It sounds like the Alinsky Model is about trying to force ppl into his way of doing things, not empowering ppl based on their own merits. It's a control thing.

Looking at the Tea Party movement you see organized masses but it is about individual freedom and justice as the founding fathers intended from the beginning of this young country. Individualism doesn't work in the Alinsky model.

Read through this interview, and tell me you still think Saul Alinsky's method is against individual freedom. He fought for others' freedom all his life, and the destroying of his good name being done by the right of late is frankly sickening, especially from those who blatantly have not actually read or studied his work.

@urruler Stop trying to get people to go to your progressive socialist site. Saul Alinsky did not fight for people rights. He used people much like a master uses his slave. Alinsky was not fighting for peoples rights he was taking away the rights of others.

Here is what you Socialists don't see, the big picture. In Alinskys world view it can be achieved by only one method. Complete control of the individual and limit their freedom to improve themself. Thats not freedom thats facisism.

Like, for example, the fact that Alinsky was against the burden of taxation and against large government, and organised people to win their freedoms for themselves, then left communities which swiftly became thriving middle class neighbourhoods, from the slums they were. You call that socialism? I call it truly American.

Alinsky did not do what you assert that he did. At times he may have used language that gave that impression (mainly for controversies sake) but when you learn more about him you will realise the vast majority of what he did was simply what any decent human being would do. Preventing corporate corruption and exploitation, and organising communities to help themselves.

You might take note that the top band of income tax was actually substantially higher (up to 60% regularly and at points up to 90%) over the last 100 years in America. Compared to that Obama's taxation scheme, which is stil lower even than Clinton's, is actually significantly less 'socialist'.

Have you seen your tax regime compared to the vast majority of other western democracies? Really, comparing the democratic party with socialists is rather difficult when all the other Western economies have FAR more socialist systems than yours, and far more socialist systems than the democrats advocate. So unless every Western country is socialist, the democratic party isn't.

I'm just saying, you have to apply the same standard everywhere.
