BUT, now not only do they fly 737-300 737-500 and 737-700, with the price that came from purchasing airtran, now they will fly 737-800. they are trying to also buy out fronteir and everyone said yes except for the pilots from fronteir because in the airline business, everything goes by seniority and when you get bought by a new company, your seniority is at the bottom of the foodchain no matter how long u worked for the other airline

Boeing 737s are assembled at the Boeing plant in Renton, WA. The moving 737 assembly line in Renton replaced three separate non-moving 737 production lines. The single moving line is more efficient, and allows aircraft to be completed up to 50 percent faster.

The much newer moving assembly line at the Boeing wide-body plant in Everett, WA moves at about 1.8 inches per minute. Its used only during the final assembly stages (seats, etc) of the Boeing 777.

like other small airlines such as easyjet ryan air etc they stick to a system called "no frills" which basically applies that you only use one type of aircraft or the same genre of aircraft such as with the "boeing 737 could be along side a airbus A319"

Remember when they were bidding for Fronteir? Their plan was to eventually switch the Airbuses into brand new Boeing 737s. Southwest is lookin for expansion on what they already have built on. They don't want to try something new and mess up what they got going. But you're right about no frills. :) go southwest!

Eventually, the 727's were replaced with the Boeing 737 because the 737 and the 727 have very similar cockpits and operations. The southwest fleet is now mainly 737's to keep the cost of training and maintenance down
