The real service to your country begins when you stand up and tell the truth of the Iraq occupation. They didn't fight in vain.. the war showed how corrupt and greedy those in power are. Speaking out against wars that are fought for money is the best way to support the troops. Many of them have developed a moral compass much stronger than anyone that's just living a humdrum life. If this song indirectly endorses the war: you are attributing to the deaths of those soldiers.. so FUCK YOU

I think coming home was worse than fighting over there Vietnam.

My uncle is 40, or almost 40. We live in Ohio & he is in the National Guard. He is currently deployed in Washington D.C. to guard the president's air space/White House. He is down there for a year. I am so proud to call him my uncle, thank you for fighting for our country Uncle Gayle! Also, in honor of my grandpa, a Vietnam Veteran, that passed away a couple of days ago. December 3, 1947-October 28, 2011. SUPPORT OUR TROOPS.
Thanks to the writer and singer of this song. Means a lot. I was a USN Hospital Corpsman for 20 years. Retired just after The first Gulf War. My unit came home to a vigorous welcome at the main gate. Thought it was touching, there were many more to follow us that day. The memory of my brothers who were disrespected, dishonored and reviled by this nation from the Viet Nam era was also with me then cause I was just a young un first in and saw some of the repatriated men and women retuning to us.
Those that were young when Vietnam was happening don;t know what it waslike back then. I signed up for the Marine Corps to service my country, what I got was just like the song says, spit at and called evil, nasty names. Even so, I thank God that I live in these United States and that I had a chance to give back to all she has given me.

Specialist davis here I did 2 tours both 18 months not many songs tear me up but this one sure did so I would like to say thank you for putting this up. I heard it a few years ago on satellite radio and it's rory feek but you won't find it I've been lookin everywhere for it I think maybe he sung it for a tribute or something cause I can't even find it in his list of songs. Specialist davis here I did 2 tours both 18 months not many songs tear me up but this one sure did so I would like to say thank you for putting this up. Out makes me realize how blessed I am to have made it home. I never got a soldiers welcome and after listening to this song I feel like I just did. Thank you. My husband is in Afghanistan...this made me tear up. My pap was in nam, he never got the welcome my husband and our friends get when they come home, but I'm so proud of my pap for living through that he'll so Thera wouldn't have to. I love our soldiers and though I may not know them all personally, I want the family of every active duty soldier and every vet to know. I love you, and am so proud to say thank you for your sacrifices.

whoever disliked this, has no heart. i cries listening to this song making me think of my brother. he just left for afghanistan and i miss him dearly and i wish i could say, welcome home, but i have to wait a 1 year to see him. not much, but its still hard

i lost my best friend and a huge part of our family in iraq, he saved my cousin and me, thanks to him my cousin is alive and im alive, he wanted to do what he does best, keeping people safe, i just wish he made it home, the army is my future, im enrolling in the army in a year and 10 months its were i belong

wow... amazing song. My dad is a soldier and was gone for 2 years a couple years ago. I remember it was when I was younger and he broke the news to my lil bro and I by saying he had to go to protect us and fight for us and everyone else in America. He might be going back but we don't know for sure yet. Whatever is in God's will.
