Even though this is a cartoon, the physics of Elastigirl's stretchiness are more realistic than those in Fantastic Four, Sky High, or pretty much any other superhero movie
nah i had nightmares of fucking a bitch in a trailer walking out side to the car seeing my aunt come out of knowere chainsawing my dads arm off yea i think im the only one who has dreams like that
She Is A Thirteen year old girl in a plane thats going to get hit by 3 mistiles her mom is shouting 'PUT A FORCE FEILD AROUND US NOW!' Shes Is Being Tossed around the plane and trying to make a forcefeild and some of you people call her a pussy ? Wtf is wrong with you i bet if you were in a situation like that and ur mom was shouting some orders at you you would be in ur seat ith ur seatbelt fastend and covering your ears so dont bother calling some one a pussy when u are one ur self >:I
@110CheekyChick Yes, we know. That was actually called back later in the film. Her mother actually agreed that it WAS way too much pressure, but that's exactly why you don't go along on a random superhero trip if you're 13 years old. Even if you DO have powers, you're suddenly stuck in a life-or-death situation.
Fun fact: The actress made it a point to actually learn the meaning of the jargon so that she could correctly understand what she was saying and the emotional impact of the terms. Also so that she might not piss off any airline pilots watching the film.
I absolutely love this scene in the movie. The voice acting is amazing and the entire scene is something you almost wouldn't expect in a children's movie, though Disney Pixar does amazing stuff. I really love it!
As much as I love the deleted scene that was initially this scene only done differently, in where Helen asks a pilot friend of her's to take her to find her husband, where he is ultimately killed in the explosion, I am very glad they chose this scene to make it into their final cut. Helen is such a great character, and I love seeing her in charge and at her most vunerable. This whole scene is just executed perfectly--way to go Pixar! :D
@B5girl2342 She's a pussyyh. She used her powers when she was fighting with her brother but now when the plane is about to crash ''i thought we weren't supposed to use our power'' strong chick logic. Hopefully she didn't reproduce
@ronald010ify = =; she had a talk with her mom about it If u even pay attention to the movie. she then lightened up. THATS when she started using her powers right. Dude cut her some slack will you. or ur just plain jealous of a character to just call her a pussy. Everyone clearly who thinks she not a pussy is right. she was nervous. like all teens. Seriously.
@ronald010ify You've gotta be kidding me, she's just being a normal teen. When I was Violet's age I was involved in a car accident where the car rolled, and the fear you experience in a situation like that is enough to paralyze you, so in that regard I think she was pretty brave. She DID try to make a field around the plane TWICE and take it to mind that Helen forbade them to use their powers all their life, so she never learned how to control it...
@ronald010ify ....And she protected her brother AFTER the plane incident, AFTER her mom told her and her brother that they need to use their powers to stay alive and AFTER she spent nearly all night practicing her forcefield on the campfire to avoid the enemy seeing any smoke signals...I'm so tired of people telling other how weak they are and I absolutely HATE people that judge others like that (FYI people like that nearly ruined my life.)
@HoboJoe696969 They didn't take them off. They were putting them on but then Helen starting flying all super crazy to avoid the missiles before they could fasten the seatbelts.
Holly Hunter has such great intensity in this scene, her voice performance completely sucked me in. The Incredibles is such a fantastic movie and the action sequences are just amazing. Should a sequel ever come along, Brad Bird should definitely direct it as he did for this one.
I remember watching this in theaters...it was dead silent when this part was on, everyone was so captivated. No-one broke out of their trance until Helen said: "I'll tell you what we're not gonna do, we're not gonna panic, we're not gonna - - LOOK OUT!" because everyone started laughing (how can you not at that part?)
@zeldafreak701 If you look close, the button's labelled "Chaff Manual". Chaff is a countermeasure used in air fights. From Wiki: Modern armed forces use chaff to distract radar-guided missiles from their targets. Most military aircraft and warships have chaff dispensing systems for self-defense. An intercontinental ballistic missile may release in its midcourse phase several independent warheads, a large number of decoys, and chaff.
@Stigmatainmypants I think it helps that she was an interesting character AND she had skills other than stretching. Mind you, so does Mr. Fantastic, but he's a HUGE dick.
I LOVE this scene! It builds and builds, she's following protocol, until she finally becomes desperate. "THERE ARE CHILDREN ON BOARD!" Even Mirage's eyes lit up.
@uraniumgrenade she was still developing her power, even though she had the capability... it was through this experience that she learned to utilize it more fully (on-demand).
You cut off the end, when they're falling through the air screaming, their mother unconscious, then to drop into the water slowly and then to suddenly duck as the plane come crashing down on top of them. It NEEDS the end to make it whole.
Those kids were SO lucky that being an expert pilot was on her resume. That said, the fact that the voice actress actually knew what she was saying helped this scene ....incredibly. Badum-cha!
@bongo46 Wow you think I don't know that? Damn, hey guys, Mr. Dumbfuck here thinks its cool to point everything that is obvious out to us in a form of hate-mail. Let's give him a round of applause!
@bongo46 Not to pile on, but it being a cartoon based on an alternate reality isn't an excuse to have completely unbelievable physics. The scene was so tense, and the voice acting so good, but what the jet was just stupid, I felt like it nearly ruined it.
@04014913 - Her "buddy-spiked" mayday is US Air Force code, as a warning not to fire, given to an aircraft who has radar lock on a friendly - in this case, Helen was referring to the missiles she thought were fired by friendlies.
@hoss3732 Mayday is not a Us Air force code! "It is used to signal a life-threatening emergency primarily by mariners and aviators but in some countries local organisations such as police forces, firefighters, and transportation organizations may also use the term. The call is always given three times in a row ("Mayday Mayday Mayday") to prevent mistaking it for some similar-sounding phrase under noisy conditions, and to distinguish an actual Mayday call from a message about a Mayday"
I know you posted this comment a year ago but I just wanted to thank you for commenting about the Iron Giant reference in this scene of the Incredibles movie. I never would have found it, much less even knew it existed if you hadn't mentioned it here. I was hoping it would be the giant flying past the plane but, the use of phrase India Gulf Niner Niner--aka IG99--release date of the iron giant is still pretty awesome. ;D Thanks again!
Today I realize that every single Pixar movie has lots of easter eggs, usually referencing their other titles, but most of them are really difficulty to catch.
There's a wikipedia article called "List of Pixar film references" regarding this, interesting reading for those who are curious enough for the least. :)
I have to agree with Hoss3732. Not only did it lend an air of authenticity to the scene, but completely cemented the notion that these were professional heros, not just some twits in spandex. This film, and Wall*E are probably my favourite Pixar flicks.
So Syndrome recognized it as a government plane because Helen was using military code rather than civilian code. For people who understood the code, I'm sure it was a spoiler of what would happen.
@Floymin More likely due to the callsign she was using - in-universe, IG-callsigns could be military, as opposed to, say, G-ABCD (I'm British, so I'll use a UK private callsign as an example).
*Violet*! Mayday, mayday, India-Golf-Niner-Niner is buddy spiked! Abort, abort, there are children aboard, say again, there are children aboard this plane!
Agreed. I've been scouting around different blogs... some of which commented about the "incorrect" use of Angels terminology.
However, it's obvious she is trained as a *military* pilot;as this is a C21 or similar...
Didn't realise that BLIND GUARD would be 121.5 VHF or possibly 634 UHF? What is the military distress frequency anyway? Or is BLIND GUARD used to refer to UNICOM?
Agreed. "Angels" is used as the US Military designation for altitude. Civilian craft use "flight level" for altitudes above the transition zone (18,000 ft ASL in North America, varys elsewhere). Flight level (FL) is essentially the altitude above sea level divided by 100. So FL350 is 35,000 ft ASL. Below transition, altitudes are called out as "one-six thousand" for example for an altitude of 16,000 ft ASL.
Blind guard usually refers to a distress call when radio contact has'nt been made
In the director's commentary from the DVD, Brad Bird relates how Holly Hunter insisted on knowing what all the aviation lingo meant before recording the voice track for this scene. She really nails it with her intensity on this one. Bird says he wanted a real nail biter with this segment, he got one .Best scene in the film, IMO.
