  • She lodged that mango deep in her mouth..

  • He's right, I dropped some kansai-ben and got mega lulz in Japan.

  • The one in the left id really cute. Just saying.

  • maiu(まいうー)=oisii(おいしい)=delicious.

    ex)この(kono) すし(sushi) まいうー(maiu) だね(dane) = この(kono) すし(sushi) おいしい(oisii) ね

    It means

    「This Sushi is delicious.」

  • umm...uh...wha...what now?

  • So basically just take the first phonetic and move it to the end? Kinda similar to "pig-latin" in English? lol

  • I`ll coin one, too.(zougoshimasu?)

    shiioi !!!

    ... spread!!

  • まいうーーー

  • Maiu is a one of word used by celeblities.

Those people often say some words in backword.

Like Hawaii --> Waiha, Roppongi --> Giroppon, meshi-->shiime, and so on.

Maiu is not a word Ishizuka ceated.

  • @waimanalo19

    typo: ceated-->created

  • @waimanalo19

    正直に言えば、僕は分かりません。But thanks for your comment!

  • @Gimmeaflakeman

    no problem!

and now I've noticed should have to say

"maui is not a word Ishizuka coined" just learned it, am lame! lol

  • You can always commit Seppuku that would make them laugh.

  • Thumbs up for the supporting cast.

  • I'm taking a japanese class and it's so cool how I can read Hiragana now. The symbols actually mean something to me... whereas before I had no clue.

  • @rn9rn I dont see what that has to do with anything but... Um, not really but... almost perhaps. ._.

  • @rn9rn You're quite sad. Judging him off of his opinion on beauty? *Palm*.

  • 1:30 she looks soo adorable saying maiu omg D:

  • Is Ishizuka a comedian? Do you think a lot of people know the term? I would feel silly if I said it and no one got it hahah XD

  • @tootsieroll6x6

Yes. I think most people know it.

  • Interesting video.

  • Those cakes at the end look incredible. Maybe that's how Ishizuka got so super fat.

  • So what does it mean?

  • @taylornate2

    Delicious.

  • I'm heard Ishi-chan use this word on tv. My daughter likes to imitate it and says "maiu" at the dinner table sometimes. Great video! ~Kurt :-)

  • DOINK!

  • Hahaha the best bit was when they said "he is super fat" in unison!

  • Great video Victor that gave me a good laugh and was very informative! ありがとうございます。

  • My friends say this a lot ahhaa!

  • @joelmb1000

    D'oh!

    NO! LOL!

  • Umai can also mean someone who is Skillful or Talented at something right?

  • @joelmb1000

    Yes!

  • Are your two students from different regions in Japan? They pronounce their u completely different, which confuses me totally...

  • @AndreR241

    Really? I didn't notice! I'll listen again.

  • @Gimmeaflakeman just the physical way they say it I think. One uses the lips, the other doesn't. Thus, different 'u''s. It's similar to the difference in English 'r''s, and Japanese 'r''s. English used the lips to emphasize the r sound, while Japanese(for me at least) uses the tongue. At least, this is what I have gathered in my short time studying the way people speak...may be completely wrong, but I'm probably right...I think...

  • @aoiahiru

I guess you didn't read the last caption. The point is it's funny if a gaijin says it because it is behind the times. Using slightly outdated or not so popular expressions will guarantee smiles and laughs.

  • Omg the girl on the right is so cute and beautiful! ^.^'>

  • @MurdocLC I think thats his wife... o.o

  • @LynMcTisdale I'm sure its not, i havent seen her face yet in any videos but im sure they both are only students of his.

  • @LynMcTisdale Wich i see now he said in the comment below...

  • Are those students of yours or something? Sorry if you've said who they were in some earlier videos, I'm pretty new.

  • @hakuro

    Yes, students!

  • まいゆ~

  • i can tell the difference between mayu and maiu...i can't pronounce it.

  • @alexleyva22 maiu is just the word umai reversed.

  • @getoutofmyband

    You really think so, genius?

It's an anagram, not umai reversed.

In fact, umai reversed is iamu.

  • @ernonno

Be nice to Getoutofmyband, please. I'm auditioning next Tues. I heard their SPOON player died in a terrible bumper car accident.

  • @ernonno no need to be harsh. that's what i meant to say but i made a mistake.

  • @ernonno my japanese friend told me about this expression 3 days ago and when he explained he said "that's umai reversed" and I didn't even question it.. it obviously isn't the word reversed but an anagram. He probably didn't know how to explain it and I just wrote what he told me without thinking. My bad. I just asked him again and he said that what he meant to say was: When you say umai umai umai a bunch of times really fast it sounds like maiu maiu..

  • maiu?

maybe when 'the fat guy' said it, he was actually trying to say "umaiyo" but he probably had to much food in his mouth to speak clearly. I mean to me that sounds like a legit theory but... yea i guess maiu is a word. ?

  • I don't get it.

  • @AndrewXAnarchy same here. this vid was rlly confusing

  • @AndrewXAnarchy I dont get it either.

  • @Degenskonto

This word is not really that popular but if you use it you're sure to get a laugh. So next time the opportunity to say OISHII or UMAI presents itself say MAIU instead!

  • @AndrewXAnarchy

as far as i can tell, some fat guy named ishizuka used this word to say 'umai' which as explained in the video and some of the comments, means delicious. since ishizuka seems to be a comedian or something like that, japanese people find this word funny.

end of explaination; pls correct me if i'm wrong

I send out greetings to gimmeabreak(/flake)man from germany.

and please, keep making your funny/interesting/informative vids :)

I'm a big fan since I study japanese at university,

  • @AndrewXAnarchy agreed, this title is misleading.

  • lol, when I saw "easy laugh" and you started by asking about "Mango" my mind deviated towards the gutter. I guess that's part of what makes me a moron. Cheers.

  • TokyoZeplin, what word could you possibly meen? (nudge, nudge)

  • Mango so sounds like another japanese word with a very different meaning >_>

  • @TokyoZeplin LOL ya i think almost everyone thought that who knows japanese lol.

  • @draggt03

Actually, you'll think that at the beginning Padawan. When you study a bit more, the sounds will all disappear and all you'll hear is meaning.

Unless you haven't had some loving in a long time -- in which case everything will sound like something nasty! LOL!

  • @Gimmeaflakeman lol It just sounded like it I heard her clearly on what she said. I do have a dirty mind at times though...Ive been studying for quite some time :). Have not really had much going over to Japan and speaking with natives though.

  • hehehe~ How cute~

  • It was funny, and I even learned something. =D

  • ya that girl on the right was so cute saying maiu at the end.

  • Great vid. All my other subscription's haven't been putting out a lot of vids lately so I appreciate you always updating ありがとう

  • I use まいう fairly commonly and if people don't know it, they usually catch on to what word I'm playing with just like we do in English.

  • Dem cakes :L

  • I want to be in your class.

  • @ericsurf6

    Eric! Dude!

  • My word for delicious is MINE :P

  • good to know!!

  • That girl on the right looks so Korean

  • thanks! i will try it out on my wife today. she will probably just look at me and call me an Aho.

  • That is the thing. People think that fat people ALWAYS eat.... Not the case. Typically it is a disorder, like binge eating. Kinda like bulimia without the purging.

  • @Jrod311 Most of them do eat a lot, but the main problem is not moving. It's against human nature to sit in a chair all day long. :P

  • @Jrod311

True. But this particular comedian always seems to be eating because he does lots of food oriented programs on TV.

  • @Jrod311 haha yeah, skinny people or smaller people can eat just as much and much more look at all the food competitions there are men and women who weigh under 200 pounds and are beating 350 pound monsters. Skinny people eat way more its just that they move around and keep fit something that a overweight person doesn't d thats why they gain weight over time.

  • Cute girls : )

  • Using uncommon Japanese has gotten me a few laughs. えらいっこちゃ!

  • oh man ive seen this guy everywhere! i think hes the best :)

  • Picking on the poor guy for being fat? =(

    That's mean!

I'll use that new word around the house.

    Thanks for the lesson! =D

  • @markshmily

You know, I have to admit -- even as I put on the pounds -- that probably have a prejudice on some level that makes it easier to josh about fat people. But sometimes, or so it seems to me that some of them use their .... physical shape to shape their images as entertainers.

  • maiu!!!!!!!!!!!!!! kawaiii

  • Wow! So many cakes at the end! There so decorative!

  • So maiu is non-gender specific? まいう sounds like a cute word. I just can't picture myself saying that as opposed to stretching my man pipes and grunting うまい!

  • @RelVleDy

Since a big hefty MAN coined it, I imagine it's ok for you to say it without sounding to girly.

  • I think it's actually pretty common. Ishizuka is probably one of the most famous kuishinbo talento nationwide. And he's really fat.

  • @bobbyjudo

Could be a regional thing. Everyone in Nagoya -- including the girls in this video -- say that it's kind of old fashioned now.

  • マンゴが美味しいそう

    jerase the "

    lol

  • ugh ur annoying how u talk over theam

  • @BubblezMUFFIN

I can only assume you're trolling or do not realize that it is my job to teach them English.

  • Yea! Ishi-san was at the Domanaka Matsuri a few weeks ago :p

  • @thegakuranman

    Did he say まいう?

  • @Gimmeaflakeman Not that I heard, but then he wasn't eating at the time ;).

  • カッコイイー. Victor, do you teach at college level, or is it a "private school" ?

  • @MATTCOSSIN

Own my own school. This was an open class -- which means it's a non-scheduled class that anyone who signs up (at the appropriate level) is free to attend.

  • LOL! i love how they said the word Maiu!!! haha made me laugh :s

  • @MANNY100123

    Yeah that was funny.

  • xD 1:22 The way she says "Meeeeeee." :DDD

  • Cute lol

  • まいう~ ^^

石塚英彦 - is the guy who coined this word :)
