Please don't misunderstand. By "fooling around on the piano," I'm not suggesting that he didn't derive inspiration for vocal arrangements on the instrument, either.
U may be right, but denouncing Elvis for pounding out simplified courts to "Happy Birthday Baby" was hardly my intention. I'm very glad that Elvis fooled around
on the piano, and have pictured him sitting at that lovely little baby grand in Graceland. I love Elvis, and wouldn't argue if u insisted that he was maybe the greatest entertainer and one of the most original singers who ever lived. Above all, I was simply trying 2 call attention to Ronnie Milsap's exquisite take on the song.
it really gets up my back when people say elvis was not a really tallented and playing guitar they are talking bull he was a fine guitarist and a good piano player
How could anyone tear down anyone who was as great as Elvis was, brcr29. I was talking specifically about this recording. If I'm not allowed to comment (and must keep my professional knowledge of the piano to myself), please say so. If nything, I was only trying to encourage people to check out Ronnie Milsap's characteristically terrific performance.
@tonywsmith2 That's absolutely right,Elvis was a perfectionist ! But his principal strongness was his voice ! Never heard Ali singing !? I will find'it.
@tonywsmith2 you're crazy. elvis was a good piano player and guitar player. he played piano on "you'll never walk alone" and on many concert performances including "rags to riches" and "unchained melody". a good example of his guitar playing would be ''baby what you want me to do'' or ''one night'' both from th 68 special.
Don't forget this was recorded in 1958 on a tape recorder that over modulates easily and they're just clowning around.
But he always had fun. And I don't think that too many other singers would sound that good on a private recording being almost 60 years old. I think your judgement is a bit too harsh.
@tonywsmith2 I know Ronnie Milsap's version and it is beautiful but be honest..you were not just talking about this one recording, "..anything on his own.." you said. But, more than anything, do we really need the insults?
Thank you for this! I met Elvis in 1957 and remained friends with him till his death. During my first performance in Memphis Elvis came to the television studio with the entourage at the time and took me back to the house. Later we went skating and I met Anita... Wes Bryan
@CTNWB Ouh....that's simply fantastic, you have meet Elvis and Anita, i'm very jealous ! What's about Anita's son ? do you know him ? He write me last year, about the vid. Elvis and Anita sings duet (on my channel)
It is a sad but happy time celebrating the birth and life of Elvis.. What an honor it is to have had him in our lifes and for him to share his life with us, and then for him to leave us with such beautiful memories of music and laughter.. He will be forever in the hearts of the countless that love and admire him.. He was a blessing God gave the world to enjoy. Rest in Peace, My Friend""""
This doesn't sound anything like Elvis and the piano "work" is horrible. It appears as if someone is trying to fool the public with this.

@gem4777 For you to say this doesn't sound anything like Elvis only leaves the knowing person with one conclusion - you don't know shit about Elvis.

grebel82: You're right, pal. My choice of words was a little ridiculous.
I love Elvis. But I meant what I said about Ronnie Milsap's "Happy Birthday
Baby." Have you checked it out. Thanks for the reality check.

Elvis was incredible when he was working with real musicians and writers and
arrangers, but excrutiating when he attempted to do anything on his own at the
piano or guitar. It would be kind to say this is on a par with Muhammed Ali's
piano voice performance of "Maybe." Thank God for the Tuneweaver's and
Ronnie Milsap's version of "Happy Birthday Baby."

@tonywsmith2 "Excrutiating"? He's just messing around here, totally unrehearsed and his voice is still beautiful and controlled...

@tonywsmith2 Hey what don't you understand? This was a home recording! Some people will do anything to tear down a legend.

Precisely, stupid. So why don't you just go ahead and listen to Ronnie Milsap'w
version, after all?. Geez, some people have skulls as thick as the walls of Fort Knox.
