I was told by a guy here in Aus who has had over 200 fights that core was the most important thing hands down for a fighter... for 2 reasons (he said taking a shot to the ab area is worse then being knocked out from a head shot ... the pain, then the sucking because of short of breath etc, and also for speed/power of your punches, he told me that if you throw and miss you need to get back to your center position as fast as possible otherwise you may be open to various shots
Man dude has a mad strong core to be able to balance himself on the swiss and do squats and stuff like that. Reading some of the comments, all fighters need really strong core in-fact im sure most sports would require a strong core, but def in the case of fighters, I train in boxing and kick boxing as a form of x-training and it so important... the fighters are working there core like every day, doing countless situps and other ab work ... etc.
Just because some one is a good fighter doesn't mean their strength training routine is worth shit. you can be a good fighter without being strong, just look at the gracies. Hell just look at body builders. They train for sarcoplasmic hypertrophy so they get huge, but they're not that strong. you wanna know how to get a strong core? ask a gymnast or a powerlifter, not a fighter.
@AIveoIus Okay 1st off please don't say anything that dumb again, makes you look unintellegent. second off kicks, punches, sprawling, graplleing all require great core strength. Fighters have excellent core stregnth. Body Builders aren't strong?? uhhh I am sure I have seen Rony Coleman deadlift about 800 lbs. Bodybuilders are way strong. Plus most fighters train similar to Strongmen for strenght and endurance. Wanna know how not to look like a dumbass? do some research not just run your mouth.
And i'm pretty sure i've seen multiple powerlifters deadlift the same weight for multiple reps. And even if fighters need a strong core, this isn't the way to get it. Striking based combat athletes do not need that strong of cores, wrestlers and other grapplers sure, they do. Drilling wrestling and grappling will give them the core strength they need though. Not this bullshit. For the love of god, learn a thing or two about strength training before speaking.
He is using stabilizer muscles here. The core is where the power of punches and kicks come from. Plus you need to strong core to take those shot to the body. My point was 800 lbs is a lot so uhhh yeahh body builders are strong. You can think what you want, I'll think what I want and everyone else will continue to think that you are a moron.
Thats the thing though, you don't use stabilizer muscles when standing on a swiss ball or bosu ball, you use your hips and ankles, you don't need to keep a tight core at all. And most bodybuilders don't even include deadlifts in their workouts, ronnie is one of the exceptions because before he was a bodybuilder he was a powerlifter. I had a link but youtube won't let me post it. So i'll just repeat myself, learn a goddamn thing about strength training.
he is squatting you tighten your core when you squat, hips are part of your core. All Top Bodybuilders do squats heavy squat to be as massive as they are. Soo if they had a shitty core they wouldnt be able to support that much weight. Any top athlete needs a great core and didn't this start because you said this guy didnt have a core not over if this is the best core work out? Ofcrouse it isn't but I am sure a world champ knows what he is doing or he wouldnt be the best.
Ok Unlimited Reign. You have a good point, maybe I should try it before commenting on it. But remember EVERYONE trains different. This looks like it works for him. My Training time is limited, so you can try it and see for yourself. Sounds like you tried it? By the way YOU STFU!
you try it fuck munch. demonstration of balance, someone tries to knock you out. you keep your balance and throw a high kick from an impossible position... that is core balance. in tune with bodies centre of gravity.
That's pretty good, however he is clamping the ball with his feet, he is not standing on top. Clamping is good when you are learning, so keep up the good job you almost there.
To see an amazing strength, condition and balance video type in "MIKE SAFFAIE" thanks
this guy trains me and he knows what hes doin look at some more vids of him he is one of the best kickboxers in the world next month he is gana fight bob sapp but that aint even gana be a fight bob is fucked
ha this guy got scientific when you lift weights or do kicks on an unstable surface you can explode more off the ground when its stable who cares about how it conditions your core
While it is true that core training is very important for any martial artist it has been long shown that unstable surface work actually decreases the performance of an athlete in the given tasks.
Eric Cressey ran a study that has shown significant DECREASE in athletic ability over time when adding unstable surface work for conditioning the core. There are definitely better ways, even if this is a beastly task. The time of a champion is scarce and there are bettery ways to train!
world muay thai champion doesnt mean shit, look at his opponents they are pathetic, obviously the federation he fights in is pathetic. Id like to see him fight against nathan 'carnage' corbett and well see how this show pony goes, i guarantee first round KO loss
FransicofilholKO....If you have seen any of his other videos, you would see that he does normal squats too... He alternates everyday.. He isn't some half ass athlete.. 2004 Muay Thai Champ.. Go look at his video that says "Leg Workout" lol. He obviously knows what he is doing.
standing on the ball trains your rapid or fast twitch (depending on where you learned the difference i've heard it both ways) muscles in both your legs (balace though your ankles) and your core witch balances the rest of your body. no core, no upper body balance which is when strikers will knock you down without effort
i never said squats are shit, i said doing squats on a ball is a waste of time. You cannot lift heavy , it might be good for balance thats about it, there are many ways of building core strength, and i think doing half ass squats on a ball is not one. Why not do proper length squat, or do box squats if you want strong core, strong hips, glutes, hammies and lower back.
If you don't understand why the ball is useful there damn sure isn't enough space here to educate you. Tell us you can even stand on the ball. Then we'll discuss the benefits of the tasks performed while doing so.
haha i agree with hogswapper your so thick!! there are many ways to build core strength no shit and ive tried the ball and damn it is good. if it doesn't work for you then you are clearly not doing it correct!!!
He is a fighter not a BIG WEIGHT lifter, if you were educated about this kind of training you would know the difference. This dude is an opponent you would'nt want to face.
Of course it does, dont you know that all your power comes from your core, without that all your big shoulders, biceps etc dont mean shit. You try it and see.
So where do you think it comes from? For example, have you ever punched someone or a bag? If not try it without strengthening your core and see what happens. I wait for your reply.
FransiscocofilholKO, you obviously have no idea what you are talking about so there is no point in explaining why core is important to you. I would just like to see you go up to Alain Ngalani and tell him how shitty his squatts are and how what he is doing is useless.
Fuck You to all the pricks who call him names cuz of his talent... but i gotta say goodluck working in macdonalds for the rest of your worthless lives you should be happy you was lucky enough to get that!
that thing would pop if i stood on it.
