Hemp would also make a great supstitute for corn since it is much more of a hardy plant and would require far less pesticides. It also grows many times faster than corn because of it's high Cellulose content. Cellulose is basicly plant sugar and would yield far more alcohol per pound of crop. Then there are all the uses for the stalks such as clothing and such...

Sorry, but your video is very mis-informed.

Do your research and you will find all your mistakes. It appears you have not done your own homework, but are taking the talking points of the ones who would have you think what you are saying is correct. I will admit, that at first listen, it seems reasonable. However, if you actually do the research you will find many false-hoods in this presentation.

The only reason we dumb Americans are using corn is because of the farmer's lobbyists. So, what I'm saying is it will be very difficult to use Algae instead of Corn. But I have a better idea. Do away with the IC engine completely. Also, take a look in your kitchen. Grab the first processed thing. I grabbed Pop Tarts. Pop Tarts has wheat flour, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, corn starch, corn meal, soybean oils, corn syrup, and soy protein. All of which are made into Ethanol.

I seriously doubt you have ever even seen a cow, so I'll break it down for you. One Holstein dairy cow consumes 12.4 lbs. of corn per day. In that respect, you need 1.78 lbs. of corn to produce 1 gallon of milk. When corn is $2.00 a bushel, there is 6 cents of corn in 1 gallon of milk. When corn is $6.50, there is still only 21 cents worth of corn that goes into 1 gallon of milk. The other costs are mostly attributed to labor, transportation, marketing, and energy costs.

ah, ya.. I HAVE, many times, I live in a huge farming area and lived on one when I was little! there's a big difference between 6 cents and 21 cents it adds up. and it's not just corn prices I'm talking about!

Sure it adds up, but when so little of the price can be attributed to corn it is irresponsible to blame ethanol for price increases. The biggest culprit is transportation and energy price increases.

yes but ethanol isn't helping it any, we need to use something other than crops, like algae. It's been in the news more lately I think once they develop the algae fuel then they can do away with corn ethanol. Bring corn prices, fuel prices, and food prices back down again.

Ethanol is a govt subsidized pipedream, and a stupid one. Im all for FarmAid, and farmers, and those employed by big agra, BUT biofuels do nothing to combat CO2/global warming. Recycling waste veg oil for diesel is a good step, but there is no reason other than the absolute stubornness, laziness, or retardation of the human race that we are incapable of becomming a 100% renewable electric worldwide society. ou people are stupid I work at a ethanol plant and ya its alot of water but we have a methanator, which recycles it we use less water than a irrigation sprinkler per year, know the real facts before you open up your big mouths. Also the corn we use is not the food humans eat cow eat it we use it get the ethanol out of it then it comes out as wet cake and goes back out to cows for eating, how else could we make money buying corn for 5.00 a bushal and selling ethanol for 2.00 a gal.

There are quite a few myths in this video. Notice it only talks about ethanol from corn. Corn is one of the worse crops for ethanol. You get three times as much per acre from sugar beats, and even they are not the best. If you till the waste from distillation back into the field, fertilizers are unnecessary. Tractors can run on ethanol as well. The reason cars don't run as well on ethanol is that the engine is set up for gas. Ethanol likes high compression and spark advance. sorry,out of space.

yes I know there are several things ethanol can be made from, I did say corn ethanol. However, here in the US it seems to be focused mainly just on corn, and not other crops. I still don't think ethanol is very efficient regardless of what crop is used, 3 times as much is nothing compared to what we can get from algae. And about the fertilizer, the farmers would still have to spray for bugs, weeds, and disease, which is probably worse.

Thank you for helping the world see that the use of ethanol is one of the worst decisions people have done in a long time.

Unfortuneately I live in the Midwest and have been FORCED by the government to use ethanol for years now. I am trying desperately to stop ethanol for all the reasons you have layed out.

Please keep up the good work of stopping ethanol here and in your daily life.

Thanks for the comment, how have you been "forced" to use it? The government can be so stupid some times, I don't know why they all are so in love with trying to use ethanol! I think they should BAN it, and here they are trying to get MORE of it! pathetic. Did you read my description?
