until this I've only heard the Newtown Neurotic's cover version, and they called it "Living With Unemployment," and they changed the lyrics a little. Now that I'm finally hearing the original Members version, I this one better.
@misternylon yeah i found it on here once... probably the same night i commented on this one. i'll look for it again... or i could UL it. what was the single on the A-side? offshore banking business or no?
btw has anyone heard the spoofy of this song LIVING WITH UNEMPLOYMENT?
@squiggyklane I did have a copy of offshore banking business yeah I seem to remember that the paper label was green on one side and red on the solitary confinement side? something like that. It had a gold cover with the palm tree and money logo on.
At 9 years old I had no idea what a 40 inch bust was though, well maybe some idea, I just knew it had to be good.
atiuma papakura highschool sametime dads old suit jacket haveing a ball the pogo I had this song flood my head last week while toiling at work remembered the lyrics word or word after all these years what does that tell you Loved it
This was my favourite song from the Punk era. the version I have is the B side of Offshore Banking Business. My only regret is that I never saw them live. I can't recall them playing a gig in South Wales. I tell you I got it sussed, she's got a 40 inch bust, and she's just, CHAMPION !! Thanks pal, for posting classic.
I saw these boys loads of times. I assume your Welsh. Me and Geoff saw them at the Railway Hampstead loads of times and the Marquee. I've got the singles on vinyl apart fom this one which some bastard never gave me back. The B-side is Rat up a drainpipe. I've been trying for 15 years to get a vinyl copy.!!!!!
Did the members do this originally or did Newton Neurotics ? There is also an Oppressed version on the music for hooligans album (which I believe are all covers)
@mixwell1983 I know thismay be a bit late but this song(by the Members) appeared on the 'Streets' comp by Beggars Banquet' records firsT LP in 77/early 78 ish

I always loved that song - as much as I hate this re-recorded mainstream-version! The original 7'' recording sounds much better. It was the first record ever released by the independent STIFF lable. But anyway, nice to hear it again. Thanks for posting.
The first release on Stiff was "So It Goes" by Nick Lowe. That was released in 1976 whereas The Members didn't release their first single until 1978. You're probably thinking of this being on the "One Off" series of releases by Stiff.
@zoltepp09 I thought 'I love the sound of breaking glass' by Nick Lowe was the first 7' on Stiff (it's 'buy1' I thought)
I could be wrong and will resist trhe urge to check the label number. Whatever, I don't want to get drawn/draw you into a 'geek ruck' with me :O) it's a great tune whatever number it is.
anyone got the 12 inch B side 'Every day is a holiday' Fantastic track
12 inch long version is a balltearer
