  • Your message implies that Canada and the CF has turned its back on peacekeeping in favour of 'war-making' in Afghanistan. The CF is in Aghanistan as part of NATO mission called ISAF which is intended to help that nation rebuild itself through the provision of security. This is a UN-mandated forces that took over the US-led coalition you mention. This happened 2 years ago!

  • I think it addresses the perception that Canada is there peacekeeping. Most Canadians might see what we are doing there as a peacekeeping mission. As we drift away from our Peacekeeping roots we align ourselves differently. It's part of a trend (like the Canadian recruitment ads)FIGHT FEAR, FIGHT DISTRESS, ETC., which makes us seem more American. I do not discount our military or the families whose children have laid down their lives and I hope diplomacy is nearer for their effort.

  • I wonder how much time this guy has spent if Afghanistan to see first hand what Canadian soldiers are doing there. I have spent 14 months of my life on a non-United Nations missions in the Balkans. The colour of the helmet does not determine the mission. As a veteran and on behalf of all Canadian soldiers who put their personal lives on hold to invest in nation-building around the world, I would encourage you to talk to someone who has been there.

  • The piece is not intended to offend anyone who is serving our country proudly. The intent is to highlight what seems like a shift in thinking and policy.
