How come Bezerk did not have voice like the arcade version? I saw a Home Brew Video with a game that had voice so Vextrex is capable of digitized sounds.
Pole Position On Vectrex did not have the digitized speech either.
Sigh. I love my old Vectrex. Haven't played it in 15 years probably. Going to move out of state soon so have to unload a lot of old stuff. I probably should get rid of the Vectrex and all my games -- still have original boxes for most, and the plastic overlays for all. Haven't the faintest idea of where to advertise it to people who'd be interested in it though. Not to mention my two Atari 2600s, Atari 5200 and Intellivision II.
Got one of these in the loft. It's going nowhere! We asked for a C64 or ZX Spectrum when we were about 6 and got a Vextrex instead! You get the impression that the build quality of these things would allow them to withstand a nuclear blast!
Yes, thats it! There are hardcore Vectrex fans who have modded their system for portability but the original factory system has a built in power supply. Thanks for watching!
I used to love that little system. We used to go to a video rental store back in the early eighties called Erols. They had one there as a demo for customers and I always got to play it while my parents were finding movies to watch.
The only way we could film the Vectrex was to shoot it the old fashioned way. Thats my reflection pressing stop on the camcorder remote. Then, just a few game footage leftovers. See orion1052003's comment. Thanks for hanging in there all the way to the end!
Wow, good eye orion1052003! If you check out the intro to the show (found elsewhere here on youtube as a part 1), you may be able to pick out part of that familiar ditty. Listen closely. Thanks for watching!
Hello Livores666, thanks for the question. That sound, known as the "Vectrex Buzz", is caused by poor design and all Vectrexs do it. There is more information on the subject, including how to mod your Vectrex (and kill the buzz), online.
I remember reading that the Vectrex was the result of a vector display manufacturer having a stack of cheap vector dislay units to get rid of, so they flogged them to Miton-Bradley for use in games!
Yes cpnjack, thats true. Although it has influenced graphics in games like Rez and Vib Ribbon, actual vector monitors are no longer in production. Thats one reason why they fetch hefty prices from arcade game enthusists. The vector monitor technology was created by Atari and spawned from research and development of their unreleased Cosmos system project. Thanks!
It may of been black and white, but it looks more powerful than a 2600, and I think I like the graphics better too.

Do you know what kind of analog stick the vectrex used? I need a replacement for one.

Why are you using NES music in a Vectrex video?
Also, no offense intended, but man you stink at those! That helicopter never killed me! Bwahahahahahahaha!

Have you ever heard of the word "soon"? By the time something would have sold there, I would have moved already.
I ended up giving a lot of stuff to a friend who goes to an electronics swap meet for him to sell.
But I have kept the Vectrex! Not sure where my cartridges are yet. Must be in one of the old boxes that I moved without opening.

Yeah, the old consoles were built like tanks, far cry from the new stuff *coughXBOX360cough*. Drop a PS3 and a 2600; see which one surivives.
Though, to be fair, it's not like they had any moving parts back then.

It plugs in... just like a console system, but with it's own Vector monitor... The 80s ruled...

Oh I love geek porn!
I'm glad I had an Atari coz the Vectrex game look too damn hard!

It was a little tough, but the control is great. Practice makes perfect...(however, the Atari VCS is dearest to my heart).

Looks like some Ti99/4A Blasto at the end of the video.
