the same two chords played over and over again on the guitar. The same single droning note on the viola throughout the entire piece. It's ridiculously simple. Yet absolutely amazing.
Best thing about this band is that it shows that you see dreams in the worst nightmares with a special thing on your instrument and straight fromt the heart words.
Absolutely one of the best albums ever. In my personal top 10.
@mancheromanchero no not at all society cant influence people because you need people to have a society. Society is a group of any animal brought together by thoughts beliefs or actions. Drugs and music are created by the same thing therefor having the ability to persuade either or.
i miss heroin. i don't miss being dope sick. i don't miss having to hustle every day. i miss my dead friends. id on't miss the police involvement. i don't miss rats. i miss feeling like a champion after a hit. i miss all of it except that which i don't.
"had the balls to disagree with the counter-culture" doesn't really make sense considering that a COUNTERculture is going against the mainstream culture. Disagreeing with a counterculture is what MOST people were doing at that time. Believe it or not, I think I've seen stuff about Lou Reed at anti-war events in recent years. Just because he didn't do songs about peace doesn't mean that they didn't support it. They were probably just annoyed by the phony people who jumped on the bandwagon.
@RastaPatty96 Downtune all your strings a semitone, then its a D and then open 2nd 3rd and 4th strings, at the fast bit, its the same but strummed hard and for that little thing he does sometimes its a d shape and its like )-7-7--9-7
In a period where musicians were going over their asses with there "peace and love" bullshit, The Velvet Underground were a real, genuine band who actually meant everything word they said and had the balls to disagree with the counter-culture of that period. Not only that, but they influenced more people to start a band than the Stones or Led Zeppelin ever did. Great tune, saved me from suicide once.
@RebelThoughts simple, did you look at Woodstock 1969? everyone there was only concerned about dropping acid and getting stoned, only a few of them actually cared about Vietnam or politics in general. It's better to believe in nothing then to believe in petty, phony ideals like "peace, love and rock and roll" which you don't even strive to acheive.
@elo333333333 You think by watching a concert movie that you can judge the people who attended it? Just because we went to a rock festival didn't mean we were not also active in the peace movement the other 362 days out of the year. We didn't become celibate or become Priests and Nuns. A larger percent of the young population were politically active and effective at it than now. If a song about heroin gets your rocks off, so be it.
@elo333333333 Stones had quite a bit of balls, my friend. Zeppelin didn't lack any, either. And I don't think they influenced more people to start a band than Stones or Zep, either. When people say that, they are talking about ratios (and it's also romanticized and exaggerated); e.g. "maybe only 2,000 bought VU's first album, but every one of those kids went out and formed a band. Part of the reason is because VU had limited musical talent and it didn't seem so daunting. Love VU, but love truth.
bullshit, way more bands are influenced by the stones n zeppelin, ust cuz u have no idea what u talkin about, and the bands in the 60s who was all about peace and love who really was sinsear is that bullshit to u? to me thats sound like a pretty good idea, saved me from suicide pfff ofcourse u make one of those lines aswell, I dont know u so I dont really know ur experience about shit like that, I know too much of that shit and ppl like u fucking dramaqueens, PEACE out
@PsychadelicElephant you have charles manson as your profile pic, which makes not pay attention to anything you just wrote. Im not the drama queen which just menstruated over my opinion. my pic and my other opinions have nothing to do with this, my grammar have nothing to do with it either cuz u dont speak english where im from, but ust cuz VU was as u say AGAINST the hippie movement doesnt it mean that u should be too cuz thats means ur brainwashed, they didnt really care for it thats how I would put it cuz if ur AGAINST something u DO something to stop it, PEACE

i read that john and lou had their first fight, one which never really ended, because lou changed the lyric from "i know just where im going" to "i dont know..." i think it was in an interview with john. apparently it had reeeeally pissed him off.

this may be the first punk rock song just because of the fact that it was so real and talked about things that other writers were scared to say long live VU
looks like he's nodding off on stage. one thing ive noticed though. whenever u watch anything haviing to do with VU or Andy Warhol, you get the sence of something very evil lying underneath everything
@andrew1865 I 've always had the same feeling . Really never been able to put my finger on it - smth cold, corrosive, just evil as you said . Make me feel uneasy

anyone ever see the film Jesus' Son? Nothing to do with the VU. Everything to do with Heroin.

looks like he's nodding off on stage. one thing ive noticed though. whenever u watch anything haviing to do with VU or Andy Warhol, you get the sence of something very evil lying underneath everything

@andrew1865 I 've always had the same feeling . Really never been able to put my finger on it - smth cold, corrosive, just evil as you said . Make me feel uneasy

強制的に拝聴いたしました。電波サウンドではなく、ヴァイオリンだと初めて知りました。退廃した今の私の心に響かないわけがわかりました。クラシックサウンドでしたか。velvets FAN,sorry.
