Saw this band, early 70's, Providence Civic Center. I couldn't believe the show they put on. Everyone playing guitars at the end of the show. Drummer, (wearing silver shorts) leaps out over his kit on the riser, with guitar on, joins army of guitar players along front of stage. I was an impressionable young bassist. I wore OUT the "On your Feet or On Your Knees" album back then. Now I'm 53, and the band I'm in is gonna cover this song. Having a blast relearning it. I even get to sing it...!
Just saw the Oyster boys play this at their last concert of 2010, I'm glad this footage was posted. Makes one realize how much improv goes down, making every version unique and just how masterful Buck truly is but the Fresno show demonstrates why Castellanos is on the same stage. This may be the tastiest vintage of THE Cult ever.

I had the privilege of hearing the story behind this song from a guy who knew the folks involved...yeah it's a true story. Funny, I knew that before I met him.
In fairness to the singing guy, i'd rather be next to true BOC fans. It seems half the crowd at any concert is just VIP guests who don't even know who they're seeing, sit with their arms folded, and leave halfway through to beat traffic. I'd rather stand and scream the whole time like the good old days of arena rock.
I saw BOC in London (1979) and they did this..it was about 12 minutes long and it goes down as one the highlights of my live music experiences. I have seen loads of bands (including Hendrix, Clapton, Led Zep, Stones, Floyd etc) and the BOC gig in London is still in the top three gigs I have ever been to, great band...especially live.
my bad..that is Eric Bloom playing lead with Buck....20 years older but it is indeed him..the only 2 original members..i hope they come thru Columbus[OH] again soon....
one of the few bands in the world that are better live than studio..
.and i know after seeing 17 BOC performance..
they had a big following in central Ohio in the 70's and did lots of shows here..
. never seen this line up though...Eric Bloom was a great stage presence but this other guy with Buck playing lead is %&$*#ing terrific! "on your feet or on your kneess" IS the best live album ever recorded..if you like this, you will love OYFOOYK's!
As Mr Ajx, I agree with you 100%. They really rock!!! And yes, OYF is just amazing, even when the drums doesn't sound as they should in some songs, just Subhuman to mention one of many, is an incredible performance, so precise, that the timing is better than a studio recording !!! Hopefully they will remaster it as with other ones. That could be fantastic. Good comment n777 !!!!
The audio is now on my iPOD, THIS IS EXCELLENT, Buck is on par with Page, Clapton, et all. The dudes singing and talking in the crowd make me feel like I am there. I love the part where one says "She's leaving" and the other says "I feel so empty", we have all been there!!
I have been forwarding this video to nearly everybody on my mail list..... in spite of it being a little "ragged" because it is live and people are enjoying themselves at the expense of the video, everyone from forty and fifty-somethings right on into the twenty-somethings answers me back- "WOW- These guys are GOOD!" Let's see if they say the same about the pogoers when they hit sixty!!!!
Good audio Buck is in overdrive. Too bad about the Douche Bag screaming and trying to be clever. Hope its not one of your buddies. Thanks for the video.
I saw BOC 3 times in the '80's and all I can say is that they are only getting BETTER! DAMMMMMNNNNNN.... is that some great solo work or WHAT!!!! TAKE ME AWAY BUCCKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!
This is an astounding version of a great, great song. Live, the haunting quality of the studio version is lost, but after listening to these two incredible guitar solos, who cares? Buck still has it, and has always been one of the very best rock guitarists. Saw them Dec. 13, 2008 in Clifton Park, NY and they were fantastic.
If you haven't already, check out the version of this song on their 'long days night' DVD it blows all others out of the water, and thats saying something. It is nowhere to be seen on youtube although there is about 2-3 mins of one of the solos. Happy xmas + happy listening
My fave band also. Saw them first in early 80s, twice with the laser show.Thought they were great ever since. Only guitarist I've seen as good and rated as highly as Don Roeser is Gary Moore(aka GOD...haha)....and I've seen a fair few. Cheers....
But why is everyone hating on the guy singing? You cant tell me you dont go to a concert and sing along at all? Hey payed for a ticket so he can sing as much as he wants.
yeah, richie is really good, hes got 2 master degrees in music. But when allen lanier he took over on keyboards and guitar. Then they got the infamous rudy sarzo.
rudy sarzo can suck my fucking dick, he's the gayest person in history of bass guitar. I just saw them last night in Calgary, I didn't think it was possible to be gayer than elton john and more flamboyant than freddie mercury, but he put them to shame. He's a fucking schlep who hasn't written anything EVER.
I don't know why your comment has been rated so low. Anyone who's seen them recently would concur with you. That solo he does in Godzilla starts off promising enough, little bits of hits from every band he's been in, but after that he does the god damn simplest, worst solo ever. Compare that to Ritchie's BADASS solo that you can find somewhere on youtube, and judge for yourself. I respect Rudy for all the bands he's been in, but god damn. He plays bass notes through the songs. That's no bassist.
Bummer Mr. Karoke was standing next to the cameraman. Best BOC tune ever, glad I saw them 5 times, 4 in the heydays of the 70's before The Reaper and Godzilla crap, that was their turning point for me. The 1st 3 albums were the best by far.
well this guy payed a ticket and went to the concert and someone on the back was recording from a mobile or something not expecting a faggot like u who is sitting on the internet and think the world revolve around him
fuck you i bet your only saying this because it was problay you i posted that coment not knowing that some quife would critisise my every word talk about haveing no life!!!
anyone listen to moe.? cant help but notice how obviously influenced by buck's style chuck garvey is. and then theres the fact that theres the "buck zone" and "chuck side" at respective shows.
I should say I apologize for the crappyness of this vid...but it was done with a digital camera, and with all of these crazy fools in front of me waving their hands all around and junk...so, that's what happens.
hey... you deserve the Nobel Prize for capturing this! The video is awe inspiring and the BEST I have found so far of a live take on "Last Days of May" - Be PROUD of it! Your sound quality is off the hook compared with others I have seen, and the "Party Guy" IMHO only adds to the aura of the video!
It's depressing that a band as prolific as BOC is relegated to playing the "ribfest" in a podunk town like Kalamazoo.
