Has anyone ever turned up for a gig some many miles away from home, and the venue had no idea that A: you were coming, and B: there were any bands on that night at all?
I couldn't laugh at this. It all fucking true and that saddens me. We don't need them, they need us. Fucking promoters charge bands for tickets, and then make the band sell said tickets. And then the promoter gets the fucking money!!! They should do their fucking jobs and PROMOTE!!! I'm in Arizona. If anyone knows a state or country where this isn't the norm, fucking tell me, I'll move there tomorrow, lol!
Haha Im playing a gig where i have to sell 15 dollar tickets and i dont get to know the time i pay till we figure out how many tickets weve sold. im not gettin paid and i dont even get to play the big venue unless we sell 50 tickets
I've been apart of it. Almost every single fucking thing. I swear when I get mugged I will have gone through everything in this video. This isn't a comedy sketch. It's a goddamn documentary.
THIS is what being in a band is like. You won't get laid and you won't get wasted. You'll travel miles to play at a pub and you might get petrol money. Then if you're lucky, you'll have an uncomfortable night's sleep on some dude's floor and go home (that's if you didn't just drive straight back home anyway). THAT is rock and roll.
@Szaam I toured last summer,& you describe it decently well. Slept in the van. Sometimes got a house from a booker of a show,or a fan of the band. I don't think I showered the entire time. But what's funny is,it was easily the funnest month of my life.
lmao soo true with those asshole promoters promising you a good time slot/ crowed. also about saying there will be the same genre and then actually being all diff types of music. and not doing any promotion at all. haha this is great and so true!
Too true. I remember playing a gig years ago where my band were supposed to be the opening act supporting Mendeed in Glasgow. We were told we'd have a 25 minute set and that we didn't need to bring any equipment. As soon as we arrived, the promoter asked us where our equipment was. He then moved us upstairs to play and cut our set to 15 minutes. We managed 4 songs, all played twice as fast. To be fair though, the promoter gave us a gig a few months later which went a lot better.
HA! ;) And double-ha. Not to say that there aren't a few lovely promoters out there... emphasis on the FEW. But those few know who they are. I love you.

This sure sums it up. Our non musician friends think we can't get a gig because we never do anything but parties. We are tired of explaining this is why and that we refuse to do P2P BS
"you will be expected to lend them all your gear"... Just as we were leaving the rehearsal space, a guy walked up to me and said "Uh, I didn't bring my guitar, can I use yours?" I told him it was a bass. "I'll just tune it an octave higher, don't worry" W...T...F?

"I'll tell all the good clubs that your just okay, and keep the money low to discourage you until you quit calling me" "Your my wifes favorite band, and that really crushes my ego" Bono Saunders -Drummer/agent
Haha. This is so true. I'm an acoustic act but acoustic nights are very similar to this. They want you to be there 3 hours early, miles away, no local crowd and you have to bring 30 people....as an unknown solo act thats pretty impossible! The best part is you sometimes get paid some of the "door money" if you bring enough people, but all this means is that your taking money off your own friends and family!
There's a soundman? The sound gear is already there? They got BEER? Sounds better than what's being offered on the West Coast. I showed up for an unpaid "benefit" at one of the better clubs, to get bitched out by the promoter for not hauling along my own system and soundman. At another one, they didn't even buy us each a beer. Hell, not even a coke. This vid is sooooo true.
You'll be setting up your lighting system during the others bands sets. We expect you to rock hard, but don't exceed 92dB on the managers meter or he will cut the power to the stage. Oh yeah, the owners wife wants to sit in and sing Crazy, but only after her liquid courage kicks in.
