The feminist, women's groups campaign that depicts women as victim only and not abuser really has to stop. I would like to see most countries, including my own pass laws that prevents this kind of onesided, sexist, double standard approach to domestic violence to become illegal, it harms more than it helps and it is mean. What these DV stats don't give you, is the proper breakdown. A good majority of men killed in domestic violence situations had a pre-history of domestic violence against their wives and were killed in self-defence. This is also something that MRA's won't do for you - which is breakdown why men are killed in domestic violence situations. Do more research.

Police reports and photos of the females are referenced, should be enough evidence to warrant further investigation. That wasn't what my post was about, however, it was about a lack of breakdown in the victim status in reference to domestic violence. Such lack of information is misleading. The numbers on DV are but a small part of a larger issue. True all people deserve protection, but men get it less than women. The effectiveness of the Western state autority has GIVEN women many privelages without the benefit of social responsibility. Not one of these ads (funded by public money) raised awareness of the less well known issue of female on male violence. What these DV stats don't give you, is the proper breakdown. A good majority of men killed in domestic violence situations had a pre-history of domestic violence against their wives and were killed in self-defence. This is also something that MRA's won't do for you - which is breakdown why men are killed in domestic violence situations. Do more research.

Hospital, she walked into a door and he got in a fight down the pub. People use these excuses To say the stats are "very real" is like saying a stab in the dark is accurate. The more hidden it is the less accurate the stats. Also you are suggesting that as male victims are less common we should not protect them.

The methods used so far have painted us a very good picture of DV. To ignore 60 years of research using countless methodologies and data is a bit like denial don't you think? If you never imply my last statement was wrong then you agree the police were wrong not to print even one aimed at female abusers. Are women in hetero relationships only victims? That is what the video is about. Also there may be a lot of research, but that doesn't make it right. I'm not saying throw it away but a study from 60 years a go, is it relevant to day? You can't probe DV on a large enough scale that you can generalise it to a whole population.

I wasn't talking about that statement. I think the police were right to target the population that makes up the majority for that crime. Of course women can get raped outside a het rel. I'm assuming you know that on a regular basis, literature reviews are done by social scientists. They combine all the research together and analyze it. If science isn't enough for you, I don't know what is in all honesty.

Yes, that sort of thing happens in every area of sociology. Science is but one form of knowledge among many according to post modernists, not the be all and end all. I'm not saying that men are the majority but it happens. I've seen it happen. Do you not agree that all people deserve protection from violence in a modern society? Do you not believe that women are capable of violence? If men deserve legal protection and women can commit violence then you agree with the video.

All people do deserve protection. However, the research shows that men are the majority of the perps. Therefore, these ads are for the majority. If we want to tackle domestic violence then starting at the majority who commit the act is indeed a good place to start. Also, if men really wanted to be a part of the solution then they'd have no objections to ads that go after DV perps, the majority which are men.

The numbers on DV are but a small part of a larger issue. True all people deserve protection, but men get it less than women. The effectiveness of the Western state autority has GIVEN women many privelages without the benefit of social responsibility. The unfortunate reality is that the expectations of women on a social level has remain unchanged, despite the judicial and legislative leverage that they have been afforded, while the roles of men have not.

Further PAR is not with out fault. It is political. A study on on DV using a method known to be overly political. Hmm strikes me as odd. PAR often lacks validity too. Can we really trust it. I don't know. I didn't question who the majority of the victims were, ever. I think it probably is women, but most DV studies are into women as victims (eg Dobash and Dobash). I don't personally know of any research which concentrates on men as victims. If you do know of any I'd be interested to read it.

PAR is political? That would mean that all science is political and I think that to ignore all these years of research which keeps showing the same overall picture is a bit like going under the blankets and claiming nobody can see you. Did you see the Australian panel of experts talk about men as victims of DV? It's on YT. They found that when men used DV services and they talked about what THEY considered DV, it either turned out that the men were battering OR that there was no DV at all.

Great vidoe I'm sure but does it stop all men being the victim of DV? No. I know a man had DV committed against him when his wife would kick him in the shins pretty regularly (she didn't deny it) Pour boiling water over him (again not denied). After the last incident (she smashed a wine bottle and threw it in his face) the police were called. He was arrested.

You don't have any other argument to make besides the 'science is wrong'? I never said men couldn't ever be victims. I said the majority of DV is committed by men towards women and other men. I Only said, it is very difficult to study and if we're honest (that word again) we most likely don't know everything there is to know. People hide it very well I also bet a lot more funding goes into DV against women studies than against men. If this is the case who do you think is going to be the more likely victim?

No we do not. There are many social expectations and realities that purposefully vilify men, rather than attacking DV itself... this requires social reform.
Last year, in the U.S. there had been a REPORTED last 1.3 million cases of DV against women, and 850 thousand against men. Given social expectations, legislation, judicial practices etc it is more likely that the number of female cases is far more accurate than that of men, and that those of men are much larger than they appear.

It's kinda like the pure quan studies where they count each act as DV. ie) kicking, pushing etc. and find out that when context is added, the woman was defending herself and didn't initiate the physical violence. In that panel in Aus they found men called the DV hotline but when talked to in depth found out he was the one who battered the woman.

If the majority of domestic violence is being perpetrated by males then these adverts are for them. If you're not a batterer then theses ads do not apply to you. These ads are attacking the perpetrators of DV, who are most likely men. Maybe you should ask the police where they get their 1 in 4 stat instead of speculating.

You don't get it. Women beat men too. There were 5 ads. All were aimed at the well known issue of male on female violence. Not one of these ads (funded by public money) raised awareness of the less well known issue of female on male violence. The majority of racism is white on minority, but why shouldn't we raise awareness of when it happens the other way round. No one said the ads in themselves were wrong or a bad Idea. Just that no ads about female on male violence is bad.

You just answered your own question. If the government is going to spend money on a DV campaign and ALL of the research shows that it's mainly women who are being beaten by men, then where do you think the money will go? I mean, this is common sense. If men want to start their own shelters, go for it. That's how women had to do it. It was all grassroots privately funded centres. Get together and get a grant, start a DV centre. What's so hard about that?

You truly don't get it. I'm astonished. You clearly believe that the ads are right to raise awareness about aggressive male partners. I must add, so do I. Yet none of the ads deal with female aggressors. This is what is wrong. The problem is, it neglects violence against men AND women, but only if it is commited by a woman. There is a clear double standard here, from the Met police. The police don't need a statement from her because can be arrested on reasonable grounds for suspicion of assault

Hypocrisy seems to be a big word flying around a lot, and for a GOOD reason.
The hypocrisy is mind-boggling. A man could say something as subtle as "suggest" some feminist claim is untrue, and EVERYONE will be up in arms. He will be fired, ridiculed, guilt-attacked, and insulted. If he even DARES suggest some flaw that MIGHT exist in some women...
But when feminist organizations directly spread beliefs that ALL men are (insert evil characteristic here), it passes with no problem.

Hi Heathen. It's feminism because of its history. It was a feminine struggle, well actually, it was also a civil rights struggle b/c many of the feminists also stood with blacks. Feminism doesn't advocate war last I checked. Also, females in the US weren't even ALLOWED to be combat fighter pilots until '93. Feminists talk about many issues related to education and mental health. I find it strange you think our education system is feminized. How so?

I do know this, again to the exclusion of equality but rather to advancing girls. Great but we need to talk about boys in education a heck of a lot. I don't advocate the actions of the US air force, but I don't have a lot of control over their equality policy least of all their equality policy prior to 1993. How is our education system feminised? Understand I'm talking about the UK. I've been through that system Boys used to out preform girls by some margin under the o level system. With GCSEs the reverse is true, yet nothing is done about it. Coursework modules improve girls grades and a boy's grade will suffer because of it.
