  • The very first time I tried to vote I got hit with an "Oops! You didn't re-register when you moved across district lines three months ago, now you can't vote!" But I didn't make the same mistake twice, and I've been able to vote since. It's a wake-up call, that you need to keep a close eye on what's going on and plan ahead.

  • Seriously IF the person doesnt care enough to get a voter id before voting then he sure didnt care enough to study the issues he is going to vote on. Do you really think more of those people voting is a good thing ?

And seriously Democrats say all the time they want to make US more like a europe ... well guess what in like every other country on the planet you need an ID card to vote.

  • Even homeless people can get ID, in NorthCarolina, the DMV will give them to you for free, if you can prove your homeless. All you need is a letter from a pastor, or police man, or hell even a mail man.

  • 25% of african americans dont have ID? Thats bull shit. As much Newports And wild Irish rose that African americans consume, they must have some sort of id. 25% is 4 million people. Maybe they are including children in that statistic, figures that they would, they are democrats.

  • Wait, I understand the argument about college students however if you move to a new state and you drive you have to get a state license for your new home of residence. If you're not making the area of your college your state of residence you can still vote in the state you are from, absentee. As for people who don't have a drivers license I didn't get my license till I was 22 however I got my first state ID when I was 16 to get a job. I HAD to have photo ID to prove I was legal to work.

  • You have to show ID to get onto an Airline. You have to show it just about everywhere. Why are certain people so against Voter ID? Getting a ID is about as simple as it gets. The reason is that the Democrats WANT illegals and otherwise unqualified people to vote. They know full well that the Democrats are gonna get 90-something percent of the fradulent votes. Simple as that. Illegal votes could make a difference in an extremely close election. The Democrats are beneath contempt.

  • OH NOES EVIL REPUBLICANS. Fucking nazi bastards just like all white people. I can't wait until you devils are wiped off the face of the earth. Thank god white birth rates are down and us and the Mexicans are taking over this evil empire.

  • If somebody doesn't know how to get an ID card, they must be a retard.....speaking of which....there also ought to be an IQ qualification for college admittance. And, seriously, one should also have at least an average IQ in order to vote as well!

  • The Young Turks have out done themselves on this one. First of all, there is voter fraud. It was most rampid during the Obama election. So don't give me this crap about how it's not an issue. Second, having to show identification to vote is common sense. How is that stopping anybody from voting? Come on.

  • @vjohn16 I agree 100%. You have to show a picture ID to get onto an Airplane. You have to show it for most fiancial services. You have to show it everywhere. So why are the Democrats so against voter ID? It's very simple. The Democrats are fully aware that they are gonna get 90-something percent of the Fradulent Votes. They don't give a rats ass about a fairl election. Illegal Voters could make a difference in a very close election. You are correct there is a lot of voter fraud out there.

  • @juscurious

I heard the same conspiracy theory from Alan Colmes. Who comes up with this stuff? It's like "here's what we're gonna say".

  • Obama is a Nazi

  • If you guys dont think there is voter fraud, your a fool. Get your ID ready , youve had 4 years to do so. I dont think the main issue here was to restrict blacks and young voters , the problem is trying to block illegals from voting. FU for turning it into a race thing!!! We let illegals in in high numbers and then cater to them come election time for their vote. A person from another country with no interest in America beside freebees should not be able to vote. beside being illegal is acrime

  • I just don't understand 1 thing about this whole voter ID thing: Do you have to pay to get an extra identification so you can vote, or do you just need something like a driver's license or a passport or whatever?

  • @TheRacistsMustDie -- yes, under the new ID laws some ppl in Tx & SC will need to hire an atty to get a card

  • @DillonDee1 Ach so. Yeah that's just simply ridiculous.

  • @TheRacistsMustDie -- Huh?

An Hispanic women delivered by a midwife in South Texas 55 yrs ago & who has no birth certificate or drivers license, but who has been on the county voting roll for 30 yrs & voted for 30 yrs - wont now have to hire an attorney to vote?

  • @DillonDee1 I think we're having a misunderstanding. I meant to say that the hiring of an attorney to be able to profess your right to vote is ridiculous.

  • @TheRacistsMustDie - in my example the person is going to have to present 3 documents showing when & where born if no BC & under the rules it will not be an easy task -- best suggestion is to present about 20 documents w/ an atty

  • they could either change their ID or get a absentee voter form. No tears here

  • So college students have a hard time voting because they travel to different states. But Republican college students dont have trouble voting?? This is BS!! College students can go through all the paperwork and applications to apply to a college, but cant go to the DMV and get an ID, really????? Come on!!

  • I have no problem using IDs to vote...just make the IDs free.

  • And then the college students can't vote for Ron Paul 2012. I'll drive to another state, don't worry.

  • When Mississippi voted in the requirement of State ID this past election, it came with a change to the photo-ID billing. It dropped it to Zero. Simple Photo ID's are now free in the state of Mississippi, offsetting the "Poll-Tax" argument. As for the out-of-state voters, there is absentee voting.

  • I think we need to one up the Republicans.

Here's an idea: Make every voter take and pass an extensive civics exam. You need to know how your fucking government works, what the Constitution and the Amendments really say, what the landmark Supreme Court rulings are, and who the Founding Fathers were and what ideas they held.

You know what? It would cut down the millions of morons who vote for Team Democrat or Republican. It would give the rest of us, who gives a shit, a chance to bring change.

  • @Violent2aShadow It would be easier, and less time consuming if we made those running for office take the exam, and have the results publicly posted next to their names along with their political affiliation.

  • Can't you send them away vote or something?

  • I'm 100% behind Cenk on this. Your vote doesn't count but you should still vote and then fight to make it count. And besides, even if you think it's hopeless it's not like it hurts to vote just in case it does end up counting.

  • Y'know, ordinarily I hate to be the guy that says this but..

    at 0:44

    Anna's face.

My god she really is gorgeous.

  • @MaceMeetFace It's the hair, man.

She oughta let her hair down more often.

The ponytail is cute, the bun has a "naughty librarian"-esque appeal

But sweet gentle baby jesus when her hair's down, it's absolutely beautiful.

  • This is stupid. Its not that they don't want democrats or US citizens to vote. It's the illegals that they don't want to vote. "The Republicans as usual." Blah blah blah. They don't understand what they are talking about.

  • @DeepSouth16 I think everyone in the world should be allowed to vote in American elections. When foreign banks control our economy and foreign entities such as the UN controls our war policy then so what if foreign people control our elections. Do you not see that the left and right have sold out America. Wake up!!!

  • HOT STUFF OURS!!

  • How many idealistic Obama voters are now disillusioned, and for good cause? Now what choice do they have? This system makes no sense. Don't tell me that I have no right to complain if I choose not to vote.

  • Voting what? Wow Ana you are stunning!

  • 1. The democratic system is fucking retarded

    2. In Australia it is a felony NOT to vote (solves the first problem)

    3. If you don't vote, you don't have the any right to complain about any party that got elected. You had your chance you didn't do shit and it's your own fault.

    4. I am the 99% and I believe in freedom, security, order and justice.

Maybe one day we can have all of this.

  • @Kaarox Australia deliberately makes it as easy to vote as possible, with a $60 fine if you don't. They have the voter rolls in front of them, they cross your name off, and then you vote. And if you try voting twice, you will be found out. Then we have preferential voting, which allows people to vote for their number one choice and THEN for the main party candidate (which means Gore would have gotten all those Nader votes in Florida).

  • @Kaarox Some people do not vote because they see it as a hopeless thing. It doesn't matter who you vote for, they are all corrupt, and they will still do whatever benefits the 1%. People got out and voted for Obama because they trusted he would be the change, and as you can see, he is doing what the people voted against.

  • @queentrissa You're absolutely right and that's because democracy is a stupid system especially when it's not even done right. However that's the only power the average person has within the system and to throw it away is to give in to oppression.

  • Voting is a way made by the Government to believe the people has rights. They don't.

  • They're afraid of the power of the American people if they were to think more and less reality TV.

  • and you wonder why, the OWS is protesting in the first place. soon, you'll have to "pay" to vote. and this is only being done because of "illegal immigration" rather than the truth. only a selected group of people will have the means to vote like this and in who's favor?.

they want the younger generation completely out of the next presidential election period. we can be in debt, but can't have a fair share in the presidential votes.

    bullsh*t.

  • younger younger people buffer democrat. AM I the only one seeing this?

  • God, I hate politics altogether, they're just a waste of time!

  • Republicans today are fascists...nothing less.

  • Ana looks like a Gypsy

  • naw fuck that don't let the Republican win there talking poits. A grown adult should have a fucking ID if there are going to school in that state they should have an ID for that state. enough of this poll tax shit. if your not responsible enough to get an ID then your not responsible enough to vote on your leader. Maybe we should have the non ID people vote on pictures insted of words like they did in Egypt.

  • @hollywoodjokerpicalo wouldnt a ssnumber be sufficient

  • @masteroach if they have the actual card but so places you can only vote if your a resident of the town or county.

  • 05:20

Uh... Cenk your position isn't that unique on that ;-)

  • Two messages for Ana... 1. Please stop telling me to look. It's an extremely annoying habit you have. 2. It's not "real quick"; it's "really quickly" (unless you're talking about a leading brand of chocolate-milk powder and want everyone to know it's not fake -- it's REAL Quik).

  • This would only further seperate the classes, this voter ID law disregards the fact that if you already have a state issued ID then you should be eligible to vote. Illegals can't even get state IDs! Now the lower class can't exercise their rights. College students only make up about a quater of the voter demographic in Wisconsin. Fuck Scott Walker.

  • Wait, When I show up to vote, I have to show some mail or something to prove that I reside in that county to vote... why wouldn't I just show my ID. I need it to board a plane, to rent a car, to open a bank account, to get a job... but not to vote? It seems much ado about nothing. If I live in the same state as my school then I vote there; if I choose to report my residence as my state of origin then I fill out an absentee ballot. It just seems like manufactured outrage to me.

  • My tennessee state id was free...

  • Whatever happened to WolfPAC? I signed up as an software engineer too help with the cause and never heard back. I guess it lost stream. We still need to take money out of politics. Why is this so hard? I suppose too many dumb asses vote against their own interests and vote republican.

  • @SuperToughnut

People who vote Republican are not voting against their own interests.

The Democrats sold out the working class long ago. There is almost no difference when it comes to actually implemented policy.

Sometimes the Democrats are even worse when in power (ie: NAFTA) as it disarms the "left".

They say, "we gotta support the Democrats because the Republicans are worse".

But both parties have adopted junk economics that has been a shield for the rich to loot the country

  • @SuperToughnut Cenk got a job.

  • "We gotta change the shit"

    -Ana 5:07

  • Do you really think your vote counts.

  • @papasparks2009 Jesus i hope people dont, i cant believe there are people out their who really thinking voting is worth a toss

  • 3:48 Racist BITCH

  • And what percentage of the voting population is college age? And then how much voter fraud do we have? Ya its about the same percent, looks like the problem works itself out

  • @DaytonaRoadster

Source? Just out of curiousity :)

  • @DaytonaRoadster it's still unconstitutional. How big of an affect it actually has is irrelevant and you cannot use that as an excuse. It's like stealing under the assumption that no one will miss what you stole.

  • Can i ask what is a state id? isn't a passaport or a driving liscence enough to allow you to vote?

  • @Meowwithanh Driver's License = State ID

Passport = Federal ID and generally trumps state ID. There is nothing you can do with a state ID (Except drive) that you can't do with a passport.

  • What about an absentee voter ballot being mailed to the student from their home state?

  • a lot of kids when the go out of state get drivers license. I am crippled and can't drive. But if I want to buy a gun I need a ID card. Guess what, I got my ID card and it's cheaper. Get a ID CARD

  • So glad im not american

  • Please America, introduce voter IQ restrictions.

    Your sincerely,

    The rest of the World.

  • Nobody's taking way these people's constitutional rights. Get the proper picture ID, which is inexpensive and easy to obtain, and you can vote. Simple. This really is a nonissue.

  • @ChristianMission Problem is, it should be FREE, as said somewhere in one of the Amendments. Look further down the comment chain; somebody mentioned it this morning.

...I don't know, you Americans with your clusterfucked politics!

  • I thought Cenk was going to say: "And it's totally unAmerican." But then I realised, oh no, wait, he can't say that... because this practice is now sadly fundamentally VERY American. Screw people over to WIN. It's like anything goes. There is absolutely no justice nor democracy in the USA. I'm British, and the intention of the Founding Fathers was to get away from "the tyranny of British rule". You guys are now little Britain. Welcome back to the homeland boys, you're just the same as us.

  • why is this on TYT and not TYTU

  • That is silly because clearly you have to produce an ID and a government issued ID should be enough across all states, what they are doing in essence is voter fraud.

  • @MizAlexandria You shouldn't even need a government issued ID at all... students might have them from other states but a lot of poor people in urban areas don't have one at all. There is a very effective system for verifying identity involving addresses and signatures that (as well all know) produces little to no fraud. Why fuck with something that's working?

  • Get a federal card

    Problem solved

  • You could solve this by having a Fed-issued ID card the way that all EU countries have

  • @CrystalEye736 Yeah, a lot of Americans seriously hate that idea... including me, actually, I guess it's the latent libertarianism coming out. I am a Westerner, I guess I can't help it. The whole idea that you need a card to prove you're a citizen is just creepy. There's enough government overreach and abuse of privacy, we don't need to invite more of it. And BTW, there's no actual problem here at all, we already have a system that works great involving addresses and signatures.

  • If your vote didn't count, the conservatives and Republicans wouldn't be doing everything in their power to discourage you from voting.

Make changes AND vote. And primary votes are very important - that's another vote Republicans and now Democrats are trying to remove, because that's where the most progressive voting happens. Waiting until the end means you've waited until someone else decides who you get to vote for.

  • Thank God I'm a Canadian.

  • @DMXP100 Hahahahaha, I don't think that sentence has ever been uttered in the history of the world. Hahahahaha

  • @DMXP100 Yes lucky.

  • @DMXP100

Voting sure is a lot better here then in the US, not as good as some countries, but the system works pretty well.

The US is pretty much a failed democracy, a two party state full of money, no winning option, just a lesser evil.

  • @DMXP100 You should build a wall in the south so that you can keep the Mexicans...ahem..Americans from crawling into your country when the states falls. /end sarcasm.

  • @DMXP100 Lucky b*stard.

  • @DMXP100 true patriot love, in all Thy sons command.

  • @DMXP100 i agree its good to be canadian but at the same time your fooling yourself if you dont think a lot of what happens in america are adopted by out govt as well...we have a stronger hold on our banking industry but we give away oil to america at pennies on the barrel ..they supress our right to free speech and protest and muzzle our scientists from speaking out even though they are some of the smartest in the world not exactly a free country we live in and thats just a few issues we have

  • @Issypt Oh, I know we have problems. I know that all too well. I mean, look at the cuts going on in Toronto as a case study.

But, we aren't as fucked as the USA system. Down there, everything is a mess. Up here, at least half of the political system actually works.

  • @DMXP100 i could not agree with you more as a fellow canadian

  • Comment removed

  • @DMXP100 Unfortunately my fellow citizen, it's not that much better. Soon enough the govt is going to be able to spy on us online - like in China; soon enough we're going to have tougher crime laws that will only put MORE criminals in the streets at greater waste of our tax dollars; and we now have a right-wing propaganda machine, Sun News (re: Fox News Canada). We're becoming more and more like the US all the time.

I sympathize, but at least we're the lesser evil.

  • @TransHero Exactly. Yes, our system is flawed. But, the Canadian system is almost flawless compared to the broken piece of shit called "the US political system."

  • @DMXP100,Right now I'm jealous of you for making that comment.

  • Comment removed

  • @DMXP100 you would thank god if only you get to kick stephen harper out of power.

  • @bahamn15 ...?

Personally, I never had much of a problem with Harper. But, then again, I'm not all that deeply entrenched in politics.

  • Ok so i get the college id issue but not the 25% of blacks part. If you live in New York or whatever, you most likely still by booze or smokes, how do you do so without picture id if under 30? And so many daily transaction even banking or post requires id to identify yourself.

  • even if someone else wins the democratic nomination I will still write in RON PAUL on my ballet come elections, we need someone like him to shake things up! Everyone do the same!

  • very good points here guys, but Ron Paul is the only real candidate, if you want further harm to our country and our rights, then vote for obama or newt, but if you want a real candidate who is willing to really change things then Ron Paul is our guy I don't know why you would think obama or anyone else is better because obama is worse than bush or any other president we've ever had! We need someone real and we haven't seen a real guy like RON PAUL ever in these elections, you must be blind!

  • I'm not in favor of poll taxes or voter repression, and with that being said, what is the issue with requiring ID? Perhaps someone can enlighten me as to how that restriction is unreasonable? I don't think TYT did a convincing argument here.

  • @jesse1018 I kinda agree, I really don't see any reason to not require and I.D. I wouldn't have a problem with having a special ID for voting, it would make the state more money and the only thing you would need is to be a citizen. Not a driver or a student ID but a special ID thats free for just voting.

I'm liberal and I'm fine with using a special voting ID provided by the government.

  • Ana:

Completely change the shit...er uh...system! Yes...that's it XD

Although she was right the first time =D

  • Voting should be made more accessible if Democracy is going work.

  • "The right of the citizens of the United States to vote in any primary or ether election for President or Vice President, for electors for President or Vice President, or for Senator or Representative in congress, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State by reason of failure to pay any poll tax or other tax" this action to reduce "voter fraud" is unconstitutional under the 24th amendment to the United States Constitution.

  • I <3 Australia. Mandatory voting FTW.

  • @kathyofrin You HAVE to? o_O What if someone just doesn't care, and they vote for whoever?

  • @milkyway531 that often happens, but as Ana says, that's their prerogative.

  • @kathyofrin Wait... You HAVE to vote? Oh, god no. That's mental.

  • @Lpoolboy Not really, there's a polling station at the end of my street. it takes like 10 minutes once every 4 years. No big deal.

  • @kathyofrin Everything in Australia FTW.

  • @dangerouslytalented Not everything, it's not perfect.

  • im so happy for you guys to have made it to tv. im rellay thankful for the information you put out there, also you are really likable. makes it even better to inform oneself

  • I don't think it is that big of deal to spend 10 measly dollars on the part of college students.

  • @TheSuperLib but you have to understand that americans have had the right to vote for around 200 years now and this bullshit id nonsense shouldnt be happening. If you are an american and of legal age to vote you should be able to no matter what state you are from.

  • @XxArkhamxAsylumxX My main issue with TYT's video is that I can't believe that College students are the most affected demographic as far as voter identification laws are concerned. Minorities, specifically African-Americans and Native Americans, face 46% unemployment, while most of my fellow college student friends have decent jobs.

On your point about voter-id laws being nonsense, now. I agree with you; if you are an American citizen 18 or older, you SHOULD be able to vote in any state.

  • I like your hair Ana!

  • Comment removed

  • 25% of blacks do not have picture ids? I find that hard to believe since you need picture i.d when you apply for welfare and other government services.

  • Don't forget about electronic voting machines that can be changed to R.

  • First world problems...

  • ana, oh ana, you are so beautiful.

  • Id bet way more college students would vote for Ron Paul than Obama.

  • @tehdouglas1 No.

  • @tehdouglas1 youd lose money

  • @tehdouglas1 - He has a few good ideas, but three times as many bad ones.

  • press 1. nuff said.

  • Republicans are the devil. Any common person who votes republican is a dumbass.

  • There are too many conspiracy theories from TYT...lately

  • @DesBlackmore

In the past (in the late 19 century and early 20th century), it was actually the democrats were the one playing dirty and torching places.

But yes, I agree, i miss the day 20th century democrats and republicans when the two parties actually fight against one another fairly and build America the country it was,

  • Younger people usually vote for Ron Paul*.

    At least this year. ;)

  • @MajorCoffey Just the internet crazies

  • I'm not saying this to sound rude given that I have state ID for AZ (Where I live) but Can't these students get early ballots? Just mail them in and be done with these people trying to hold them back.

  • In regards to the presidential race, your vote doesn't actually change things. We've had 4 presidents voted in without a majority of the popular vote, because of the electoral collage.

Why does the country still make such a big deal out of the popular vote? Seriously, the last one of those presidents was in 2000. Have we already stopped caring about this?

  • my first vote 19 for the puppet in office now fuck voting i might consideer it if ron paul wins the nomination but i think we all know that wont happen

by 2013 WW3 and martial law in america if OWS continues the latter caused by OWS im getting the fuck out of here plan ahead europe canada might take me fuck it ima move to brazil and learn a new language

  • voting aside that 25% is supposed to have i.d. no excuse....

  • @201stars Why? If you don't need it, why have it? I didn't have a picture ID until I was 22. You also have no requirement to carry an ID. This is America after all. Not 60's era USSR.

  • Our new Republican Secretary of State here in Kansas Kris Kobach's whole campaign was about voter fraud, which he was never able to prove. Now he's implementing voter restrictions, some of which eliminate voter registration drives. He also helped write the Arizona immigration bill.

  • Fix the system? It's a lemon, scrap it and invest in a newer model. Something with a sun roof.

  • Anyone else notice that the USA isn't anything like the TYT think or hope it is?

  • demsarepostal is the completely uneducated idiot and militant redneck who never attended school beyond 5th grade that we all are used to in stereotyping Republicans.

  • To vote or not to vote...

Vote, but vote for neither party.

  • Paul, Obama, or anyone else, America is still most likely gonna be screwed.

the only real solution is to get corporate money out of politics.

  • Is anyone else getting tired of these TYT trolls filling up the comment section with childish nonsense?

  • @TheDalinkwent Yeah, but they have Ron Paul glasses on so what can you do.

  • OF COURSE

  • you should vote, if only to encourage legislation that will benefit the public within the constraints of the current 'democratic' institutions. An overhaul of the system is necessary, but it wont come with a sudden popular mass movement or revolution. We should push the limits of the good that current institutions can provide, when we reach the limits people will see that this system cannot provide for the needs of the public (now the global community), thats when the change happens.

  • Ironically, it is these very same closed minded conservatives who argue that Democrats/socialists (in their dictionary, they're the same), are the ones arguing that it is the socialists who are taking away our right to choose.

  • Your vote really only matters depending on what state you live in and how many electoral votes your state has.

  • Ron paul is a retard....Dont vote for somone "Because no one else is good enough". That being said John Huntsman is fine.

  • @awsumpossum1 Jon Hunstman will let Israel and the military industrial complex walk all over him. He's a good guy but he never gives a straight answer to foreign policy.

  • Voter fraud does exist. Felons, illegal’s, & in IL, dead people. You add these to the mix and it is WRONG. There are laws that prohibit felons from voting if you do the crime, you lose your rights. Who does not know this? These ppl haven’t ever heard of absentee ballots? Idiots. It is a shame that these 1 sided far from informed ppl are filling the heads of others with half truths. If you want to vote, buy a State ID I have to pay for a driver’s license. To participate you follow the rules.

  • @demsarepostal You and alot of people are missing the point. These students are targeted because they will probably vote dem for the most part. Its not that they don't want to get an ID, most prob have an ID from there home state. If a poll booth won't believe who they are to let them vote without an ID. Why are they able to go to school without one? Why can they buy alcohol? Why can they have electric bills? Why can they do any number of equally important things without a state ID? B/c its BS

  • @ThyPeaceMaker If EVERYONE has to show an ID then it is not "targting" any particular group. Get it? EVERYONE, black, white, old, young. I know of no state that doesn't ID for booze or smokes. Colleges have student ID's. Utilities ask for SS#'s and do credit checks or make you pay a deposit.

  • @demsarepostal Wow you really don't get it do you? These are students are from out of state. They may live on campus, and therefore have no need for an ID to drive. Just cause they don't have an ID in that state doesn't mean the name on there birthcertificate is irrelavent, or that there status as a US citizen changes. There are ways to verify someone without having a state ID and without suppressing democratic voters.

  • @ThyPeaceMaker You just don't get it or even want to. Laws are in place to show some kind of ID to vote. If you have none, simple, you don't get to vote. If you want to vote bad enough you do what needs to be done to do it. Excuses but no solutions.

  • @demsarepostal and if you cant afford it? tough luck? some democracy you have there

  • @demsarepostal Here's a solution use any number of ways to verify a person's Identity that any other company, school, or government office might use instead of a state issued ID. Whats the end game? To stop voter fraud. I'm not saying don't verify them, I'm saying find other ways to verify them that don't infringe on their rights or make them basically pay a tax to vote. Its absurd.

  • @ThyPeaceMaker What rights are being infringed uopn?

  • @demsarepostal

Uh, but not all college students need the student ID? Like at my school if you're not on a meal plan and don't live in a dorm on campus you don't need one...
