    Nice.

  • Like the outdoor experience. This was probably a really cool concert.

  • Is that Sonny Landreth on slide?

  • Yes it is.

  • still HOT at 45! Kenny has a wonderful voice!

  • What Bass guitar he is playing ?

  • Kenny is actually 61.

  • well i know that, he was 45 or so when he did this though.

  • touche!!!

  • :) hahaha Iwish he was still 45!

  • EVERYONE should watch YACHT ROCK... Its amazing. (Its a parody) of the whole 70's music scene... But with reeespect, or not, lol...

  • i'm related to him (by marriage)

  • one of the purest unadulterated voices ever...the other is donny hathaway. but kennys voice is as pure as it was in 78 imo.

  • @charlesmax87 great rendition! though the duet with michael mcdonald was awesome, this one is pure and comes with a strong sense of soulful character. This one's the best for me. Great song and just pure talent in display. Cheers!

  • "You think that maybe it's over. . .not if you don't want it to be!" I'm gonna stand up and fight mutha's!!!

  • nice hairs bra! oohh yeaaahhhh

  • The smooth grooves make that log float like a yacht that's "Sailin' Away"!!! KICK ASS!

  • The Logg knows when to pile it on and when to shove it in the bank! I'd say this here demo was a piling! Fuck yeah!

  • This isn't a demo, this was his live interpretation of This is It.

  • has he plaeyd with Ringo's All-Starrs?

  • Thank you cetera06 for putting this great document on diplay her for every one to enjoy. I dont like KLs studio stuff too much but when it comes to performing live on stage he becomes one of the best. They were driving a lot of guitars these days, lol.

Was it recorded in Santa Cruz, CA?

  • I LOVE THE LOGG!

  • he's always so much more interesting live....

  • Wow, that's Sonny Landreth on slide guitar. He is the greatest slide guitarist! Excellent video

  • I love this song for what it represents. He was singing it to his father who was battling cancer.

  • Tried to find the other version of this song on karaoke disc.. but I really like this one too!

  • Can you believe this is the same song Kirk Franklin sampled? FUNNY I forgot who sung it!!

  • is that sonny landreth playing the slide guitar part

  • yeah it is good eye! Man I dig him better than Derek trucks.

  • Kenny please , pls , come and play to one of the best audiances in the world - us Irish .

  • But, hey! Don't forget the other best audience in the world, the good ol' U S of A.

    Kenny you rock!

  • this is song is so great. the first time i heard was in the waiting room at the chiropractor's office and it took me forever to finally find it. anyway, kenny loggins in amazing!!

  • I often wonder why KL's music, like Billy Joel's, was often so quickly relegated to muzak status. It's actually a pretty rockin song. It's about his dad's battle with some very serious ailment, I think.

  • isnt this michael mcdonald's song??

  • no and yes

its both of theirs, its a duet with michael and loggins. but loggins kinda upstaged him on the studio version.

  • no and yes

its both of theirs, its a duet with michael and loggins. but loggins kinda upstaged him on the studio version.

  • they both wrote the song

  • i like this.........it's different.....

  • PAYCHAR!!!!

  • Thank you....love his voice...lots of soul in it. great version...I don't usually like it when artists mess with a song that I've known and loved...but, he really pulls it off

  • This is the song he co-wrote with Michael McDonald to defeat Hall & Oates at the great back-alley songwriting contest of 1978.

  • LOL.

    That's smooth...

  • Sweet Jesus, that's smooth!

  • @funkmike Serious? that's a hell of a battle i thought it was for his dad..

  • Kenny Loggins rocks! :-)

  • Great Song, Great Concert - Outstanding talent on display here. Thanks Cetera. If you have anything else from Michael Macdonald, please post.

  • U have to really appreciate music to like this. I like the acoustics. I also love Kenny's mystical voice. The dude with the wedge is killin on the harmony with Kenny. His voice is beautiful also.

  • I prefer the original version they country'd down this version too much ..the song is more r&b sounding

  • they country'd it down the song is more r&b? I think you're confused dear

  • Are you kidding me?So much of Kenny Loggins music has R&B elements, especially his voice in general..sure he is mainly a pop/rock/adult contemporary artist..same can be said for Michael Mc Donald "I Keep Forgetting" Plus alot of the rock in the 80's had more groovy R&B elements

  • OK I understant... you meant the ORIGINAL song was r&b sounding. I agree.

  • yea the 80;s was groovy but not nearly as much as the 70's the 70's was the best decade of music in history!! lol

  • What is the name of the song he wrote and performed following his divorce? Sang it to his son..it was a great. I can't recal title of song?

  • The Real Thing, and was dedicated to his daughter. Regards!

  • @corvettecanada

    Danny's Song

  • @corvettecanada

    Danny's Song

  • the vocals are so perfect their scary...

  • This is it, a great song. This live version is a vintage.

    Thanks for posting it

  • Can anyone post the original studio recorded version of this great song, even if the video has Loggins lipsyncing? Thanks!

  • And now starring a young Bill Gates on harmonica!

  • Hey Kenny is dressed like Kurt Cobain!

    It was '93..

  • I love 90's Kenny, I wish he didn't cut his hair

  • I think Kenny looks hotter with his hair short. But that's just me.

  • I just like the Jesus look Kenny used to have XD

  • ahh Kenny doesnt look jewish with sheeps wool hair to me

  • one of the great songwriters of our time a great talent !!!!

  • Is that Sonny Landreth playing slide?

  • one of the greatest songs and songwriters ever.

  • He wrote this song when his father was going into the hospital for serious surgery. He thought about what his father was facing and wrote the song. Became one of his biggest hits!

  • That is a very good contribution my friend!!, once again, this man rocks and inspires! Best Regards!

  • I would love to see this clip, however, it starts and stops then after awhile it does nothing. Do you have any suggestions? Could this be my computer? I have experienced this with some others a few times only. I like both of these men ESPECIALLY McD!

  • I don't know what could be wrong my friend.

  • this is one of my all times favorite song ,but can anyone tell me what is the meaning behind the lyric ?

  • I can't believe this is the only version of this song on youtube it is a classic

  • He was just on Rachael Ray this morning, explaining the meanings of some of his songs. That's what prompted me to look up some of his songs. This guy has been making music since the early 70s. He has true staying power!

  • This is a BEAUTIFUL performance of this song...conveying his exact feelings he must have been experiencing in his life at this time...oh so powerful and TRUE!!! Thank You for sharing something so personal! Kenny you are the best! See you in about 3 months!

  • I saw him as an opening act for Hall @ Oates in Allentown, Pa. I always loved his music!!! Very talented musician!!

  • When you think you've heard it all, you stumble on some amazing reinvention. I like this mellow interpretation... This is one serious song!

  • I agree 100% with your words!!!!

  • Did he have to double up on his instruments because of the vastness of the stage and he needed to project more sound? Two pianos, two acoustic guitars, two electric guitars, two electric bass? Just curious?

  • Always think of the 1981 NCAA title game when I hear this song. It was what they were playing either in the intro, after, or both. Hoosiers 74, Syracuse 73 !!!!!

  • i love this song its just great!!!

    :D :D

  • Kenny Loggins is fierce and will always be fierce!!!!! This is real music just like all the other artists from this era.

  • fantastic singer/songwriter!!!!!!!!!

  • I love this song more than life itself, thank you for posting it.

  • Is there a video of the original version? Awesome song, always a favorite of mine.

  • This is a gem. Thanks so much for uploading this, many ppl cant appreciate Kenny Loggins, but I like his style. I have a challenge for you. Do you remember when Kenny performed Heart to Heart on Saturday Night Live with Eddie Murphy introducing him? Now if u had THAT! lol

  • It´s like birthday every time you put such a treasure like this on the web cetera06. I´m so thankful. This concert in the Redwoods must have been magnificient !!!
