All the horses are bright eyed and wearing their ears, must not be too unhappy! Id rather that than my mediocre dressage horse lugging me around the arena! Nothing like a saddle horse looking through the bridle, wearing its ears, and trotting like a train down the rail!
There is nothing wrong with this American Saddlebred! They are in my opinion much prettier than those half dead Morgans all of ya'll trot around and try to look like saddlebreds! This is all natural and all of you haters that say this is un-natural, you might as well not comment because this is what they are bred to do and your just jealous. Also saddlebreds are known for there loving personalties, bravery, trail-rides, so watch your mouths before you say something that you have no clue about!
Nothing on this horse is broken or deformed :) This is our breed! Fixy and fancy! Much like a Doberman, Great Dane or boxer get their ears clipped, most saddlebreds bet their tails clipped and set.
oh...good grief! A long back comes from breeding. A sway occurs either later in life due to the aging process of the topine/spine or earlier in life genetically.
a small ligament is clipped to create a set tail. Nothing is broken.
Their backs only look longer because they get so swaybacked from the way they are trained and ridden, And yes, most of them do have their tails broken and set up...
You know...I didn't even realize that all the photos I purchased of him, his right leg is up! There are plenty of great left ones...very observant of you! Love the attention to detail....want a job ;)
I love this horse... I showed this vid to my brother and he laughed at his tail, because he's been taught to carry it so high, it's practically vertical!
He's gorgeous... I swear all the pictures of him have his front right leg up.. And ONLY his front right leg?
How come a lot of peopl are saying this horse is "unatural"? this a stunning, beutifull, and very natural horse. The people who breed this horse should be very proud. I would be :)
Then you are blind by all sense of the word. Get out of the forums and go meet one of these horses in real life. You can't force this level of performance, it's all good breeding, good handling, good conditioning and having the heart of a champion! This horse is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen!
And exactly this is the point! Humans breed and breed and do not think about if what they do is good for an animal or if it's bad, they just do it because they find it beautiful. and not only with horses, it's the same with other animals, dogs for example. i just can't endorse all this overbreeding.
and nobody can tell me that this horses posture is good for the horse...
And people who breed their cats or dogs or horses in their backyard because they think that their pet is cute should not be endorsed, but professional breeders who are in fact breeding for the best quality, soundness and most viable of their animals are doing the right thing by only breeding exceptional specimens like this horse here. There is a major difference in breeding for numbers versus quality. Expensive as it may be, it is better for the species.
Breeding for what quality? so they can raise their legs three meters high? running with a low back and the head up like a giraffe? and what about the horses tail what is this...thing? i just don't think that this is good for the horses... it can not be healthy to run like this... i mean it's so unnatural! have you ever seen a horse running like this? that is as if i you would run on your hands or something.....
So we can't breed our horses to pick up their feet but others can breed theirs to jump 5 feet, lope so slow they look like they're lame, or run as fast as possible? Low-backed horses can happen in any discipline, head-uppyness is a trait like huge feet on a draft horse and the tail doesn't cause any harm when done correctly. I see horses run like this all the time, turn any saddlebred or arab loose in a field and he'll show you.
this horse is gorgeous and the rider is doing a great job. you people need to learn a thing or too about horses, this is what they are bred for, theres nothing cruel about it. this horses back is probably about 75% longer than the ponies you guys are talking about, dont make ridiculous comments unless your educated on the subject.
:) Thanks! Education is key to understanding our breed. This particular horse is very young. He is only four years of age here. At times, to balance the trot, I would have to "sit" my post to keep him balanced. He was breed to have a very animated trot. He wears a very very light shoe with no weight. The "long" curb, is not actually long at all, it is rather standard. And just because you have a curb, doesn't mean you have to use it. it is only there if you need it.
You have to understand every breed is different. I don't go around commenting on hunt seat riders, even though I think they look silly. I also don't attack their standards of show. There is nothing cruel about a horse "wearing" it's bridle! When I watch jumping, there are maybe a few that don't try to spit the bits and totaly disrespect their riders. Show Material is a mannerly, game, athletic horse that demonstrates control and grace.
Now I understand, why we do not want here all American conditions! Where I come, that is punishable! that is cruelty to animals! OMG! The poor horse. Where did this woman learn to ride? This seat!!!! An this extra long bit !!!!That would be here in Germany inconceivable!!! sorry vor my bad english
How is this abusive? I find the lady to be a pretty good rider. The saddle is made exlra long to allow the horse to move his shoulder blades to have that high stepping trot. The bits arn't long, they don't harm the horses
@herewefly I ride icelandic horses and they need also a free shoulder to go a good tolt, but we don't sit at the croup of the horse. (also because it hurts them because of their nephritic (dunno if thats the right word, I had to look it up)
And I don't know why she does it, but she sits on the horse as if she would be sitting on a chair?!
Also she falls at every step of the horse in its back. Can't be good also.
Ok, I see your point, but we don't sit on the crop (she might, but most don't). It doesn't hurt the hrose, because I ride saddleseat and he is fine, but yes her post is a little off
I love this horse! I wish I had the money, I would buy him in a heart beat. Every time I get on youtube to look up horses I always stop on this one! Gorgeous!
Thanks for all the wonderful comments everyone has made! We have started two brothers of Show Material. Very excited to have them debute next year as three year olds =)
He is brilliant and he has gotten even better over the winter!!! I can't wait to bring him out this year!!! Cheer me on =) Oh....and just stay positive....you'll get to ride a horse like this someday! I believe you'll own a horse like this someday! Always believe.
