I think it is ok to do it. the beijingers and chinese are welcoming the lao wai. of course as long as it is not for some restricted purpose. it should be ok to do it in china. but of course you have to ask permit nicely. dont ever let the chinese guard loose face. they should just say ok... :)

actually, we had to tell the guard that we would only do it for a short time, cause he didn't like it. But there are places where it's okay (sort of). I've never heard of permits in Beijing as well.

dear lifematters, your words in god´s ear (as the german say), but the countryside is everywhere in China. Come to Shanghai and you will see a real farmer-village :-D. It´s not the farmers that suck (their life is hard enough) it is the new chinese middleclass that is terrible.

If you sing a chinese song, you will provoke and overload, a crash of the very basic operating system (DOS 1.0) in their brains causing to deny that you even sing/sang (sing-sang *g*) in chinese, because rule 4 of the 5-point strong book of chinese prejud...eh...solid knowledge (approved by CCTV) of "THE foreigners" says: 4. THE foreigner cannot speak Chinese.

haha! Good point! I must say that there was quite a crowd a some point but it was too noisy as they talked so I actually edited these out. And yes, the police DID come but we told them that it was only for an 30 experiment, so they let me do it.

It was really interesting tho, one lady stopped and asked why I was doing it, if I had money problems. hehe!

I'm learning Chinese song now and I'll try with that next time to see their reaction! hehe

Hi, John here. I don't know how hard it can be to find people to teach guitar to. Never tried. One thing for sure, being vegetarian in China is not easy, unless you could for yourself!

I think vegetarians eat well in China, because there is so much vegetables there. Unless your talking about already made vegetarian food, then I'm not sure. But if you teach English in China, some schools will pay you a lot of money for it.
