  • Love to you all. Love Layne, love Cantrell and Duvall is ok.

  • i so have meaning into all his songs...thank you for this and whale n wasp up. i have to say even insturmental says so much...wished there was a video. but im glad we got the music bank to know a lot of songs most dont know.

  • Another one I heard for the first time. Fuck Yah!!!

  • If Layne & Mike aren't in the band, it's NOT Alice In Chains!!! Why did Jerry still call the band Alice In Chains when Layne and Mike aren't in the band? How dumb if you ask me!

  • @ILOVEJIMMYMcCULLOCH1 if know the real history of AIC, Layne was the LAST one in join the band, he refused at first when he was asked. Jerry,Sean and Mike tricked him lol. Mike was kicked out from the band. I haven't never ever see a band that stand up with one of it's member like AIC did with Layne. in mainstream rock any band could kick out Layne and look for a singer without or less problems. And after his dead they still tribute him.they have a right to continue grow up

  • no layne only half chains jerry is the shit too show some

  • NO LAYNE,,,,NO CHAINS!!!!

  • @bflyseattle amen

  • Now that's what I call some ROCK AND FUCKIN' ROLL! I still love that grunge shit! AIC got a new joint comin' out in '12, can't wait to hear it and I hope Jerry keeps the "tradition" by keepin' it hard and dark, no pun intended....

  • Jerry blows donkey dicks!!! layne was aic you got that right!!! rip brother

  • No Layne=No Chains!

  • @cmarx222 And no JC = No Chains! They needed each other.

  • EVERYONE SHUT THE FUCK UP AND LISTEN TO THIS SONG.

  • GREAT SONG! not rare though

  • Ignorance is bliss.

I play guitar and own all of their songbooks. ALL, with the exception of 4 or 5, were written by Jerry - MUSIC AND LYRICS. Lane was the voice, not the mind, behind the band.

For someone who calls themself Amber In Chains, you need to get your facts straight. I dont't want to be too mean to a fellow fan but seriously, lay off the pipe or put the needle down.

I always say that Lane had the best voice for his genre (Cornell's is great too)

  • @werdy18 Who's Lane? Do you mean Layne?

  • @AliceInChains19 Oops. Layne is what I meant. You are right. Like you didn't know who I meant.......ya nerd. But I am right in that he hardly wrote any songs... Jerry was the brains and LaYne was the voice. One of the best voices I ever heard though. And it harmonized with JCs incredibly.

  • @werdy18 actually Layne wrote a lot of AIC songs, Jerry was not the brains of AIC either, Jerry did however make the sound but the "Alice in Chains" idea (the brains) came from Layne

  • @ericallencurtis123 correct he also named the band but jerry did help...i dont like sticking up for jerry. considering replacing layne and keeping the name but he did help and he did make some songs. esp the clean songs..

  • @rayannchick true.. Jerry was a "hit song" writer, It's just so arrogant to hire a new guy to replace Layne, but only let him sing 4 songs. Jerry has a huge ego. The new album was like a Jerry Cantrell solo album. The new guy is actually pretty good, but jesus let him sing!!

  • Layne wrote the lyrics. I swear people shouldnt be allowed to post comments on YouTube.

  • @AmberInChains72 This.

  • Well most of these posts are so off the mark it is unreal. Hey here is an idea, and this is to you pfoltz10 especially, YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE HELL YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. Seriously posting should be disabled here because there are some MORONS (BNSFmow I am talking to you) here. Do me a favor, go listen to Justin Bieber. Some of you are a disgrace to real Alice in Chains fans. Idiots.

  • Layne and Jerry was an alliance that made perfection, they created something uniqe together, something niether of them would have done on their own. It is´nt strange that Jerry felt frustrated when Layne gave in for the drugs when he wanted to create more music. Laynes death though, probobly touched him more than any of us, no matter if what he wrote was for his solo album or AIC! And yoy know what? I don´t think Layne minded att all, and i still don´t think he minds. /x user

  • Haha Who cares, Jerry is lame and his solo career sure took off huh. Now look how low AIC has to play shitty casino venues.

  • @BNSFmow IDIOT

  • @JamesMarini01

i'm probably gonna move to Canada...tired of all these fucks here haha.

  • ... I could climb until I reach where angels reside

Ask around to find out where the junkies applied ...

    ... bad ass verse!!. ...

  • wishes most the bands i love werent dead and gone.

  • @AppleSunbee33

Um they aren't....they just fuckin released a new album.

  • @dragon53777 yea, notice i said...."MOST OF THE BANDS I LOVE....Not, ALL the Bands I LOVE??!!?? fuck, dude, i hate knowit alls like yrself.

  • You should change the description. Because this song was written lyrically by Layne.

  • DIED...!!!!!!!!!

  • Jerry contrell is not nor will ever be Alice n chain's he wrote some of the songs as did the whole band so for the people who have no clue shut the fuck up.

  • @666Angelfuck jerry has actually written every riff, every single solo. layne just contributed with 40% of the lyrics. i hate all of you, underestimating the rest of the fucking band. they are great, and i wont let you all say that layne was everything. he was a great singer and a great person, but dont go further. and please note that he died 8 years ago, i cant believe you all are still full of sorrow. open your simple minds you fascists!!

  • @Ohmium and i am deeply satisfied with the reunion of the band, have you seen any of their new live performances? they are healthy and excited at each concert; that improves the result so much. they all had been junkies until layne died, so the concerts werent pretty good. it was like nirvana. perhaps you disrespect them now because that makes you more interesting, isnt it?

  • @Ohmium open your simple minds you fascist????????????????? ok dickhead the only brain washed fascist is you,,and Jerry suck dick like all his poser fans like you,he is a self embellished self centered ego maniac that takes all the credit from a dead man,and you be leave everything you watch on your mtv and read in you teen bob magazines because your a poser.

  • @666Angelfuck

First learn to spell before you attack anyone and anything. Douchette.

  • @dragon53777 what are you fucking Einstein now? wow you noticed my spelling who give a fuck? i bet you got street smarts of a 6 year old? not to mention other issues in humanity you probably are to retarded to comprehend like most people so go fuck yourself.

  • @Ohmium Layne was the soul of the band..Sean and Mike also play a huge part, but the truth is Jerry cannot and should not carry on AIC without Layne. They both have to be there for it to be the real thing.

  • @MrTufflong best comment here!

  • Alice in Chains without Layne is like Guns N' Roses without Slash. Doesn't work for me.

  • I always ask myself why bands don't put singles like this out there before it's too late. This song could have been one of their tops. Layne's vocals blow me away in this song.

  • I wouldnt mind it if I never heard Jerrys voice.

  • @XembeshX I wouldnt mind if you died in a fire you fucking moron

  • I dont like the sound of his voice at all let alone try to be front man. He sucks

  • Why can no one understand that Layne is dead and now that he's gone things will be different without him. When Napolean was exiled, France fell to shit. When Caesar was murdered, Rome fell into disarray. Layne is DEAD and you can't expect things to be the same. Accept what you cannot change.

  • I cant talk shit about any of these guys and why the fuck would I yeah we have opinions but some are just fucking worthless "compairing Jerry's music to Nickleback" jesus fuck whats next I now understand the useless fucking world i live in these days no one gives a fuck about the whole picture they just pic what they like and trash the rest

  • Rare my ass.

  • does anyone know if this song is about Demri Parrot?

  • @sandraelaine75

Yeah, I think it is. He said after she died, he knew he wouldn't be able to get sober.

  • @spawned7 Wow ; how sad! Thanks and if you know any more rare info about layne or Demri let me know! Thanks!

  • :( He was so talented.. Alice in Chains just isn't the same without Layne. Rest in peace man.

  • Yeah Layne was definitely a better singer, but don't talk shit on Jerry. Jerry wrote half the songs and sang in half them as well as doing most if not all the wicked guitar riffs and solos.

  • false layne wrote this song

  • @darklight385 Yeah... kind of. Jerry wrote the music, and Layne wrote the lyrics.

  • Jerry didn't have a career without Layne ! ! He 's good but ,never will chains b the same . Layne reached out 2 him but Jerry was so obsess with his on well being that he didn't see the signs of a good friend reaching out 2 him ! ! ! who the fuc.. couldn't see that ? !

  • @wlcarden WOW SO GLAD YOU KNOW ALL. FUCKING FUCKING MORONIC IDIOT

  • Good lord ...listen to that guitar tone. HUGE!!!!

  • Just shut up and listen to the music

  • Don't blame Jerry because Layne couldn't keep the friggin' needle out of his arm,,,puh'lease !! (rolling eyes)

  • layne is one of the great losses of our time

  • if he was your neighbor you would have a different opinion on that.

  • @paviglianti Ha, probably

  • I love ppls names on here.....hear are a couple......LAynesAngryChair........KurtinChains.....and my fav LaynesAddiction.....keep em coming ppl these are tight

  • This song smacks death around like a rag doll:

"Still you leave me rotting on this rock all alone

It's my fault for knowing not what I should have known....you died"

Jerry and the Chains are sermonic raconteurs

  • This guitar in this is ROCKIN!

  • Just listen to that voice...AMAZING! ONE OF A KIND!

  • @Niggerbutcher100

its not just mindlessly saying he does drugs

alot of really amazing songs are about drugs a key 1 is master of puppets by metallica

none of laynes lyrics were bout oh ya i do drugs alot of it comes from frustration from people who dont get its an addiction and all his songs are just written very well

btw i dont do drugs i just the lyrics are class

  • @Niggerbutcher100

    no its not

    thats shit like "gangsta" rap

layne used great lyrics to describe it

and alot of the lyrics in other songs written by layne were negative like in a mad seasons song wake up

  • @Niggerbutcher100

junkhead has the best lyrics for drugs ive ever heard

  • @frostyholycross if u used it means so much more.....when he says ooooohhhhhh and it ain't so baaaaaadd......its fucking crazy unexplainible unless you been there....but thats cool that u get it.......

  • but everyone that's saying jerry wrote the music is being obvious. Of course he did layne's job was to write the lyrics and he did that. Layne wasn't nearly as good at guitar as jerry was. I like layne's lyrical style more than jerry's, also you can't say jerry gets most of the credit.

  • Jerry deserves most of the credit hes the most talented muscian in the band. He also has a amazing voice and he and play guitar good as hell and hes the main song writer.

  • I must say i miss Layne very much and i don't listen new AIC stuff, but you know what, Jerry was at least 50% of the band,he wrote most of music and lyrics and i like his first solo album very much. The only thing i hate about Jerry is Metallica lol. Layne was a soul of the band and it will never be the same.

    @doghunter100

I heard of that interview, but that journalist (some chick from Argentina) wrote it for her book to make money out of his death, and no one can confirm that statement.

  • I understand and respect that, but they're live show is better than it's ever been! If thats worth anything?

  • sure i wouldn't mind watch them alive if they come here(Serbia) Thanks :)

  • the last few years before he died in a press interview layne said dont try to contact ALC members ( about my well being pretty much), they are not my friends

  • I wish we could stop all the blaming and the slagging -- Jerry, Layne were awesome - sadly layne is gone - but Jerry is still around - c'mon, let's support this guy who has brought all this beautiful music. Look, AIC, will never be AIC, without Layne, but at least we can still hear Jerry's music through Duval. I was anti this project - but fuck it, we'd all do the same - i'd rather hear AIC through Jerry than some covers band.

  • i reckon that jerry cantrell should have taken over lead singing duties, whether he kept his guitar on as rhythm or lead would be up to him.

  • I thought Layne wrote this because of his girlfriend dying earlier.

I love the riff, and the sadness of Layne, thanks for the upload.

  • Jerry Cantrell kicks ass, AiC kicks ass, the new AiC album kicks ass, too. And to quote Tool, "I sold out long before you ever even heard my name / I sold my soul to make a record, dip shit, then you bought one"

  • this has gotta be about laynes lost love demri,i really think her death is what finally broke him.i hope youre at peace brother, rock on everyone and thanx for this upload

  • jest zajebiste!!! layne rules forever!!!

  • Man, Layne and Jerry together!!! -- what a horrible waste. And I think the second part of Mad Season at the Moore has been taken down - probably been bought out -- shame.

  • Layne and Jerry were definitely a different mixture of talent. They both brought some great music to this world which I personally can't get sick of, and I get sick of those 90's band quickly.

  • Why are some of you bashing Jerry. They both contributed greatly to AIC, but Jerry didn't go off and die on us. Say what you want, the new AIC is pretty good. It's not the same without Layne, of course.

  • jerry fucked up his own solo career, then trades back on aic...i just think its disrespectful

  • yup.

  • Comment removed

  • AIC stayed a band the whole time. they were still a band thru jerry's solo stuff. and they had been playing together even after layne's death. william's band opened for them at a show and they became friends.

it's not like jerry put out an add for a new singer to save his music career.

i saw an interveiw talking about the progression, it happened over time, with plenty of discussions about respect for layne.

  • For all the comments you've written bashing jerry and praising layne, you don't seem to have all the facts. ProperlyStained is right,(that's the interveiw i saw too.)

To question jerry's respect for layne?, really?? are you the only layne staley fan who hasn't seen all the shows, watched the interveiws or heard all the music that jerry has dedicated to him?

And i'm sorry, mad season didn't do any better than anything of jerry's as far as "fucking up" a side venture.

I loved the solo, MS, AIC!

  • @BNSFmow I think you are just stupid, he made solos albums while Layne wasn't able to sing and write anymore, he didn't trade back on aic then, try not to be such an idiot please.

  • @BNSFmow jerry kept going on with AiC to do it for layne

  • @BNSFmow

    Nope .

Jerry was AIC dude. He wrote all but 4 songs they did and he wrote the music too.

They RESPECTFULLY quit for a while after the irreplaceable Layne Staley died.

    Get a clue

  • @werdy18 Jerry was not AIC. They were all AIC. JUST SHUT UP AND ENJOY THE MUSIC.

  • @AmberInChains72 You go girl makes my heart smlie to know some real fan's still rock it out. So many fucks out there that ant got a clue.

  • @BNSFmow

Who says that Jerry fucked up his solo career? It was Sean's idea to reform in the first place, not Jerry's.

  • @BNSFmow absolutely .. Should have changed names and moved on as another band .. No Layne, NO AIC.. Period.

  • @BNSFmow its Jerry Cantrell he can do wtf he wants, btw he's the shit so shut ur fuckin mouth ya prick. If u dnt like jerry then why are u spamming on this vid?

  • @BNSFmow neck up fuck bag, you don't know shiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!

  • this song is fucking badass

  • Layne and Jerry, the voices of AIC.Layne had an unmatchable sound,Jerry did his part just as well.

  • AiC would've never been the same without layne, both mikes or sean either. it's not only jerry. we get this awesome sound because of ALL of them. but that doesn't mean that jerry can be an outselling asshole all the time.

but whatever, neither of us have lived with jerry and layne, therefore... each to their own. i hold my stance, you hold yours.

  • yea mike has awesome bass skills, he is underrated as well as sean. he is a great drummer. but remember, yes it would never be the same without layne, but jerry made the harmonizations, so it could have been awesome with some other with a distinct voice. not like laynes, but different and nobody else has one like it. you know?

  • i know what you mean. but yeah, it's all a point of view thing. them as a whole was awesome. but i am sure that without layne, i wouldn't love this band so much.

  • @pfoltz10 It wouldn't have been similar without Layne, that's kind of a stupid thing to say.

The people who are always saying, "But Jerry wrote all the music!" are kind of dumb and also incorrect at that - Layne wrote or helped write melodies to a good amount of their songs, wrote lyrics, and was very much responsible for a lot of their imagery. Those things were especially true later on. The self-titled album wouldn't have been half as great as it is had it not been for Layne's input.

  • How is Jerry a outselling asshole? He seems like a good guy.

  • when has jerry ever sold out?

  • @pfoltz10 I respect Jerry, he's written some of my favorite songs. But the fact that he had the balls to say, after their self-titled album, that he wanted a less "dark" sound and more of a pop sound and that he wanted to become the main vocalist instead of Layne is what really killed AIC. I doubt that was encouraging to a drug addicted Layne, either.

I'd never want to hear "She's the shit, y'all" on an Alice in Chains album.

  • @runnersdialzero33 i like boggy depot and LOVE "leave me alone" from the cable guy soundtrack. after that, he started to develop this nasty nickelback sound. layne did write some music for them and even more lyrics. it's not true when people say jerry IS alice in chains, the combo of jerry and layne made it so special. you see what you get when jerry's in charge of pseudo in chains, eh? i deeply respect him as the guitarist and singer/songwriter for the real AiC, just like layne.

  • @ARMS0is0still0here i really agree with you on that... its like lennon and mcartney they made the beatles stellar, both were cool solo but it wasnt the beatles.... and lennon is def the layne in that situation haha... did u see the layne lennon cover? AWESOME SHIT!!!! its hard to runnersdialzero, thats selling out and music gets raped by our slavery to the dollar every day man it really sucks... its the battle for art to live or greed and rich exec schmucks to prosper

  • @runnersdialzero33 did jerry really say that he wanted to become the lead singer? :O layne should have slapped him in the face!

  • @lilaluft MORON

  • @AmberInChains72 whoops, i think you should have addressed that silly ___ (i suppose it was meant to be an insult) to yourself. why repeat the same thing OVER AND OVER again to other people? very original, troll.

btw, i'm a huge fan of Jerry so stfu :D

  • @lilaluft fuck off tard

  • @AmberInChains72 wow, you really are a sad fuck.

  • @runnersdialzero33 jerry is a fag

  • @runnersdialzero33 . Check your facts. I read the same interview with Jerry and it was AFTER Layne died. He was not sure if Alice would keep going. At the time he didnt feel right have a new singer and thought maybe it would be better if he just took over all vocals.

  • @runnersdialzero33 "your decision" is a perfect example of that. I hate the new aic.......i figure jerry just took control of the fact that layne was now dead and couldn't stand in his way of his idea's....

  • @F1patXD RETARD

  • @runnersdialzero33 Source or link to this? Not that I doubt you personally, I would just like to see this verified and the context in which it appeared to make my own judgment. Thanks.

  • @runnersdialzero33 you are a moron

  • @runnersdialzero33 I think that the record company guys wanted More jerry, I don't know if Jerry ever said that.

And "she was my girl" is a good song.

  • @runnersdialzero33 well said

  • jerry is a great uitar player, but not a great singer, and layne did 54 songs jery was 52 songs, from aic, layne is way more talented than jerry, all layne had to do is open his mouth jerry had to analize this and that, and was to mainstream, they were nothing alike, not a big jerry fan but i dont know him,he lies about layne alot, read interveiws from now and then,

  • definately agreed.

  • I know for a fact that Jerry had drug problems. Ive seen him do it. And in my opinoin he is an ass. Cocky son of a bitch. But then again I only knew him when he was all coked out. Maybe he has gotten his sh*t together. All in all alice is not alice anymore without Layne.

  • finally someone normal. i am so tired of all this pro nu metal alice in chains and "layne is a worthless junkie" shit. have you heard the remixes on the music bank video set? jerry's vocals are overpowering layne in every song (it sounds really bad, compared to the originals), just to give him a big fuck you. and now, everybody, hetfield (asshole), jerry, etc, etc, love layne soooo much. aww. i'm gonna cry.

  • nice call man

  • true without layne there not the same

  • A I Chains RULES and you ALL know it! just because they did drugs, or DO drugs, doesn't mean ANYTHING. What means something is that they TOGETHER put out HUGELY successful and Hugely meaningful music. Many people will miss the talents of Layne with AIC, and thats a shame. Remember wre human and we make mistakes.........Layne just paid the ultimate price for his and we'll all miss him for that! PEACE TO YOU ALL.

  • right ...we all fuck up in life

  • This song was written by Layne Staley. It's about Demri.

  • nope, not true. jerry said in interviews that he wrote it for music bank, but it fitted so well that they used it for AiC.

  • @ARMS0is0still0here

    Uh, wrong.

"The music to the song, along with the more famous "Get Born Again", was originally written by guitarist Jerry Cantrell in 1998 for what would eventually become his second solo album, Degradation Trip. However, the song was shown to vocalist Layne Staley, who ultimately wrote lyrics for the song, and recorded it with the band in 1998."

  • @morsemill2001 That is 100% correct. It even says on the Music Bank listing "Cantrell, Staley".

  • Was Jerry ever a drug addict? That's what my question has been since I found out Layne Died.

  • that is discussed heavily. people who know him and the people around him say yes and that he even snorted a huge amount of coke with mike starr on the way to layne's funeral. but it's not public, like layne's addiction. therefore, it's just rumors and... who knows? but with his asshole attitude, it is definately possible.

  • i don't think you can word it like this, if your bandmate has died of an OD after years of battling with drugs. anyway, it's not just the mike starr story, he is said (and i just heard this, i of course do not know if it's true or not) to have been heavily addicted to it, for years. but hey, who knows?

PS: layne wrote way better and meaningful songs. don't you guys just always quote him as "the singer"...

  • He did write songs, but he only wrote one that got put on the hit CD. Jerry Wrote the rest. Layne had a odd voice which made him special. Odd in a good way.

  • screw the greatest hits CD, is true music about having #1s and hits? no, definately not. that is no point at all and people always, always, always ignore layne's great talents in singing AND writing music and just being a great person. whatever, i don't care what anybody says, layne was the best.

  • Layne is a great musician, but it doesn't take away the fact Jerry wrote most of the songs. They were both talented in their own way.

  • yeh they were good together they were the soul of aic

  • Aw, crap.... I accidently rated it two stars. o.o'

    AiC is awesome! ^^'

5/5 stars don't listen to what I accidently rated it.

  • awesomw riffs.this song is beautiful ,i love the voice of layne in it

  • fucking great riff

  • this is so sad

  • Comment removed

  • Demri RIP Layne RIP

  • Yep her name was Demri Parrot very attractive woman i might add, she died in 1996. Demri was the inspiration for Died and Madseason's wake up. I guess you can say she was laynes second lady in his life.....

  • This is amazing in that it shows how much talent layne had, even towards the end. i know people have said it before, but seeing this just makes me think of how much he still had to give to the world and I guarantee could have changed mainstream music. Neil Young absolutely was correct when he wrote that song "The Needle and The damage done".

  • Thanks for sharing.

I'd never heard this before. Cant say its my favourite AIC song but interesting to hear none the less.

  • Get born again and dieds music were wriiten by jerry for his solo album and then used them for music bank...Layne wrote lyrics to both..Died ive heard is about laynes x girlfriend who he was still in love with she died a few years earlier..Fucking great song..

  • Jerry actually wrote this with the intention of putting it on Degradation Trip.

  • You mean boggy depot right?

  • No. Jerry wrote it for Degradation Trip along with 'Get Born Again', but he showed the two tracks to Layne, who wrote lyrics for them, which led to them being recorded with AIC instead. The song "Get Born Again" appears on 'Nothing Safe: Best of the Box'; it also appears on 'Music Bank' along with this track, 'Died'.

  • i dont understand why you're saying that he was writing this for degradation trip, his second cd, when he hadn't even recorded his first cd yet. are you sure this wasn't for boggy depot?

  • Read the wiki page, man.

  • For those that don't know, this song is called "Died." This was one of two new AiC songs put on a box set called Music Bank in 1999. Layne came out of hiding very shortly to hang out with Jerry and Jerry showed him some music he recorded. Layne liked it, so he wrote and sang on it.

This was the final Alice in Chains song recorded with Layne Staley on vocals.

  • i love this song the sound is so raw and laynes voice is great even at this stage of aic

  • why did you put RARE in the title, to get more page views?? stupid, this isn't rare, it just was recorded later on. i mean, all AIC fans know this song well. even people who don't know a lot of their works would recognize this.
