Let me tell you as a former Toronto resident for the majority of my life (35 years) and having moved to Kelowna B.C. one of the things I miss most about Toronto is the T.T.C. I guess it's all relative but I promise you it was much more dependable and reliable then then mess they call "Transit Service" here!
@MaximumRD Fair enough. I can't comment on Kelowna's transit system, but don't doubt it's terrible. But things look even more grim for the TTC. There will be a 10% fare increase and a number of cuts to busy routes. The 25 bus, for example. Always jam packed at Pape station. And that's one of the routes they've chosen to cut! While at the same time increasing fares by 10%! Brutal.
@RoulinBrooks In all honesty my memory of the TTC only applies up to about 8 years ago, I guess things have gone down since then. As someone who does not drive I had always found I could pretty much get anywhere in Toronto at about any time, if I was unsure I would call and get the best schedule and route, never had much complaint my whole life up until I left. Sure there are bad TTC drivers but there were some great ones to that actually gave a damn. I dread having to rely on our transit here.

Waiting for the finch bus, 3 NON EXPRESS busses, which are inservice, and are only half full pass by me, the third is stopped by a red light, but refuses to open his door. I come up and tell the driver there is PLENTY of space in the back, he opens the door, tells me to suck my father's cock, and closes the door in my face.

I was like that person who made this video but try a few places in Canada such as where i live now in Sydney N.S. the TTC is awesome compared too small town Canada, Here there is no transit on Sundays, after 5 PM everyday, no Holiday runs including long weekends. they run once an hour and if there is a bus broken down you wait another 2 hours, also the buses usually don't run on the hour every hour ,like the glace bay run there is no bus at 7 or 9 PM. enjoy the TTC der b'ye eh.
@cindyns1 Very good point. Public transit should be a priority in EVERY community. We're told that we should be environmentally conscious and that our dependence on fossil fuels is destroying the planet (which it is). But what alternatives do people living in, say, Sydney have? None. I still maintain that the TTC is in many ways terrible. But I would completely agree with you that it's better than nothing.
@cindyns1 actually the sad reality is transit systems are better all over the world. In seattle its 40c for a student and for an adult its like 1.25. The reason we pay so much for toronto transit is because they are unionized. In no other transit system do drivers make 80k.For example 1 in about 17 employees made 100k or more in addition to high pay, they are late, rude and etc. Now if this dosent get you angry guess what. they are publicly funded. Your taxes are going to these guys.wut losers
Haha it's really not that bad, perhaps a little too crowded at rush hour. But the trains are almost as regular as London, and more regular than New York. It looks a little tired and drab but at least it's cleaner than New York also.

For example, last week at Broadview station I waited about 15 minutes for a 100 bus to come in. It finally did and everyone loaded on. JAM PACKED with people. It sat and sat and sat. For at least 20 minutes. In the meantime another 100 pulled in. And left. Empty. AND THEN ANOTHER 100 arrived and left empty. And we just sat. No excuse.

It's also true that the federal government has done absolutely nothing to support the TTC unlike countries like Spain. I've said it before. Toronto and Madrid are about the same size. Toronto has 69 subway stations and Madrid has more than 300. Because the Spanish federal government supports Madrid transit. Our federal government never will.

@mcdocbrown11 God you're dense. 1) Talking about degrees is a waste. 90% of university degrees are useless save medical degrees to be a doctor/nurse, or a lawyer. That means fuck all. 2) It's cheaper to pay someone overtime than it is to hire another driver. That would mean giving them health benefits, a pension etc as well. 3) TTC union pay is actually lower across the board than most other public systems. Learn something. 4) You pay $3 and have slow service because the TTC has no funding.

People are encouraged to be environmentally friendly and use public transit, but then we're stuck with badly run systems that screw us over. Let's hope that things change for both Winnipeg *and* Toronto (don't count on it, though).

Part of the problem I think is that the federal government doesn't give the TTC a dime, whereas in most countries the federal government helps with public transit in the large cities. And another piss-off: what happens in the weeks before the TTC jacks up the fares? They hoard their tokens! They increase the cost AND won't let the riders buy tokens. A double slap in the face. They do it *every* time.
Maybe the delay was caused by another asshole like you breaking the doors on the train by running at the last second and holding them open. Broken doors=train can't move, did you know that? Or maybe somebody was drunk and passed out. When other people see you pass out, they don't know what's wrong, they push the yellow strip and *presto*, a delay.
@colombobogota I've been on the Tokyo metro at rush hour. Shinjunku station no less. You're right--it's an experience. But this is apples and oranges. All subway systems have crazy rush hours. My problem with the Toronto transit system is the endless delays, breakdowns, ongoing problems and just how generally horribly managed it is.
TTC is pretty brutal - but at least you are there in off-peak times. When there is gap of 6 minutes between trains during peak times (when according to schedule there should never be more than 3 minutees between trains) more and more people keep crowding onto the platform and my anxiety levels startto max out. Check out the subway system in Dehi, India. They are more modern than us and they still have people living with dirt-floor houses. Transit City will be a disaster. World-class city indeed.
15mins? Try waiting for 30-45 during rush hour just outside of the downtown core. I wait for the 63 Eglinton bus at Eglinton west station sometimes even for 1.5hours between 4-5pm all in the while I see 7-12 #32 eastbound buses swing by in less then 30mins. There is a lack of proper management on many of their routes.
I'm so glad I'm getting my driver license so I will never set foot upon the worst transit system in history ever again! No more waiting for hours. No more crowded buses. No more rude bus drivers. It takes 40 minutes to go to school by bus, but taking the cars takes 10 minutes. TTC = Take the Car!

I know they think TTC is great but wait till you ride it daily. I remember being on the Yonge line and it took 45 minutes from Finch to St Clair. I also remember being in St. Patrick station and being stuck there for 30 mins and this happened in the same week. I can't wait till I'm done school I would be off to the 905 corridor.

There's this dude who always gets on the train and he smells. Badly. I remember i had to walk through the train doors (an offense in NYC) to the front of the train. He followed. I saw many times the bus was pulled over to the second lane slowly and left and inside was not crowded at all. However I bus and subway to and from school and never have problems except a couple bad occasions with employees. I hate the TTC because of THEIR lack of road-sharing consideration, their refusal to pick up old ladies in the coldest of winters ( e.g an express bus just drives by her stop, at 7 pm), their constant streetcar-damaging road repairs, their buses that break down and stay down ( think this is a scam!)

I'm a computer science student working at TTC headquarters on my co-op term. It is my 4th term so I have had worked in other companies before and never in my life have I seen so much dead weight in an office environment. It took over a year for the development team to implement simple solutions in a unix enviornment, nobody works and sits around most of the time. End of my first day, I saw a janitor take off his janitorial uniform only to wear a suit underneath and drive off in a bmw...lol

I completely agree with you, I can't stand those asshole bus drivers that take off before the bus is even full especially on elderly people. I can't stand how dirty and run down the stations and vehicles are, I hate the fact that I sometimes literally have to teleport to the other side of the door when I reach my subway station because they only wait a millisecond before they close the door again and now they want to charge an extra 25 cents? Everything you've said is true. And not only is there a big increase, but how about not allowing people to buy tokens? It used to be when they raised fares they'd restrict you to 10 tokens. This time they restricted you to 5 and then NONE. You have to buy tickets instead. Increasing the fare for crap service is bad enough, but not selling tokens just adds insult to injury. Typical TTC.
I've ridden the NYC subway lots of times and find it good. Of course, I don't ride it on a regular basis so I'm sure it's got its problems, too. I'd be surprised if it was worse than Toronto's subway system. I'd be surprised if there was a subway system on the planet that was worse than Toronto's.
lol not even. I live in Montreal and i've taken the TTC before a few times and the NYC subway many times and even though they both resemble in some way, the NYC subway system is waaay more better than the TTC.
I've been on Tokyo's (better than Toronto), London's (better than Toronto--they had indicators of when the next train was arriving more than 20 years ago; Toronto just got that this year, and only in a handful of stations), Paris (better than Toronto), New York (better than Toronto), Munich (better than Toronto), Madrid (MUCH better than Toronto), Seoul (better than Toronto), Hong Kong (better than Toronto), Milan (better than Toronto) . . . . . . .
In every case the trains run more consistently. Madrid and Toronto have roughly the same population. Toronto has 69 subway stations, Madrid has more than 300. Look at Broadview station. Renovations that should have taken about a year took more than three. And less than a year after completion the bus platform staircase to the subway level has been shut because of water damage. Badly designed and poorly constructed. That's the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the TTC.
And let's be fair. You're a subway enthusiast and that's great. I am too! I've got more than dozen subway books and framed subway maps (Chicago, Toronto, London, Sao Paulo, Munich) in my basement TV room. But you live in Bolton and don't take the TTC on a daily basis. Anyone forced to endure the subway delays and inconsistent bus service on a daily basis can tell you that the TTC is vastly inferior compared to other cities' transit systems.
(sorry for the long reply) I think the TTC might not be the best (I probably exaggerated there) but it most definitely isn't the worst. I would say the Montreal Metro absolutely sucks. I feel your pain my friend. TTC is the bowels of transit systems. I have had to wait 45 minute to catch a subway on a quite Sunday afternoon, how does that work?
45 minutes waiting for a subway is INSANE. But no surprise really. The whole system is screwed. There's a rotten wooden board in the floor at Pape Station that's been there for more than five years. They were supposed to renovate Pape station, but that's been postponed indefinitely. Every year the TTC gets worse and worse. It kills me the people who commented on this video saying "The TTC is great, man!"
And then there's the garbage piling up everywhere, but that's another story.
Translink in Vancouver is just as bad if not worse. Never, EVER have the authority that manages transit also manage roads. Transit is so shortchanged here.

Waiting for the finch bus, 3 NON EXPRESS busses, which are inservice, and are only half full pass by me, the third is stopped by a red light, but refuses to open his door. I come up and tell the driver there is PLENTY of space in the back, he opens the door, tells me to suck my father's cock, and closes the door in my face.

I was like that person who made this video but try a few places in Canada such as where i live now in Sydney N.S. the TTC is awesome compared too small town Canada, Here there is no transit on Sundays, after 5 PM everyday, no Holiday runs including long weekends. they run once an hour and if there is a bus broken down you wait another 2 hours, also the buses usually don't run on the hour every hour ,like the glace bay run there is no bus at 7 or 9 PM. enjoy the TTC der b'ye eh.

We're told that we should be environmentally conscious and that our dependence on fossil fuels is destroying the planet (which it is). But what alternatives do people living in, say, Sydney have? None. I still maintain that the TTC is in many ways terrible. But I would completely agree with you that it's better than nothing.

@cindyns1 actually the sad reality is transit systems are better all over the world. In seattle its 40c for a student and for an adult its like 1.25. The reason we pay so much for toronto transit is because they are unionized. In no other transit system do drivers make 80k.For example 1 in about 17 employees made 100k or more in addition to high pay, they are late, rude and etc. Now if this dosent get you angry guess what. they are publicly funded. Your taxes are going to these guys.wut losers

@mcdocbrown11 I think that the focus here is too much on people's salaries and not enough on just the general incompetence of the entire TTC system. For example, last week at Broadview station I waited about 15 minutes for a 100 bus to come in. It finally did and everyone loaded on. JAM PACKED with people. It sat and sat and sat. For at least 20 minutes. In the meantime another 100 pulled in. And left. Empty. AND THEN ANOTHER 100 arrived and left empty. And we just sat. No excuse.

Customer satisfaction is at an all time low and people are fed up to the teeth with greedy, do nothing unions that hold the city hostage on a whim. It's also true that the federal government has done absolutely nothing to support the TTC unlike countries like Spain. I've said it before. Toronto and Madrid are about the same size. Toronto has 69 subway stations and Madrid has more than 300. Because the Spanish federal government supports Madrid transit. Our federal government never will.

@mcdocbrown11 God you're dense. 1) Talking about degrees is a waste. 90% of university degrees are useless save medical degrees to be a doctor/nurse, or a lawyer. That means fuck all. 2) It's cheaper to pay someone overtime than it is to hire another driver. That would mean giving them health benefits, a pension etc as well. 3) TTC union pay is actually lower across the board than most other public systems. Learn something. 4) You pay $3 and have slow service because the TTC has no funding.

Part of the problem I think is that the federal government doesn't give the TTC a dime, whereas in most countries the federal government helps with public transit in the large cities. And another piss-off: what happens in the weeks before the TTC jacks up the fares? They hoard their tokens! They increase the cost AND won't let the riders buy tokens. A double slap in the face. They do it *every* time.

Maybe the delay was caused by another asshole like you breaking the doors on the train by running at the last second and holding them open. Broken doors=train can't move, did you know that? Or maybe somebody was drunk and passed out. When other people see you pass out, they don't know what's wrong, they push the yellow strip and *presto*, a delay.

My problem with the Toronto transit system is the endless delays, breakdowns, ongoing problems and just how generally horribly managed it is.

TTC is pretty brutal - but at least you are there in off-peak times. When there is gap of 6 minutes between trains during peak times (when according to schedule there should never be more than 3 minutees between trains) more and more people keep crowding onto the platform and my anxiety levels startto max out. Check out the subway system in Dehi, India. They are more modern than us and they still have people living with dirt-floor houses. Transit City will be a disaster. World-class city indeed.

15mins? Try waiting for 30-45 during rush hour just outside of the downtown core. I wait for the 63 Eglinton bus at Eglinton west station sometimes even for 1.5hours between 4-5pm all in the while I see 7-12 #32 eastbound buses swing by in less then 30mins. There is a lack of proper management on many of their routes.

I'm so glad I'm getting my driver license so I will never set foot upon the worst transit system in history ever again! No more waiting for hours. No more crowded buses. No more rude bus drivers. It takes 40 minutes to go to school by bus, but taking the cars takes 10 minutes. TTC = Take the Car!

I know they think TTC is great but wait till you ride it daily. I remember being on the Yonge line and it took 45 minutes from Finch to St Clair. I also remember being in St. Patrick station and being stuck there for 30 mins and this happened in the same week. I can't wait till I'm done school I would be off to the 905 corridor.

There's this dude who always gets on the train and he smells. Badly. I remember i had to walk through the train doors (an offense in NYC) to the front of the train. He followed. Didnt speak proper english, either. Some of the stations are run down, almost. Some stations spring leaks like crazy. There's always a delay, somewhere. Annoyin

Yes, TTC go to Hell! Bus drivers are rude and unreasonable. I have too many problems with those f...king bus drivers. I saw many times the bus was pulled over to the second lane slowly and left and inside was not crowded at all. What I really hate and wish that f.....king idiot go to hell and suffer in there until the end of time was in one busy morning when I ran to catch that bus and it just let me waited outside for about 20 seconds. ttc worse for employees being jerks I understand your frustration and i can understand it to a certain level and how your 45 minute wait sucks i know . But thats what we've ended up with, whoever built the subway here didnt know what they were doing. However I bus and subway to and from school and never have problems except a couple bad occasions with employees. Bottom line i agree with your point but if you hate it try taking some other transport to make you happier with getting from A to B

Yeah, but that's just it. For me (and hundreds of thousands of others in Toronto) there is no alternative. I wouldn't use a car enough to warrant buying one. And it's not like there's a public transit alternative to the TTC. Like George's Transit Company with frequent bus service. It's the TTC or nothing. And the TTC knows that.

I'm standing on Pape and four number 25 buses go by back to back to back to back. And then you'll wait 45 minutes for the next number 25. The public caused that? oh another thing I must complain about, the ttc treat ppl more like nuisances than anything else and I'm sick and tired of hearing grouchy zombie sounding subway drivers over the intercom pissing on my day. ..but i wish more of TTC riders would complain!. Public transport IS required by those born without silver spoons in their mouths! The poor MUST be taken care of by the wealthy!!. All I liked about riding the TTC, as I remember, were the pretty girls. All I notice about most of the surface drivers: uncouth, unpleasant, public-haters. now i even saw one with bluetooth earpiece and I was told of a local hooker working a driver while he got paid on our time!. Toronto deserves better!

WOW! what hatred! I am NOT a TTC Rider; how would I ever get anywhere in time? But, the way the City and especially the arrogant TTC Chairman goes about, one would think everyone loves the TTC. I hate the TTC because of THEIR lack of road-sharing consideration, their refusal to pick up old ladies in the coldest of winters ( e.g an express bus just drives by her stop, at 7 pm), their constant streetcar-damaging road repairs, their buses that break down and stay down ( think this is a scam!)

I'm a computer science student working at TTC headquarters on my co-op term. It is my 4th term so I have had worked in other companies before and never in my life have I seen so much dead weight in an office environment. It took over a year for the development team to implement simple solutions in a unix enviornment, nobody works and sits around most of the time. End of my first day, I saw a janitor take off his janitorial uniform only to wear a suit underneath and drive off in a bmw...lol

I completely agree with you, I can't stand those asshole bus drivers that take off before the bus is even full especially on elderly people. I can't stand how dirty and run down the stations and vehicles are, I hate the fact that I sometimes literally have to teleport to the other side of the door when I reach my subway station because they only wait a millisecond before they close the door again and now they want to charge an extra 25 cents? This is bullshit!

Everything you've said is true. And not only is there a big increase, but how about not allowing people to buy tokens? It used to be when they raised fares they'd restrict you to 10 tokens. This time they restricted you to 5 and then NONE. You have to buy tickets instead. Increasing the fare for crap service is bad enough, but not selling tokens just adds insult to injury. Typical TTC.

I've ridden the NYC subway lots of times and find it good. Of course, I don't ride it on a regular basis so I'm sure it's got its problems, too. I'd be surprised if it was worse than Toronto's subway system. I'd be surprised if there was a subway system on the planet that was worse than Toronto's.

In every case the trains run more consistently. Madrid and Toronto have roughly the same population. Toronto has 69 subway stations, Madrid has more than 300. Look at Broadview station. Renovations that should have taken about a year took more than three. And less than a year after completion the bus platform staircase to the subway level has been shut because of water damage. Badly designed and poorly constructed. That's the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the TTC.

And let's be fair. You're a subway enthusiast and that's great. I am too! I've got more than dozen subway books and framed subway maps (Chicago, Toronto, London, Sao Paulo, Munich) in my basement TV room. But you live in Bolton and don't take the TTC on a daily basis. Anyone forced to endure the subway delays and inconsistent bus service on a daily basis can tell you that the TTC is vastly inferior compared to other cities' transit systems.

45 minutes waiting for a subway is INSANE. But no surprise really. The whole system is screwed. There's a rotten wooden board in the floor at Pape Station that's been there for more than five years. They were supposed to renovate Pape station, but that's been postponed indefinitely. Every year the TTC gets worse and worse. It kills me the people who commented on this video saying "The TTC is great, man!"
And then there's the garbage piling up everywhere, but that's another story.
