Great to see those ole movies. The youth of today take so much for granted. Keep up the good work. I am a great fan of days gone by. That is why i am trying to get all the local film I can here in Armagh in N. Ireland. Keep it Rolling. Vincey From Ireland.
I wouldn't say this family was wealthy. My dad's family pooled their money in the 1930's to rent a cottage on Seneca Lake every summer and they were not wealthy! Each family spent one week there, the cost then was about $25 a week. We rented a cottage on Silver lake for $200 a week in the 1960s by saving all winter. Most of my snow shoveling money went into the "cottage fund", as we called it.
Excellent comment! Another thing . . . no matter how financially humble our ancestors were, they always dressed up to go out. Everybody had their "Sunday Best". People have seen old movies of my Grandparents and commented that they must have been wealthy just because they were well dressed. My Grandpa was a window salesman!
I have films of my family from the 30s just like this one, and have transfered the footage to vhs. Some of the people in the the films actually saw the vhs copy, but all have passed on by now. I was considering transfering to dvd, but no one can identify anyone now, the past is simply the past, kids now a days really live in the here and now, can't blame 'em.
My brother put all of our home movies on DVD and sent it to all the nieces and nephews. Believe me, it's worth it! The kids get a kick out it and they see that we too were once young and goofy. It's also a good chance for the kids to see great-uncles and great-aunts that they never knew, and to learn how they lived in the "old days". LOL!!
i think some "kids" still enjoy seeing what people did back then....I sure appreciate the "days of old"...wonder what their lives were like, who they loved who they lost....what their interests were....i cherish films like this....dont give up hope on the young generation, just yet.
at the bottom of the lake! (couldnt help myself on this chance)
amazing if this family is unidentifiable now.what happened? so is this all for naught? makes one wonder when they take their own family video.where will it be in 2065?
