  • Hmmm and the final effect in case ? no ?

  • 4:07 DUST! hahaha

  • @WeirdoMikey2T Thats not dust...it's a ghost...LOL

  • Comment removed

  • what if it does'nt have a o-ring at the back?

  • @abgersaurus Some fans just pop off...some have o-rings and some do not. it will take a little force to get them off, put eventually the blades should just pop off....but proceed with caution as you can break it too...lol

  • It's not boring, it's fun to watch and to learn

  • Love watching his edit's, I always have to watch them more than 4 times .. and then come back later to watch it again at some point

  • Would it be a good idea to place news paper as apposed to a a grill? I think that would absorb any excess liquid that flows off from the fa blades??

I attempted to spray my fans and the results were very bad... uneven paint and blobs on the surface due to the paint dribbling down.

  • @MrGrandDragon Use several thin light coats.......the paint dripped because you put the paint on to heavy.

  • NICE VID WCM bout to paint some MAGMAs or TB silences Grabber green!

  • dont go back and forward just go back and forward :-p

  • that paints are transparent!! what brand is that??

  • @vl199 Testors...you can see it at 0:15

  • Thanks for the video, I wasnt sure if I could use Testors paint on PC parts or not. But I was going to try it out because they offer a lot of colors you cant get from regular spray paints. Now I know I can. :)

  • @iamaretard No problem...Glad this video helped.....Don't forget to sub, great new "how to" vids coming soon.

  • Great color. I wouldn't have expected the blades to be transparent after painting, but that looks great! Also nice idea with the "painting table". If I ever paint my fans, I'll do like you did, that seems to be an easy and clean method.

  • @Bonscha Thanks bro, yeah it took me awhile to find a transparent paint that would work.

  • I am not sure why you painted an orange fan.. orange again ???

  • @saiky3112 Are you colored blind? it went from orange to red...DUH!

  • nice sleeves! well done!

  • That's actually a pretty good idea, getting 2 of 'em this week too ^^

  • @WhiteHawk137 Cool...you will be happy with the Xigmatek fans.

  • great vid. thanks for sharing

  • @TeQuiiLaSHoTZz Thanks bro...appreciate your comment. Many more vids coming....Final vid on the Skull Crusher ( Corsair 800D case) coming this weekend.

  • Where can i see them on and spinning?

  • @TheNerdAdventures Unfortunately I had to put the Black Widow on hold due to client builds, so I never did a follow up vid, and really never finished it. However I do use it everyday as my main PC.

  • @MJBDC7 I have seen ppl use any type of paint, but I use a spray paint that is designed for plastics. You can find it at your local hardware store.

  • where did you get the sticker from ?

  • @HansensUniverse Go to Zazzle(dot)com

  • Smart! Like some one here has already mentioned.. it isn't smart to spray paint your fans, if you don't know what you are doing. But you haven't "painted them" you can still see true the fan, so you just changed the color. I like the way they turned out! Good luck with the web page and all!

  • @Botn3vik Thanks bro

  • @WestCoastMods

No prob. man. Doing some modding myself. Mostly on the Coolermaster Cases. Cosmos 1000, HAF, 922. Getting 2 HAF X cases in a week for some extreme water-cooling and modding, so I'm looking for some inspiration. And your work is inspiring.

    Botn3vik#

  • @Botn3vik Sounds good, personally I am not a fan of the HAF X case, IMO most case can have high air flow if you make the appropriate mods. And there are so many better looking case than the HAF X...just my opinion.

Also are you going to be posting any vids, if you have modded all those case's you should post your work, I would be interested to see what mods you have done.

Why is your channel unavailable? Do you hide it for a reason?

    LazyMan

  • @WestCoastMods

Hehe, Haven't posted any modding "movies" but got some project logs. The HAF X case is.. Special. But it got some great cooling. From what i have seen its one of the best cases for 4 way SLI or CF X. And that is what we are building.. two extreme systems. Fully watercooled and all. We are going to keep one stock and the other one we are going to give a full overhaul, New front, side panel, top. I think your going to like it. We should talk ideas one day!

    Botn3vik#

  • @Botn3vik Have you looked at Mountain Mods Ascension, then what about Lian Li case's and finally IMO the Thermaltake Armor Plus is a better choice that the HAF X, but again just my opinion.

Where can I find you project logs, and you can post a picture montage to YouTube.

    Why is you Channel unavailable!

  • @WestCoastMods My channel is closed because i closed it :P I used to do some reviews, motherboards, gpu's and such. But i have shut the program down. It was to much for me. Thermaltake... i don't like. It just seem so plastic. If you get it? Lian Li!!, i have built super computers in the PC-X2000 GREAT case! but to expensive for the mod i'm doing now. You see i am Norwegian. I'm starting up the first Watercooling web shop in Norway. And we need some flashy computers to use in marketing.

  • @Botn3vik How are you able to leave comments if you closed your YT account?

Anyway if your worried about plastic then what about the HAF X doesn't it have a lot of plastic. also I am doing a 4way build in the Lian Li PC P80 case at the moment, several vids on modding the case, have you seen them. Anyway this is going to be a pretty extreme build at 10k USD, thats why we have named it

    The Big 10k Kahuna

  • @WestCoastMods

We are getting everything sponsored. So i don't know what the builds would be worth. But 15-20k maybe. With all six monitors and such. Yeah i have followed your mods, and builds. I haven't closed the Youtube acc. Just the channel. ^^ Yeah there are some parts of the HAF that is plastic, But its mat black. dosent give it away as much as the "piano glassy black" that Thermaltake uses. But the case that we are modding is going to get some new aluminum parts. I like Aluminum! Hehe

  • i dont get it.. i dont get the fan out of the houseing :(

  • @Kinsteere Are you having trouble removing the fan blades from the housing? all you need to do is use a little bit more pressure...with this fan that is, some other fans are different. So if you have this fan, put a little more pressure, but not so much that you damage the fan and you so be fine.

  • well it can throw it off balance for one making it vibrate like crazy, if you get any one the shaft you can make it slower, you could also mess up the a way the leds reflect off of it . It's really just a bunch of different things that you can do to it.

  • @blakeyon2asd I guess all those things are possible, but I have never experience any of them, and I have been doing this for years.

    Cheers

    LazyMan

  • @WestCoastMods Maybe your just really good at what you do.

  • @blakeyon2asd Thanks, but I don't think it's that.........as it is fairly easy to do, as long as one takes their time and use's simple precautions, they shouldn't have any problems.

  • but why would you want to paint xigmatek fans get some cheap ones to paint not ones that are already nice

  • @blakeyon2asd Because they are orange and I wanted them to be red. And what do you mean get some cheap ones...I don't use cheap anything in my builds.

  • @WestCoastMods Well I meant you can get some fans that are the same cfm and db level for a lot less so why would you spend 13 bucks on each fan when your just going to mod it anyway?

  • @blakeyon2asd Well be cause when I had originally bought the Xigmatek's the plan was not to paint them, but after realizing I didn't like the orange blades and white leds, so I decided to paint them and change out the leds for red ones. Also as you saw in the video I used a translucent paint which still allowed the fan blades to be translucent, which allows the led to spread out more light than just in one area. Also just because a fan has the same CFM doesn't mean that it is of the same quality

  • @WestCoastMods Yes and I realize that just because they have the same cfm and db rating there not of the same quality but it really doesn't matter to me I was just saying what I would do. I have built a bunch of computers also and I've never recommend that anyone paint over a high quality fan just because all of the things that can happen to it. But they do look good I just would have went a different route

  • @blakeyon2asd With all due respect, what are all the thing that can happen to it...if you know what you're doing then it's no harder than brushing your teeth.

  • I also managed to take apart my other fans also.

  • @1mc001 Thats great, now time to paint those babies..

  • Hey, Could you do a tut for a avc FAN. THERE NO RUBBER BIT. THNX

  • @1mc001 Yeah, unfortunately not all fans are the same. I am not familiar with you fan, is this a fan on a stock heatsink? Some fans may not have the ability to separate without damaging them and others allow you to simple pull the fan from the housing without removing anything. Some manufactures make it easy for one to remove the blades for easier cleaning.

Not having your fan, I will not be able to tell you if it's even possible.

Sorry that I can't be of more help

    LazyMan

  • @WestCoastMods Yes it is on the heatsink, but I don't think it is able to be taken apart, I shall just leave it the colour it is, maybe I can buy a pecoloured fan in the future. but not to worry, thanks for the help. :)

  • you can make a paint booth cheep. with some plastic air filters and a fan. wet the floor be for painting. you can make them as big or small as needed.

  • Thanks for the vid LazyMan! Just painted 2 Xigmatek 120mm fans with the Testors paint! Also I did your Rhoebus Extreme Fan Controller LED mod but have painted the acrylic knobs with the Testors Candy Apple Red for a better look on the front of my HAF932. May also paint the CM 230mm Stock Fans as well! Thanks again for these great vids!

  • @2stent Glad these vids have helped you. It's always inspiring seeing others use my vids to accomplish there vision. Nice touch on painting the knobs, I bet they look great.

Did you notice if you put the paint on to thick you will lose the transparent look. I went through several different paints trying to find one that would still remain transparent after it dried, and what I noticed with the Testor paint if I sprayed it lightly, but still with full coverage it preserved the transparent look.

  • @WestCoastMods -Yes agree you have to keep the paint light. There is almost no change in the color or brightness of the knobs after the Red LED mod when lit. My theme is red and black and the front mesh is red with the case header painted red and black - the knobs really blend nicely when not lit. Thanks again to you for finding the right paint.

  • It's not a boring video.. If I was painting my fans and didn't know that I musn't paint the rod for the fan I would've painted it too lol :D

  • @TheUltimateAddict Thanks, glad it helped you.

  • Your a genious haha toilet paper rolls? how did u come up with that lol

Using your videos to do my very very first computer build, tired of this old laptop he-he.

  • @TheSympathon Well it was late one night tossing and turning in bed as usual, like a drug addict all wired up and bammm! the light goes off and there you have it a toilet paper roll to the rescue...lol

  • yeah and hope U make a vid og the widow when its done:-) it looks to cool:-)

Btw i bought some of those xigmatek fans, just the other colour and they changed them so now they have that small ring on the back, i almost broke one:-P

  • @badenielsen Wow I didn't know that, thank for the heads-up. Also are you talking about a window mod and me doing a vid?

  • oh man, how come you didnt show the final results by turning on the fans? ) :

  • @SolidSnake002 Yeah, you're absolutely right, I can't believe I didn't show them running. I have a new vid coming soon showing how to change out the LED's on the fan, so then I will show them running.

    Thanks for your suggestion

    LazyMan :-)

  • I love fan mods, it's one of the funniest and easiest mods anyone can do. Great job explaining how to disassemble the fan housing. Thanks for this vid LazyMan

    RonleeC

  • @RONLEEC1 Thanks bro, this is so basic, especially to someone with the skill set as you have. I am going to do a vid on how to change out the LED's here soon. actually I have my next 6 vids all figured out, but I just don't seem to have the time to pull out the camera. I have lately been getting a lot of client work, which is very time consuming.

  • Great vid...I just got one question. It was really weird to see such an anal perfectionist like you not to sand and prime your paint surfaces, like many others suggested. I've never painted anything in my life, so I'm obviously no aothority here. Are those other guys wrong or this step is not needed?

  • Always sand and prime, absolutely. I would never paint anything without preparing the surface first by sanding and primering. UNLESS you're trying to achieve a translucent effect, which I was, so had I sanded and sprayed them with primer there goes the translucent effect.

    Cheers

    LazyMan :-)

  • @WestCoastMods

Wow, I had no freakin' idea. Thanks.

  • LOL, it all makes sense know doesn't it.... :-)

    Cheers bro!

  • a piece of chicken wire?...hahaha, I didn't know that. You're funny! :-D

  • Yeah you never heard it called that......It's very similar to the wire mesh that farmers make chicken coops with.

  • Case modding is for nerds!!!!

Lights and pretty colors won't make your computer go any faster mang!! J/k, it does!

  • @SeikoPsycho Are you kidding, after painting the fans red, they spun much faster than when they were orange. lol

With all the weed, opium and coke you do you think you would like pretty colors.

  • haha cool video, not boring!

  • Thanks, one of my next vids eill be how to change the LED's in the Xigmatek fan.

  • Nice looking fans

  • Thanks bro!

  • great video ! 5* go on !

  • Thanks bro, I will be showing how to change the LED's on the same fans soon.

    Cheers

    LazyMan :-)

  • i would like to see those running =)

have 3 of those too and also 3 120mm ;)

    pretty cool and silent =D

  • I will be doing a vid soon showing them not only painted but how to change the LED's out. I changed all the white ones for red ones.

    Cheers

    LazyMan :-)

  • Xigmatek Fans are pretty damn good!! only 16dBA!!!

  • Yep, I have a vid coming soon on how to change the LED's in the Xigmatek fan.

    Cheers

    LazyMan :-)

  • these fans cost 13 bux

  • want to see them IN the case ^^

  • Decided to change out the LED's to red, will be doing a vid soon, and it will show how they look inside the case. before and after

    Cheers

    LazyMan :-)

  • awesome video as always!!!

  • Thanks bro!

  • with the amount of work you have put into the Black Widow, I don't think that you can call yourself LazyMan

  • LOL :-)

  • Excellent video, as always 5/5*

  • Thanks bro!

  • damn, this is something I've allways wanted to try but too afraid to screw up the fan somehow... I didnt know it was so damn easy!

Time to mod the fans in my CM scout!

  • Cool, glad this video has helped you.

    Happy Modding

    LazyMan :-)

  • sweet and simple. good job bro. 5/5*

  • Thanks bro!

  • easily the best on youtube

  • easily the best on youtube

  • Bro, you're just to kind!

  • awesome paiting tips!!!

  • Thanks

  • I would have never known it was orange, flawless paint job LZ!

    Cheers.

  • Yeah sometimes they even looked a little red to me too. until I actually put it next to a red one. I must be a little color blind. lol

  • great paint job ! turned out nice & red

  • Thanks bro!

  • I don't know if this is an issue or not, but if you happen to not paint the fans evenly, do they spin fast enough that they may not be balanced anymore? (noise/vibration) Just a "quick" video huh? :)_

  • nothing will happen, they are not so precise

  • I've read and heard that it won't hinder the fan nor it's RPM. However common sense tells me that if not painted evenly or as evenly as possible it will have some effect. I should have mentioned that in the video.

    Good question

    LazyMan :-)

  • Also pretty awsome cable managment! respect! I want that rig! xD

  • Thanks Leo!

  • Awsome ^^,

  • Lovely tutorial !

    thnx a lot !

i guess ill start painting a few left over scythes i have now :D

  • I'm glad this video has inspired you to do some fan painting yourself.

  • I used the same paint for the side panels for the Gateway Project I have going on right now. Going for a marbled look. That candy apple red looks great. I didn't realize how good of a job it would do on those types of fans. 5*'s

  • Cool, i will have to check out you vids again.

  • Silly question: why do paint spray cans have balls in them?

  • It is to help stir the paint in case the stuff inside of the can settles/separates

  • As you already know now, the ball inside of the spray can is to help mix everything up. A spray can, just like paint in a 1gal cans needs to be mixed well to blend all the components. however some spray cans may not have the ball inside them. some primers and clear coats come to mind. But still shake the can vigorously for 2-3mins.

  • LOL @ the jibberish

awesome video, nice job on the fans too :)

  • Yeah, my tongue got all tied up just trying to say toilet paper roll. lol

  • dont do your self a disservice, your vids are everything but boring

  • Thanks Caveman!

  • Nice! I like the Black Widow stickers! 5/5

  • Thanks Marland!

  • where did you get the stickers

  • Online at a company called Zazzle, check them out.

  • I love the sticker idea. Awesome work!!!

  • Thank you bro!

  • Hah nice, a lot less hassle.

  • very nice!!

  • Thanks

  • the orange lets anything coat over it with no problems?

couse im gonna steal a idea from yu and mcpctech and combine em in to my own then.

im going to make a transparent turbine fan in front of my haf932. surrounded by mesh casing

  • Well not anything, I tried to different types of paint and it made them opaque, losing the transparency. Good luck with your project

    LazyMan :-)

  • blablablablablablabla LOL xDDDDDDDD

  • hehe

  • these fans do they come in 100% transparent?

  • nope, orange or blue

  • No, they only come in transparent orange. But know we know we can paint them any color of you like.

  • Man, I REALLY wish I either postponed my project or something until this video came out. I have my CoolerMaster R4s which don't have the rubber plug along with my Xigmatek fans and I had no idea how to remove the fans so resoldering LEDs in the R4's proprietary housing was a P.I.T.A. Also needed to drill holes on my 120mm Xigmatek's so they could house 5mm LEDs but wasn't too confident in drilling the holes without applying too much pressure and damaging the fan blades. Thanks though. 5 starred.

  • Yeah it took me a while to figure it out myself, my 120mm Xigmatek had a keeper ring and a rubber plug on the back. Well at least you know now for the next time.

  • Lazyman, look at the dust particle float across when u finish talkin about dust at 4:09 xD

  • Don't see them, but I'm on a terrible monitor at work, will check it out when I get home from work tonight.

  • That would be sweet, but I think I need to work my regular job so I can afford this hobby. But you never know, maybe someday down the road.

  • Some folks might think this video is boring--I bet most of 'em are the same folks that are drooling over the rig. It's the extra...20 miles...lol ..that you go on your mods that make the rig what it is.

  • Thanks Adam, appreciate your kind words and your moral support!

  • Thanks Buddy!

  • I love these fans too, bro

  • Thanks Bill, The Xigmatek fans have a good balance between airflow and noise.

    63.5 CFM @ 16dBA

    Appreciate your support!

    LazyMan :-)

  • Cool. 5/5

Did you make those Black Widow stickers or did you order them to be made from somewhere?

  • No I actually ordered them on line at a website called Zazzle. You can design them right on their website, and are pretty inexpensive. I also ordered a couple of hats and a shirt with the WCM logo. They were very expensive, looking for another vendor that's more cost effective.

    Check them out

    LazyMan

  • its not boring

  • Thanks bro

  • somuch for the savety on the backside :P no gloves! (not that the paint is really agressive) just picked up that front side you did use gloves

  • Yeah, I had the gloves on when I painted the front side only because I used them when I was wiping down the fans with the tack cloth. The tack cloth will leave a sticky substance on your hands and also I didn't want to get any necessary finger prints on the fans while cleaning them.

    Good observation

    LazyMan :-)

  • TESTIES PAINT :P

    those are pretty moddable fans

  • LOL!

  • Awesome videos keep them coming.

  • Thanks

  • very nice work mate 5 star

  • Thanks for rating and commenting.

  • i actually have that exact paint in my garage

    haha

  • Excellent paint, I will be using Testor brand again.

  • Nice vid! and length is not a problem for the one who wishes to learn

  • Thanks, If I accept the partner offer that YT sent me I will be able to make longer vids, which will be nice because sometimes I run over by a minute or two and half to split the video.

  • i remember i was taking out the antec 120mm fan out and i accidently broke it and then i was like oh well threw it out lol

  • That sucks, most 120mm fans have a rubber plug with a keeper ring to hold the fan blades on.

  • No. It wasn't boring at all. I was wondering if you could paint translucent fans and you answered that question. Thank you!

  • Thanks bro, yeah the Testor paint was the only translucent paint that I found that worked. Tried two other types with no luck, almost gave up till I found the Testor brand.

    Cheers

    LazyMan :-)

  • Some very good painting tips.

I like the design with no clip that would make it easy to switch blade colors in a snap.
