Personally I think it is worth the price. However if you are flexible with your budget I would go for the 5.1 Surround Sound version, cooler dock, better sounding headset.
@VeryBestReviewer Hi.. please reply. what headset would you recommend?.. this or the logitech wireless g930?... i really can't decide wich one to buy..
Not with a regular HDMI cable. But Xbox have HDMI AV adapter that uses the standard AV cable but it's actually HDMI, making the Headset compatible with HDMI,but not with a regular HDMI cable.
@VeryBestReviewer i found other way you can if you have headphone output in your TV you just have to buy jack cable 3.5 mm that one can go in your docking station and your TV it works as wel
You won't hear outside noise, unless someone is shouting near you, but any mic would pick that up. You should be fine if people are talking, your teammates should not hear them.
Well, as I agree that the Astro's are a better headset, they are a LOT more expensive than the Chimaera's. Also, I personally did not waste my money as I was given them to review however I would not say that potential buyers would be wasting their money as for a Headset that isn't surround sound it beats a lot of its competitors. - MANiK
Dunno what the debate is about but lets say u just so happen to lose your detatchable mic...now u need to put out money to get it. I dont see why anyone would even wanna take it off. Sweet headset tho.
My review states that the Mic is not detachable, so you will never encounter the problem of losing the mic. It is just that some people think the Mic gets the way. Personally I have never had a problem with the Mic on any headsets I have used. - MANiK
Good review, But i have some questions...1. im 14 and have a bit of a small head, some reviews of the chimaera that i have seen say that the headset itself its is a bit big, so i was wondering if this would be a problem for me? also being as it is close to Christmas I was wondering whether to ask for some money towards the 5.1 version or does it not really matter the differences between the studio and and 5.1 versions. lastly I have never had a good gaming headset, are these good for begginers?
@harrysollis yeah any surround sound head set will be good for beginers. You should get the extra money for 5.1 or wait for the Tiamat to come out because studio headsets can be bought for way cheaper. For the head thing i think you will be alright.
Okay. I have contacted Razer as it has been a very long time since they said they sent out the 5.1's for me to review and actually receiving them, of which I am yet too. So just in case they do not arrive for me to make a review the difference in look of the headset is no different. The 5.1's are surround sound (5 simulated areas of sound rather than 2 which non-surround sound headsets have). The 5.1's are a better sounding headset. However they will set you back $129.99. - MANiK
They are not surround sound so you will not experience directional footsteps etc that you would with surround sound. However the quality of the sound given by the Studio's allows for 'the next best thing'. However, they do sound great when playing fps, especially COD, Battlefield and Halo. - MANiK
Yes, but there is a major issue. If you take the headset out with you to use purely as headphones then every 5-8 minutes (It never really had a set time) the headset would turn off as it turns on to wait for a responding signal from the Dock, but obviously you are away from the dock and the headset won't recognize that you are listening to an mp3 player and switch off to save power. It takes less than 2 seconds to switch back on again but is annoying. MANiK
Are these worth it i want something thats good for netflix and FPS shooters, i am currently thinking about this headset Or the x31's or Px21 sence i have all systems but not to crazy about ps3
These truly are great headphones and I have reviewed many (if my computer will stop playing up I could upload them!). I think this is a great starter headset for anyone on a budget and not fussed about Surround Sound. I have used them with both Netflix and FPS's and was very satisfied with the headset. - MANiK
The left cup controls gameplay sound, sound that you would usually hear through your television and the right cup volume controls the chat/mic volume. - MANiK
Hey, I just have one Question, can you tell me how much mAh the stock battareies have in the 5.1 and also the stereo/2.0? That would be very interesting.
Over the ear's. The padding around the cup is ventilated but at the same time keeps sound in so your ears do not get too hot and uncomfortable yet you get all the sound not people next to you. - MANiK
You are entitled to your opinion. I have tried the 'recommended' competitors, both the Turtle Beach X31 and Plantronics X95, and I thought that the Chimaera sounded better than both. I also think the Chimaera is the best looking headset at the moment, again, my opinion, others may and probably do disagree. I mean hey, this is what these reviews are for, they may not please everyone. I do my best. Recommend me some others and I will try and get a hold of them and review! - MANiK
@VeryBestReviewer You missed what i meant. The Chimaeras are gaming headphones but you recommended them as audio headphones. . . thats like me reviewing a FPS game but recommending it as a TPS. . . it that makes sense. But can you understand what im trying to say?
Turtle Beach X31 and Plantronics X95 are both gaming headsets, not audio headphones.
That said though, it was a great first review with alot of detail. it was just recommending gaming headphones as audio headphones was abit off.
Ah Yes, I see what you mean now. I guess you're right, I should have really said that if you were buying this headset for gaming it works very well WITH audio, rather than recommending them purely for audio. Thanks!
I understand that with Xbox 360, there will be a wire going from the controller to the headset, but what about the PC? Is it completely wireless for the PC?
Also, if possible, can you please explain how one would go about connecting it to the PC? I mean what wires would go where etc. Thanks much!
I can explain, but to make it easier, check out Razer's website. At the bottom right there will be the Razer Chimaera's. Click on it and choose the Razer Chimaera Stereo (not 5.1's). Then click on F&Q and go onto the Razer Chimaera mini-site. Then click 'Setup' and option '2.1 How do i set up the Razer Chimaera with my Xbox 360 or PC?'. This will show you how to set it up. I am in the process of doing a Setup video though.
I have posted a website in my description showing you how to change your broadband router. If you are not allowed to do it and you cant switch to the wired connection, then i suggest keeping the transmitter as far away as possible from the Xbox. If you cant do any of these then you will experience interference problems. I am in the process of reviewing the new Chimaera 5.1's and i have found that the interference problem has completely gone due to the upgraded 5.8Ghz transmitter.
If you just wanted to use the headset for the mic, you can buy a cheap 2.5mm female to 3.5mm male adapter (ebay/amazon) which the 2.5mm cable it comes with will go from the headset to the back of the PC. Or if you get a hold of two 3.5mm to 3.5mm cables, you can simply plug 1 into the mic out, and audio of the dock, then connect the other two ends to the min in, audio out of the PC to use the headset to its fullest (i wish Razer provided us with such cables- sadly they don't)
What do you mean you can't use hdmi? i don't understand that, Also is it 100% wireless on PC if you have the cables connected to the computer and the Dock? Thanks for the review
@GeneralKeako You have to use RCA cables to connect the docking station to your soundcard or motherboard. If neither of those have RCA inputs, and they probably don’t, you’ll have to search for a 3.5mm to RCA adapter cable that may or may not have come with your mobo or soundcard, or head to your local electronics store and buy one (they’re just a couple bucks/pounds). OR you can just get a hold of 2 3.5mm cables, again not provided :( but they are cheap on ebay/amazon. But it is fully wireless
@GeneralKeako For the HDMI issue, it states on razerz that you can buy a HDMI audio adapter which will provide you with HDMI. However i dont know why they can't just provide you with one, so unless you are really attached to HDMI, i think the experience you get from this headset will outweight the sacfrice. If you still want to use HDMI i would avoid buying straight from Razer, go to ebay/amazon first for cheap. The newer 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound version has solved this issue however.
I want to buy one. Shall I? Is it worth the price? :)

@lastresort6913 They Razer Chimaera has two versions...
1) Chimaera = Stereo version = $129.99
2) Chimaera 5.1 = 5.1 Surround Sound = $199.99
The one reviewed on the video is the Stereo version.
