He was very self concious as we know and he could not bare the thought of being seen in public with patches all over him so he bleached his skin one colour its obvious. Read the book Magic and the Madness. The authour of the book (who was Michaels friend) said when neverland was raided the police found tubes of bleaching products.
A man does not go from black to completely white from a bit of patchy vitiligo.

We have never seen one picture or video of Michael with patches noticeable skin colour differences which is what the disease is. I believe he had it but only to a small and maybe noticeable effect so he dyed the skin all one colour due to the fact he is an entertainer, I would have done the same thing.

The "bleaching products" you refer to were prescription tubes of hydroquinone, only for treatment of vitiligo. Had splotches to the day he died..

Can you imagine being the most well-known person in the entire world and having this disease? Most people would just hide from the public. What Michael did was wear make-up to cover his vitiligo and he went "on with the show" to share all of his joy, magic and love with each and every one of us. This is only one of the many things about Michael that makes me love, respect and admire him even more. To me, he is my inspiration.

I am not sure, but I think it's because it compromises the production of melanin in your body. Melanin is the thing responsable for the color of the skin, for instance, and when you don't have it you go white. Albinos, for example, lack melanin.
it's a problem with the pigmentation in the skin.. thats why michael chose to bleach his skin as the same colour as the vitiligo... i've read about it, it had side effects like depression and mood disorder... :(

@Hi8380 It's progressive and yes they do. Randy wasn't a real close friend of Michael's either. When asked on Geraldo many years ago whether or not Michael had vitiligo - he couldn't answer.

We have never seen one picture or video of Michael with patches noticeable skin colour differences which is what the disease is. I believe he had it but only to a small and maybe noticeable effect so he dyed the skin all one colour due to the fact he is an entertainer, I would have done the same thing.

@Hi8380 - JRT was NEVER MJ's "friend". He was a reporter who interviewed him a few times & has only 1 picture he has ever shown of them together @ age 16 or so. MJ did NOT like his book & was unhappy w/it. JRT has gotten a lot of mileage out of that "friend" bit. IF he was a friend, how come he never did any interviews after the Encino days?? Above all, MJ never referred to him except for his displeasure @ the book nor did he ever call him friend. You have NO idea HOW his vitiligo progressed..

I'd also like to point out that none of you all lived with him or know the phases he went thru from '79 OFTW to early 90's, much less knew him. He covered up a lot and used makeup to cover splotches..first dark then lighter when it got too extensive. He had vitiligo universalis which does end up affecting most of the body w/smaller patches all over. The "bleaching products" you refer to were prescription tubes of hydroquinone, only for treatment of vitiligo. Had splotches to the day he died..

the media portrayed him as some crotch-grabbing freak who wanted to be white. That's not..true! Michael was the most sensitive, loving person anyone could ever know. He was a philanthropist who loved children. He focused on giving...rather than receiving. If only they knew the real Michael...and how wonderful he truly was, maybe they would have let him be. Can you imagine being the most well-known person in the entire world and having this disease? Most people would just hide from the public. What Michael did was wear make-up to cover his vitiligo and he went "on with the show" to share all of his joy, magic and love with each and every one of us. This is only one of the many things about Michael that makes me love, respect and admire him even more. To me, he is my inspiration.

My cousin has the same type he had, which is the severe Vitiligo.
He's the same color as Mike was when he died.
People at school said that he wanted to be white so bad that he went and bleached himself.
That is not true, Vitiligo is on my grandfathers side of the family, in fact my grandfather had a small amount of it on his chest.
Joe Jackson said that it is in his family and Latoya has it too.
She just doesn't have it as bad as Mike did.
I hate that he had to go thru this in the public eye.

His hair were attached in those places where had been lost in that accident. Concerning his skin it's obviously that he had vitiligo and the complete effect of white skin was its reason as also he helped himself to obtain homogenous colour through the permanent make-up. Likewise in an issue of spending too much money that caused the bankruptcy his face had changed under the influence of abuse of permanent make-up and skin disease and had ONLY those plastic operations that he had mentioned before

I am not sure, but I think it's because it compromises the production of melanin in your body. Melanin is the thing responsable for the color of the skin, for instance, and when you don't have it you go white. Albinos, for example, lack melanin.

it's a problem with the pigmentation in the skin.. thats why michael chose to bleach his skin as the same colour as the vitiligo... i've read about it, it had side effects like depression and mood disorder... :(
