Congrats on your Win! Moabartist and I were on the road when the Votes were tallied and results announced; thus our delayed Congrats. Great job; well made film. We were happy to win 1st Place Public Choice, and we're looking forward to more Film events in Utah! ~chris
Overall, this is a very nice looking film. It does seem like most of the contest criteria was added as an after thought or stuffed into a preconcieved idea. Not sure, if I were a judge, that I'd accept the digital write in of the phrase regarding the louvre--that and the dance/harmonica scene were sloppy in an otherwise smooth film.
Although I appreciate the feedback, I do have a few things to say. First of all you should know that we wrote everything within the 48 hours. I had been wanting to do a film noir type film before this festival. As for the Louvre phrase. The UAC only said that it had to have the phrase in the film, it never did say that it had to be a line of dialog. To say that you wouldn't accept it as a written line is kinda taking the rules into your own hands.
Thanks! It was a lot of fun and I had a great Cast and Crew to work with. It's so much easier to do something like this when you have a talented Cast.
Well that was a nice surprise! To see 3 people I know from different places all working together. Great film! Nice look and feel, good acting, just good all around. Makes me want to get to know and work with Adam. :-)
Did you guys use the line about the Louvre? We noticed there is writing on the wall of the train during the early conversation, but then it disappears. What does it say? Couldn't tell from the YouTube resolution. ~chris
The line about the Louvre is in there twice. Once in the beginning it is an add on the train wall, and then the second time is the time that you mentioned, on the wall during their conversation. We wanted it to be more visible but like you say, the YouTube compression made it a lot harder to see.
I liked the movie overall. The shots were great. The editing felt forced and choppy like we were cutting for the sake of cutting. The music allowed for longer cuts, but you cut anyway. Nice job. These critiques are meant to be helpful for the future. Way to go guys!
Thank you for your comments. Unlike some people I don't get offended when I get critiqued. One of the problems we had was the fact that we didn't get the music until we had the final cut done, and then there wasn't anytime to re-cut or we would have been late. I do plan on getting better music written and then submitting it to other festivals.
Great show--enjoyed the mood of it very much. I have to say the Harmonica was a bit out of place and discordant. Other than that, a great short film. Nice work! ~chris
We originally wanted to use a Guitar but couldn't find one by the time we started filming. Although, I though that the Harmonica added a bit of humor to two crazy guys dancing on the Trax platform.
I loved this movie. The sound and picture quality was amazing. I loved the jazzy city feel throughout the movie. It shook my emotions in under 5 minutes. My heart stopped when the lady pulled out the gun and shot that nice man. It is true you can't trust a stranger. Even if it is an innocent looking lady. I thought it was very well done!
I loved this movie. The sound and picture quality was great. I loved the jazzy city feel. It shook my emotions in just 5 minutes and that is hard to do. My heart stopped when the lady pulled out the gun and shot that nice man. You really can't trust a stranger even if it is an innocent looking woman. It thought it was very well done!
Oh, I see. Now my only concern is why those two dancing guys produce harmonica sounds. I mean if you really went to all the trouble of getting a musical instrument to be in the film, wouldn't you have gotten at least one shot of it? Maybe?
We thought about putting a shot of the harmonica in the film but decided that it would detract from the over all feeling of the movie. We also felt like seeing people doing weird things (like dancing) in down town Salt Lake is not really all that unusual of a sight. Who hasn't seen people being weird while riding the trax's?
The Trax is a public area and therefore you don't need a release. Who would sign the release if you filmed your movie on a street corner?
Looks like this contest is going to have some tough competition. Great cinematography. (if you'd like, tell me what you think of my group's film on my profile)
loved it.

Well . . . I wasn't expecting the ending. Nicely done! I liked viewing it in black and white, the jazzy music and loved the accent Sue.

Great short and clever twist. I'm also pleased to see how well the EX-1 did in low level lighting.

We actually started filming late Friday night, so there was a little rain while we were filming, but no snow. Thanks.
