  • I liked Angel best (the character) when they played up how old and out-of-touch he was. His love of Charlton Heston movies, for instance. Which is why I think Captain America will be fun in the Avengers, because nobody is more out of touch than Steve Rogers.

  • 7 seasons Buffy dvds, yet not one SMG interview on the special features. WTF?

  • @thelonelyslayer She's a diva. Honestly, SMG fans refuse to accept it but while Buffy is great, Sarah is really not a nice human being.

  • buffy duh rocked no if and or buts more than angel . but angel was a good show on its own and i think it was differten from buffy casue buffy was made for teenagers and angel was made for 20somethings . and james was also brought on casue like buffy when cordy left they needed the funny and he was pefcet for that . and i dont think you can blame anyone person for makeing a show suck . its all the pepole that work on the show . alot pepole thought marit noxon mad buffy bad .

  • Aw, I really want to meet Joss Whedon. I also really want to hit thumbs down just because no one has but that's more of a big red button with the words don't push on it then anything else...

  • @SaberSense It had more to do with the fact that every season Angel's time-slot was moved and changed. It went to first being on Tuesdays, then Sundays; then either Wednesday or Thursday. It was just a mess. It was hard for fans to keep track.

  • @SaberSense Angel's fifth season; imo was the weakest; not just because of the comedy but because it was so unstable and out of character in a way; at least in my opinion. I was pissed it was canceled; but looking back; I'm not all that surprised. It had more to do with the fact that every season Angel's time-slot was moved and changed. It went to first being on Tuesdays, then Sundays; then either Wednesday or Thursday. It was just a mess. It was hard for fans to keep track.

  • @SaberSense There has been humorous moments through out every season of Angel; but it was in moderation. I'm not saying the entire series didn't have it's light moments; but I believe that the fifth season was drastically changed to encourage the Buffy fans to watch.

  • @JackLivesTogether It was also cause Marsters joined the cast.. Spike and Angel loathed one another.

  • @Meticulous1010 Actually Joss didnt' really want to bring on James as a cast member; he wanted him to guest star; WB told him he had to. That's what I read in an interview with Joss.

  • @JackLivesTogether I completely agree with you. After David Greenwalt left Angel, Whedon and the other showrunners just didn't seem like they knew what to do with it. Season 4 was all over the place, and season 5, while still good was drastically different in tone then what had proceeded it.

  • @MyMojosSoDope Exactly. Greenwalt seemed to care about Angel the most; and actually knew what he was doing it with. I really wish he would have stayed on; I think not only would Angel have lasted longer; it would have been handled differently and effectively. It just seemed like every season after season 2; they didn't know what direction to take; so they changed it every season; and just made it worse.

Season 4 was so unorganized. I think they had too many villains going on for one thing.

  • Angel was so good, it should have gotten 10 seasons, it truly stands out and actually became Better than Buffy

  • @2Good2BeTrue45 I would disagree there. Buffy was way better put together than Angel, Angel never uite knew what t was all about, and was a bt messy because of it. It had some amazing moments, but collectively as a show, Buffy was far stronger.

  • @Browncoatt22 I would have to disagree. I think Buffy had higher highs and lower lows, but Angel was just consistently good. I can think of several stretches of Buffy that I really don't care for, but theres only one section in season 4 of Angel that I feel the same way about. I also think in terms of tone and themes I enjoyed Angel much more. I always feel like Angel is sort of the red headed step child of Whedon's work. Its just sort of a footnote next to Buffy, which is a real shame to me.

  • season 1-3 = david greenwalt = great

season 4 got wierd and was hard to follow. i think its because joss didnt have greenwalt plus the fact he had so many projects at the time. Angel suffered because of this.

  • @23hoyas The best of seasons 1-3 was more due to Tim Minear, IMO, than Greenwalt.

  • Angel is still pretty much my all time favourite show (along with Smallvile.) Such a great cast of well written characters, great storylines and constant excitement.

  • Very cool look at Joss' mindset and the creation of an iconic character.

  • @JackLivesTogether: Uh... what? The progression in Angel was exactly the oposite, and season 5 of the show is probably the best in all the Buffyverse. Also, Angel was a much more consistent show, qualitywise, and I certainly don't see Whedon's answer as him saying the same as you.

  • I think it was apparent and evident that Joss had a hard time with Angel. I think Angel's greatest downfall was the fact that they reinvented him everyyear instead of letting him have a balance. "What it was we were doing with it" isn't supposed to be a good thing.

I rate the episodes 1-5 1-5. The first season was it's greatest and the fifth season was it's weakest.

It's second downfall was David Greenwalt leaving. I just don't think Joss handled Angel well.

It's nice to see him agreeing.

  • @JackLivesTogether

You are one of the only people i've known who don't like the 5th season. I personally am a big fan of the 5th season. they finally find their mojo.

  • @vanishing446 I've met people who don't like season 5. Disagree; they lost their mojo. They made the show lighter to accommodate Buffy fans and Angel fans got slapped in the face because that wasn't the show we signed up for. The show was meant to be dark that was the whole point of Angel. Why create a show just to backtrack that much? So Buffy fans didn't have Buffy why did we have to lose Angel?

Angel peaked it's first season and declined as it grew on.

  • @JackLivesTogether The first season was terrible, just from a technical standpoint let alone story. I found the fifth season just as dark as the rest but if one was going to say any season of angel was dark, how was the first the best? terrible acting, awful plots for episodes. Just ahh, badness.

  • @vanishing446 The first season was not that dark. Not compared to the rest of the series. The first season wasn't terrible and it's stories were told much better then season 5.

I felt like the writers who came onto Angel in season 5 from Buffy had no idea what the show was and really tried to shove comical down everyone's throats because thats' what they were used to.

And I'm not a Spike/Marsters fan and he was forced down our throats as well.

  • @JackLivesTogether Uh, what?! How is Joss 'agreeing' with you? He said absolutely nothing of the sort. He is explaining that he isn't interested in conventional heroes, which is why Angel - who seems like one on the surface - had to be shown flawed and struggling and failing.

Season 1 was weak, it was just the show finding itself, and only the Faith episodes and the last couple of episodes are really excellent. Season 2 was a massive leap in quality compared to season 1.

  • @FrakkinToasterLuvva I didn't mean with everything that I posted. I meant with it being harder for him to write Angel. Which he did say.

Lets be honest; every season of Angel was Angel finding himself; and then the writers would take them down a completely different path of inconsistency.

  • @JackLivesTogether I would disagree about Angel's last season, I thought the show really picked up wth the addition of Illyria and Spike. It wa a shame to ruin Spikes sacrifice in Buffy but he made Angel so much better in it's last days. The interplay between the two vamps was very amusing and nteresting to watch, almost father and son, almost brothers. I liked it alot.

  • love the whedon, and love the angel our tall, dark and fanged hero :) thanks for posting

  • why are you chopping the interviews up, i want to see the whole thing

  • @yayap001 Interview was for on-air purposes. Segments are now available for online.

  • @br260454 Is the link you posted a route to the whole interview? of if not, can you post or message me the link for the whole interview please? Thanks. I love Joss & his writing & his shows and so stoked about him directing The Avengers!
