i had severe mitral stenois, caused by rehumatic fever.dec15-2010 i had a mechanical valve put it.had my anual checkup..a+ doing great! no complications but my blood goes up to 7.3 low as 1.4 thats scary can cause blood clot around valve.but i have a home montering machine so can check blood every week.for the first time in my life i can sleep on my back.i was told theses valves last 4-ever.im 55 and fell better now then i have in years!!.ty for this video..
I'm very interested at your work Dr. My sister was a 31 year-old female with a past medical history of rheumatic fever who presented with symptoms of congestive heart failure. She had been diagnosed with mitral stenosis and underwent percutaneous mitral balloon dilatation a few years earlier. Now she is fine and normal thanks for your video.
nice video.. i have a severe mitral stenosis too. my doctor at philippine heart center recommend that i'll have a Percutaneous Transluminal Mitral Commisurotomy (ptmc or balloon procedure) instead of valve replacement.. just want to ask, what is the better procedure? valve replacement or ptmc? i'm 36yrs old now..
@mhonova PTMC is an interim procedure done in a relatively less diseased valve and when there is no clot inside your heart chamber. Later on you may need a valve repair or replacement procedure. The advantage of this procedure is that it is less invasive and you can enjoy several years of carefree life.
@rhbulbul in terms of longevity, how many years will it last to have a re-stenosis again with ptmc procedure than a open heart valve replacement? the conclusion of my echocardiogram is severe mitral stenosis with mitral valve area if 0.45 cm2 by planimetry and 0.55 cm2 by pressure half time with mvg of 15 mmHg, with mild mitral regurgitation.. if you are my doctor what will you recommend to me base on my echocardiogram, ptmc or valve replacement? thank you for your reply. GOD BLESS!!!
When i was 6 years old I had an aorta operation but 5 years later I start feeling bad again because I had mitral stenosis. This year 2nd May 2011 I had a mitral valve repair and coarctation of aorta (shone's syndrom)before that I was everyday worst and worst, my blood was high usually 190 but sometimes 210/100 but thanks god I went to Switzerland for the operation ,now everything is going so good I can run ,play ,drive bicycle I feel very good soo don't be afraid from any heart Operacion =)

I finally got my mitral valve replaced last May 17, 2011. I do feel a lot better now and still recovering. For those who will undergo this type of procedure, goodluck to you! Don't be afraid, just relax cause you'll feel a lot better after a couple of weeks.

lost my mom to rheumatic mitral valve stenosis 10 years back. we could not get her operated as doctors felt she wouldnt awaken from anesthesia. i wish i could get her thru this procedure. brings tears and fond memories......
i lost my mom 19 years back to rheumatic mitral valve stenosis. doctors in delhi and calcutta refused to perform surgery as they felt she might not awaken from anesthesia. this video brings tears to my eyes.........i wish she could have undergone this surgery.
This Vídeo is very interesting to me because I had mitral and aortic valve replacement three years ago and I feel so happy to see the surgery step by step in these images. Thanks for this oportunity to learn about it.
Just so that you know that there is a risk as routine as it may be.
My dad's on ventilator now and may not ever recover after his MVR 15 days ago. He had a stroke during (or perhaps right after) the surgery. Particles of plaque were dislodged from his aorta during cannulation and they found their way to his brain. (he is 67 and quite healthy otherwise, and has been on statins for a long long time)
My mum had Mitral Value replacement surgery in August last month but unfortunately died during the operation. I am gutted I have lost her its awful. The surgeons did an amazing job and I am thankful for their hard work. If only she would be here today to see this video.
I am a candidate for mitral valve replacement..i'm female 31 and i had this RHD when i was 9. If you have a mechanical heart valve and have trouble sleeping, but you don't want to
use drugs to sleep - you can purchase a psychoacoustic audio recording with the title
"Heartbeat River" at cdbaby.com.

the mitral valve that was being replaced is in the left side of the heart? Does this mean to get to it, you had to go through the right ventricle?
