Pretty good on capturing what a UP/Alco FEF-3 can do with the throttle wide and the Johnson bar two clicks forward of neutral. Detented reversers have always been a necessity with the vibration typical of steam, whatever valve gear is used.
Awsome speed and power !!That series of engines worked hard in their day pulling heavy frieght and with high speed.One of the best Union Pacfic engines ever made.I just love that speed disels be jealous !!
@4902STEVEN - 844 is an oil burner and even if she had been a coal burner, there would have been an automatic stoker. Feeding something of this size at speed by hand is virtually impossible.
Nice video, but the locomotive looked like it was already old in 1989, when did they stop using steam engines?
