I don't know jack about this type of music, but it caused my birds to start hopping around their cage and singing along while they bobbed their heads so I'm giving it an A+
Amazing playing! And those pictures...If that's what Ireland looks like, it's definitely on my list of places to visit. Can anyone tell me what the people are like?
Man, I've never seen such a beautiful place with such beautiful music. The countryside of Ireland reminds me of the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, rolling grass, crisp air, just beauty. God bless.
This is the only thing I can actually play, I used to play like that! I've been playing since I was 5! although, I cannot play as well as I used too because I broke my wrist a few years back :(
The sound you can get from a bodhran is amazing! I love it <3!
Really liked this, especially since I recently picked up the bodhran and the whistle. As to anyone who's interested in learning or improving their bodhran playing check out Bodojo.com; its a great community of bodhranii who are willing to share their knowledge of the drum. You can browse freely but i suggest your joining. You have novices to extremely experience people. There is also a companion Yahoo group and Facebook page to round things up
The recording quality on this was excellent. The bodhran is indistinct in some recordings, but not this one. Very precise and clear as if we were in a small room with you. Good job.
I am in compleatly blown away by the quality of both the players! If I could EVER play Bohran as well as this I would die happy! If anyone has any exercises or any thing thats helped then that they could pass on to a Bodhran beginer would be Brill :D
Wow... This makes me feel inferior.... VASTLY inferior.... I will NEVER be able to play Bodhran like that..... And don't even get me started on the penny whistle.... XD
Greetings from Sacramento CA. I am an American of Irish descent. Three of my grandparents were Irish and one was German, which is why I like to drink Guinness on a strict schedule. You guys are great. I'd like to get some of your Cd's. Should i go to your web site to order them?
@payler Fool. I'm British and I love Irish music, because unlike you, and the rest of you shallow minded fools who want nothing more than to separate, I love music for what it is - music, and not a political statement.
Also, if you want to really split hairs, the tin whistle is originally an English instrument. Does it matter? No. It's all music of the British Isles.
great bodhran playing, you kick the accent out of that drum! I hope I will learn to play that way someday.... Also the whistling is really good! greetings
I do love playing the bodhran, and my wife loves the whistle,
I let you know one of my secrets.....(the drum is a Brenden White triple skin) great low tones....and when push the inside you get the greatest range of tones) check out one of these drums if you can...they are simply the best in my opinion
@markendall007 sadly I'm not a bodhran player indeed... I'm mainly a pianist, then whistler, uilleann piper and accordionist... bodhran is the last instrument I took up, and I don't have much money to buy a good one... Three weeks ago I took up the Top End technique but it's not easy, I'm slowly learning...
thank you anyway! I'll surely try one of those drums, when god drops down some money
Go hAlainn, go hOibhinn, go hIontach. We're not much good at Finance but we're bloody good trad. music. Celia, don't mind him, that was breath taking, no pun intended. Mind you he's no slouch, himself.

@TheCandleBrother Right i'm not a Bodhran player so don't take my word for this but by sliding your hand up and down the instrument it should make different notes. If it's only playing one note you might need to tune is by twisting the "tuning pegs" they might be called on the sides. Hope this helps and hope you have fun with your Bodhran ;)

As well as changing where on the bodhran you strike it, you also need to use your non-tipper hand (usually the left) between the bar and the skin to vary pressure on the back of the skin. You can also get clicks by hitting the tipper against the edge of the bodhran.
That was great! I do love the tin whistle though! I recently bought a brass Feadog in D and see that I have alot of practicing to do.

@TheCandleBrother Right i'm not a Bodhran player so don't take my word for this but by sliding your hand up and down the instrument it should make different notes.
