I have a simple message for ABBA if I can say: this represent the purety of what you have meant for a generation of people you have influenced over the years. Please do not focus on your personal problems or interactions just focus on the good you have brought to people who have loved and enjoyed your music and lyrics over the years. Be proud of yourselves but don't think about the negative issues that has tainted your beautiful accomplishments:-))
Played this song for my mother a year befor she died. She askd me to get the album and loved all the songs, esp Fernando. She said "every day with Abba, is a good day" Now im so glad i got it for her
Where's that stupid british blond journalist from the 'a is for abba' documentary? where is she now? i want her to see this and say with a straight face that Frida was not beautiful, that her hair was ugly, and that she looked like Agnetha's grandmother!! This gorgeous porcelain doll.
how can i not love this song when i see my perent's loving it, seeng them singing with them makes me whant to record them so that i can remember this forever
@jorgeoscar1000 it's not a communist song, but about two veterans who lost battle during the mexican revolution. that revolution was against a tyrant, Porfirio Diaz, and gave birth to the mexican constitution, so pretty much a democratic movement. And even if it was communist, isnt it beautifull enough to avoid the 'but'. Probably you are from a country that hates communism, i personally think is a terrible economic system, and reject it on such grounds, but i dont see it as 'evil'.
1975 meu melhor amigo na época com apenas 18 anos nos deixou desse mundo pra fazer parte do conjunto de estrelas do céu....saudades Fernando onde estiver
I know as a dedicated Rocker, I am supposed to hate groups like ABBA , but I can't tell a lie: I LOVE ABBA!! Always have, always will. It is a guilty pleasure to hear the Swedish supergroup!!
My recollection of Abba is very blurd as compared to the Beegees and Beatles. But my aunt was crazy about Abba. Specially on the love story that transpired between the 4 of them, which I didn't remember very well. This song intrigues many people, as to what War they are talking about. Rio Grand could suggest it's not in Asia but still lots of people think it's about an American soldier from the Korean war.
@dantetemple There are only two wars that I can remember involving the Rio Grande, The Mexican American War, and in 1917 ( I believe) when Pancho Villa raided the US across the Rio Grande. I have no idea why a Swedish group would be singing about either of those though.
@Deej1125 you better keep your life back there,,,, like south of the river!!!! YOU DON'TM KNOW abba'.
LET ME TELL YOU united state of northamerica ,,, are not longer the center of the world.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!it never was.and regarding music and culture as a whole.... you don't have a record.
@frestolcol South of what river? I have known ABBA since the 70's. Can you read English, or are you just drunk? Either way you are making no sense whatever.
I love ABBA, their songs are so beautiful and sweet. :D Fernando is by far my favorite, and it's really quite nice in Spanish too. :DDD ABBA ROCKS. Hehe
Still can't believe that a bunch of Swedes, who are not really that known in the world for having good taste, were able to come up with such beautiful melody.
Thanks for the history in the description. Each of the girls could sing on their own ability, but the harmony/sound they produced was unique and incredible,
I was part of ABBA in the 70's but they kicked me out of the group. My name starts with "E", so we were called ABBAE, but that didn't sound too hip, so they threw me out and changed the name to ABBA. I should be getting royalties from this music.
One of the all time greats. Feel so nostalgic seeing it live on Youtube. I think one of the greatest things to happen is internet. It is bringing back our childhood days. keep it up. God bless you guys
There was a time when I was young and life was an endless opportunity to find my dreams. Then something happened between my childhood and manhood, OLD AGE. I never knew why time seemed to vanish and all the dreams never to be realized. So if you are young follow your dreams but don't forget to live your dreams
Avete ragione- veramente fantastici., sempre piu belle.

Beautiful, profound lyrics; very nice performance. I love this song and play it myself, and get the chills every time on " now we're old and gray Fernando, and since many years I haven't seen a rifle in your hand, can you hear the drums, Fernando?" That can be sung and played with such passion.
Fernando, es una cancion dedicada a los mejicanos que cruzan arriesgando sus vidas el Rio Bravo para U.S.A. Ponganle cuidado a la letra. Ellos sabían la situacion de muchos inmigrantes que corren para un mejor futuro. It"s a great song and great lyric.
This video is needlessly restricted so that it cannot be viewed on smart phones or tablets. This restriction is pointless: An iPhone has the same playback as an iPod. Stop these needless restrictions!
@aluzzz000 - The only solo ABBA song is Frida in "Like an angel passing through my room" so in EVERY song there are two beautiful voices singing including Agnetha's leads just like this is Frida's lead.
@1agnethafan Both Agnetha and Frida meet the highest world class separately but as you may know, is Agnetha my girl. She has something more that makes me melt like ice cream in sunshine. Anyway (sorry), it couldn't have been easy for Bjorn and Benny to write songs with a fair distribution between Agnetha and Frida, considering their different voices to have the lead BUT now we know that they did an incredible job!!
@20musicislife05 Finally!! I have been waiting for some genius to come up with that comment so congratulations, you're the first my friend! You have completely missed the point. Is there anywhere in this world of stress and chaos you can live in a bubble, it's here, in YouTube's own little world.
First it was The Mamas & Papas, followed by ABBA and then Ace of Base! Almost like three generations of very similar groups progressing through time! Loved them all and wish they were still around, especially Ace of Base!
This song intrigued me. As a boy in the 70's I thought the song referred to World War II and I imagine my father and my uncles who were young boys back then and were middle aged in the 70's. But now hearing the song again I think it refers to a different war. I'm curious what war this song is talking about.
@InkoIning Probably the Mexican War with USA in 1846. A battle on April 25 was won by Mexico north of the Rio Grande. Mexico was much weaker, however, and lost this needless war. In any case this is a great song with the beautiful close harmony. Even though it is probably their biggest hit, it's unusual in that Frida sings lead and it's Agnetha with the rich alto. No group will ever match Abba.
@InkoIning I think this refers to The Alamo with the lyric about crossing the Rio Grande, but I'm certainly not sure! OR, it could be about Pershing chasing Pancho Villa in 1914/15? Very intriguing to be sure!
Down to earth, that's what they were in those days. They made beautiful music which we all like and always turned out with lovely costumes. The Australians I met here in UK all loved ABBA and I went with some of them to see Abba for the last time at Wembley Arena in 1979. I remember too the TV footage of Abba's Aussie Tour in 1976 - fantastic it was. There was a heatwave over the UK that year and the Montreal Olympics was also on, just lovely memories now.
@MAinsworth0375 i agree, i just wish some body would tell them that what is going on today is not music, they are being mislead, thank god for at least 50 yrs. of real musical talent, 30's to 80's.
I'm a hardcore Soul music fan,but these folks have captivated me for years. These 2 women sing like Angels, and that makes this old devil happy. What beautiful voices!!
this was an era when lyrics actually mattered, look at their style of dress and listen to their lyrics. nowadays, you have to look with a magnifying glass to see the artist clothing and lyrical context. long live Abba 's music.
Mi piace molto, musica cosi certo non la sentivo da anni mi da le emozioni........brividi sulla pelle, tutta la musica di quelli anni,mi ricordo anni di scuola bellissimooooooooooooo
Thank you for the interesting info below the song!!!

@20musicislife05 Finally!! I have been waiting for some genius to come up with that comment so congratulations, you're the first my friend! You have completely missed the point. Is there anywhere in this world of stress and chaos you can live in a bubble, it's here, in YouTube's own little world.

ABBA has beatiful songs and very crazy kostumes :)
In the songs of ABBA we can feel they heart, our live and a lot of other important things.

@Cort1963 Get your facts straight.
And try to get the real history, not only the one that is been said in the US.

There was a heatwave over the UK that year and the Montreal Olympics was also on, just lovely memories now.

this was an era when lyrics actually mattered, look at their style of dress and listen to their lyrics. nowadays, you have to look with a magnifying glass to see the artist clothing and lyrical context. long live Abba 's music.
