Back in the 1960's it was common practice to release a single version and an lp version of songs.Yes, the flip side, single version of "Hold On" rocks out much better than the album version. Often the single version might be faster. One of my favorite single vs lp cuts is the original single version of " Penny Lane" with the horn at the end.Took me years to find that. And also Guess Who's "No Time".
Yes, as far as I'm concerned, this is THE version to have...the other "Hold On soundtrack version" is lnot nearly as dynamic and seems to these ears to be an outtake (including a vocal flub!) Thanks for posting!!!
@gilliansl i was able to have this in jr high 1985-1987 or so, I was able to find a copy of this easy years later. you can now get the record off ebay.
I love this! This is the version they play on XM on the 60s channel. At Busch Gardens last year Peter Noone (Herman) invited my 3 yr old granddaughter to the stage and sang this to her. She was holding a pink inflatable guitar!!
HEY EVERYBODY!!!!! This is the HIT version, the original mix! I played this on the air the first time around, The "Doowacka-doo" chorus is what "sold" the record. Some clod at MGM has been foisting off the "Hold On" sound track version for years. This original version is as scarce as hens teeth, as they say. LOL
Now that, I don't know!! Oh I'm writing from another channel. I didn;t know I could even do that. Come try my other channel, fanprograms and you'll see what my record loving hobby turned into as an adult! (lol)
Wow! I can't believe it! I've been telling everyone about this version for years, with the boys saying something like,"Doo wacka doo" at the end of the chorus. People told me I was nuts, but I knew I was right because I LOVED this song! Thanks for posting.

@pcsbeat what vocal flub? on this version or the other version also on here
"HERMAN'S HERMITS-"LEANING ON THE LAMP POST" ( W / LYRICS) " THAT VERSION IS DIFFERENT!!!
MichaelHansenFUN 1 month ago
@MichaelHansenFUN at about 1:43 (on the more widely release album version)..he doesnt sing "she", instead slurring the word....
for me the version here is the definitive/superior version...
there are more backing vocals and "herman's" syncopation is much better.
That album version sounds like an unfinished/undubbed outtake!

Great Formby song and lovingly covered. Which this was the audio for the weird movie clip - that's hysterical. Thanks for posting. This is a gem.
