tarja's tone is very unappealing to me, in fact I dislike it so much that I cant even listen to nightwish...however she is the most talented out of the group...although it seems like all her singing is just trying to be as high and hard as possible. I don't like floor...simone is great, but she's really only great when the autotuner corrects her voice. charlotte is my favourite because she sings on an album like she would live, she doesn't create vocals she is unable to sing.

Have you heard of Within Temptation? They use choir and orchestra on all of their albums except their first one, "Enter", which had a Gothic sound to it. They're great. Evanescence is great too, though they don't use as much choir as Within Temptation.

Within Temptation only started to use orchestra in TSF ;) "Mother Earth" you hear keyboard arrangements. I don't know how the choir makes Within Temptation good in any way, when they're definately one of the worst bands in rock genre with female vocals nowadays. Opinions I guess... If you like choir listen to Krypteria, they use them 100x more than WT :)

I love the sounds of these bands Nightwish, Within Temptation, etc. The sounds are amazing. But as far as symphonic bands go Savatage was the first to bring together the raw metal with symphonic sounds in their music and others picked up on it. Most sites that feature melodic music bands note this. I think its awesome sound!

That´s cause NW was one of the first symphonic metal bands and it still is the best. I think it was Therion who started this style. Still, no band can compete with NW, cause they have Tuomas. But i love Edenbridge too!!!

oints are all messed here. I'm an American, and have been listening to Euro music for years and i Love it. From my point of view, Nightwish (Post Tajra, i haven't heard their new cd yet) Has an more Dark operatic Metal feel that shivers my bones all the time. Edenbridge is more along the lines of Adventure, Metal, kinda like it's gonna guide your heart in the right Direction. Their 2 different styles of metal and their Both great, now figure out the comparison of "Epica".

Edenbridge does compare very favorably to Nightwish, and I think that their new album, in which they plan to have a full 65 piece orchestra for 9 out of 10 tracks, will be even closer to the majestic sound of old Nightwish.

That said, Edenbridge isn't Nightwish. Sabine's voice is lighter and clearer than Tarja's, and Lanvall's music generally isn't quite as complex as Tuomas'.
