  • I loved this then, I love it now. One of the best Muppet segments EVER. And so touching here.

  • How can somebody dislike this?

  • I first heard this song on The Muppets long time ago. This and the Banana Boat song are my favorite of Belafonte.

  • sweet -

  • omg at the end of the song he is sad and can hardly sing. :( (L) touching.

  • I want this sung at my funeral too. So touching

  • Graet Song! I wish the sound were louder so I could have heard what Harry had to say. Jim Henson was very talented Man. The guy who plays Big Bird is from my home state, Maine, and either Perry or Eastport! I forget which now. Harry Belafonte is a very talented singer/actor and a humanitarian. Why malign him? Just becaise you don't agree with everything he has done, doen't make him a bad person.

  • Thanks @elvissf422 for posting this!!! From Venezuela, greetings!!!

  • and what's wrong with supporting a great human being, white, black, yellow, green whatever......i am white, originally from vienna and i had the privilige to talk to mr. belafonte after a concert he gave in vienna.

  • i AM thinking as opposed to you. belafonte is one of the greatest humanitarians. that's what bonded him and jim. as for you, read matthew 5:3!!

  • The one dislike is from someone who couldn't stop crying.

  • This version sends shivers down my spine, but makes me hopeful for the future...

    Thank you Harry

Thank you, Jim... We miss you...

  • Happy birthday Jim

    Sadly missed....

  • I can barely write this, because of the tears in my eyes...

Jim Henson, thanks for painting our lifes with green.

Thanks for making our childhood beautiful.

    Thanks for making us smile.

    Thanks for your work.

  • Thanks for posting this...has really stirred up old memories. The Muppets and Jim Henson made such a huge impact in my life. So is Life !

  • Harry Belafonte turned the world around with this song..just as Jim Henson turned the world with the muppets...

  • I thought Henson demanded no one wear black at his funeral D=, why is the talky guy wearing it ;w;?

  • @Supermassively Oh, Jim was such a nice guy =).

  • @Supermassively

can you racist NEVER stop? henson was friends with harry, he wanted him there. that nobody should wear black is related to funerals in louisiana. the deceased does not want the friends to be sad. when the saints.....

    HOW STUPID ARE YOU????

  • @sonjainge69 Haha, you support Belafonte but call ME a racist. That's a riot. Nothing I said was even remotely racist, especially since I was denouncing a notorious one. Please think before you comment. Thanks.

  • @Supermassively

maybe you should read about mr. belafonte one day...

  • @sonjainge69 LOL! Pot, meet kettle. You clearly know nothing about his race baiting politics.

  • @Supermassively

He was a civil rights activist in the sixties. He shared his profits with Martin Luther King, who made little money. He used his wealth to finance freedom rides and help others.

He Is not a black supremecist just because he had a voice.

His "race baiting politics" are from the context of the 50's and 60's. Very different time.

  • this song is very beautiful i sing it to my little daghter and grandaghter.belafonte has the right voice for this song.

  • That , was , great . spreading love forever ...

  • best version of this song ever. Truly inspired.

  • Was the service at night?

  • @MrTornado300

The Memorial service was in the Morning at St. John the Divine in Manhattan. I was sitting in the audience as an Employee of the company and it was a beautiful memorial service.

  • Thank you so much for posting this

  • This was one of Jim's very favourite songs, and the Harry Belafonte episode of the Muppet Show was probably the best ever. I am so glad to see this on here.

  • Love is truly the savior of all things.......

  • This song celebrates a great life, though it was too short. Harry and Jim had the same love of life. Bless you for sharing this wonderful moment.

  • 25,000 views and not one dislike. Jim Henson's legacy is truly an amazing one

  • If you can watch this by yourself and not weep a little, we are not so alike. Belafonte's episode is one of the Muppet Show's very best.

  • jim henson was the leonardo of our time.and to have a song that was powrly song.this is a man that made it posssiple for you computer to geeks to know what we all know as Computer Animation. So in respectect to him we owe him more then this petetict song.

  • Because of the tolerance, acceptance, and love as a verb that Jim Henson advocated for children/adults of the world, THAT IS PRECISELY WHY evil people want to kill PBS. UNLESS we stop them!

  • god i couldnt imagine singing this upbeat song, after giving that eulogy. I'd be bawling my eyes out.

  • After seeing this I really hope the government doesn't cut PBS's funding.

  • finally I've been waiting for this!! It's so good and touching!! I wish I could've been there!!

  • Like 100% very touching

  • 0 people are stupid :)

  • To believe the guy can still sing so well at his age. Impressive.

I also like the fact that he sang such a lively song at a funereal. Such a lively tune.

  • @shom16200 I also read that no one among the mourners was allowed to wear black, at Jim Henson's request.

  • Harry Belafonte is an international natural treasure.

  • this song is so true, its just a pity jim wasnt able to see the words said about him.

  • Truly Amazing remarks from Mr Belafonte!

  • Let all of us learn to find greatness in difference.

  • Amazing. Amazing video.

Timeless and sitll moving after all these years.

  • "I believe in taking a positive attitude toward the world. My hope still is to leave the world a little bit better than when I got here."

    Jim Henson

    1936-1990, Muppets Creator

  • This should be the anthem for the world.

  • FINALLY this is online!!! Thank you so much for posting this, I could type 1000 words for 1000 years 1000 times a day and I still couldn't come up with the words to describe the stunning combination of Jim's genius, Belafonte's talent and the power that the two created when they came together. No wonder this was one of Jim's favorite songs.

  • @cainster it's mine to well of the muppets together with peter seller's Sigarettes and Whiskey

  • I don't think I'll be able to watch the Muppet Show version anymore without tearing up.

  • @BuckWilliams17

    None of us can...

Every time I hear muppets with Jim's voice I bless him a little.

My idol muppeteer... who voiced and created my favorite muppets. He didn't deserve to die, but he is remembered, and will never be forgotten.

  • listen the text!!!! its so true....

  • So beautiful and touching.

  • amazing thanks for posting
