  • i find whale watching MUCH more entertaining than the orca prisons we call seaworld

  • WOW!!! Just the most beautiful mammal on earth!!!

  • LUCKY, i always wanted to go to Washington and see Orcas in the Wild all though I already went Whale Watching in Cape May New Jersey! (twice)

  • I just went yesterday off of San Juan island and saw J-pod. My favorites are Granny, Doublestuff, and Ruffles :D

  • did u guys see those whales

  • gorgeous whales they are <3 they're so pretty and majestic. you're lucky to have seen them up close <3

  • Uhm Orca's are not whales. They are actually Dolphins. They even look like what they are dolphins.

  • they are called orca whales but they are a member of the dolphin family

  • @SWATutorials - They aren't called orca whales! It's either Orcas or Killer Whales or Orcinus Orca. Thats it. But they are a member of the dolphin family that you have right.

  • @canadianlattitude every dolphin is a whale (cetacea)

  • @canadianlattitude dolphins are a type of whale....

  • You must have been out with Eclipse Charters out of Orcas Landing.... I think I hear Captian Dan's voice in the video! I went out with them several times and always saw whales.

  • I went to orca island and didn't see any :(

  • This was beautiful! I had a similar experience in Alaska several years ago but not with THAT many orca! Thanks for sharing this.

  • Thats awesome! Ide love to see that!

  • What a priviledge. I would love to do that one day.

  • Oh luckys! i went whale watching and we saw 7 fin back whales and some seals, but orca's are way coolers!

  • Look at them! Incredible creatures, orcas are. ^^

    Great video!

  • Fantastic! How lucky you are that the Orcas came so close. We went 9 years ago and did a whale watching tour out of Orcas iIsland as well. We were told we would be from a distance too and had to have the engine shut off to watch. We stood on deck and was saddened that we could not get closer. Then my 4 year old daughter started to sing " Mary had a little lamb" When she did, Ruffles left the pod and came to investigate. He rose up out of the water like a submarine parked him self right

  • next to the boat not more than 6 feet away horizontal to the boat. When she stopped singing, he went back underneath and proceeded to circle and then went under the boat and came out on the other side and jumped up and made a huge splash for us! He then swam back to his pod. We were told that usually doesn't happen.

We were in awe and it was the highlight of our trip. What a memorable experience isn't it? We hope to take our son one day.

  • verry lucky!

  • would have loved to been there

  • WoW that was Amazing wasn't J-Pod Keiko's (Free Willy) Pod

  • How much did it cost to do this?

  • I had this experience once with A pod of the northern residents we had underwater close ups, tailslaps, and breach's WOW you had an awsome expeience aswell with J pod of the southern residents.

  • omg ! You are so luckey !! I want to see one orcka my self .. ! They have been in Norway some times but that is a long time ago.

  • wer was this at atlantic?

  • No, it was near the San Juan Islands, off the coast of Washington state, very near the USA/Canada border

  • @bingreethu Pacific ugh duh hint Washington is on the Pacific Coast

  • wow, that is truly amazing! i am hoping to visit seattle next spring break and go whale watching! what time of year was this? do you know if the spring time is a good time to go? like in march?

  • That was in May, I believe ... a week or two before Memorial Day. I'm not sure what season is best for whale watching, but the weather was nice at that time. I'm pretty sure at least one pod hangs around all year there.

  • @CourtneybCrawford

The best time to go is summer, like July or August. They usually don't come in until around May or June (and they don't stay in the inland waters very much in those months). However, if you're going to seattle then more towards late September or early October might be better, because that's when they generally spend more time around Puget Sound instead of around the Gulf Islands and the San Juan Islands

  • Must have been great!

  • most people think orca whale's are mammals.. yet contrary to this popular belief they are in fact amphibians ;)

  • Please explain, if not a joke?

They are mammals, even from taxonomy this is claimed

  • aaaaaaah im so jealous! they came sooo close that is so cool! i live by puget sound and i have always always wanted to see the J-pod! I've been to orcas island but never saw them :(

    this is an amazing video!

  • i went but not 06

  • I saw J1! Look out of a big bull with a wavy dorsal fin. He has been featured in most, if not all, of the Free Willy films. In the end credits of coarse.

  • i saw the j-pod as well ... very exciting

  • I love Ruffles his dorsal is so Identifiable!

  • wow, there is actually such a thing as Orcas Island?! cool.

  • awesome!!

  • WONDERFUL

  • This is how orcas are meant to be! Awesome video...I bet this was more enjoyable than seaworld!

  • hey i saw them!! is ruffles in there?

  • I think he's there at around 1:07

  • Hooray for wild orcas! I love the J-Pod!

  • I've seen J-pod before. They are sooo beautiful! I had a Grey Whale blow about 10 feet from the boat, I almost fell overboard. I was startled a bit. Truly an awsome expierience seeing these creatures! Makes me appreciate the Pacific Northwest that much more. Home sweet home!

  • great video

  • It still amazes me that these magnificent creatures are "trainable". That is mind boggling. Great footage.

  • I think he said "six feet tall" We were told that the dorsal fin of Ruffles, the big male, is 6' high. He's the big guy with the wavy edge on his fin.

  • amazing, awesome experience
