  • UKA, you asked for suggested topics... UK C hristians have claimed in theTelegraph and elsewhere that they're treated as badly as or worse than American non-theists are treated by Christians. is there any truth to this claim?

  • @MESkeptic I can honestly say that is completely false.

  • Everything we can imagine comes from the mind of man. Whatever the mind can conceive man can achieve. God has many names and every name got a game. The world knows by now the games Christianity plays and only a fools take it serious.

  • The moral atheist also has the high ground by behaving good because it is the right thing to do, not because of the reward/punishment system invented by theists (heaven/hell).

  • Feel you could have said more on the murder issue. Didn't do it justice. but good regardless.

  • @bassmanco I felt its been done enough and most free thinkers would already know. I was also thinking it could be covered in more detail in another video if need be. Thank you though, I appreciate you watching :)

  • It's depressing how often this needs to be restated. I'm not sure that theists just don't get it. I think the vast majority of them just don't want to get it. They have to believe they're superior to us.

  • we dont need a foolish book to tell us that when we hurt somebody that it is wrong. i dont want to be cheated on ,so i dont cheat on someone. it hurts. when we punch someone we know we are inflicting some pain. love is identified by somebody taking the time to help you and not wanting anything in return.i find peace by helping everyone i can. i am not perfect but dont need some higher power to forgive me every time i make a mistake.i need to forgive myself and learn .

  • Pretty Good UKA I wonder if Muslims like or dislike an Atheist attacking Christianity? Not that it matters just curious. You never see too many responses from Muslims!

  • An interesting topic for study and a video is how teaching of creation is harmful when taught as a truth. As we live in the UK maybe it would be good to attack Islam as much as you do Christianity. Jesus cults over here are relatively harmless.

  • You could also do a video on: People NEED religion for support (or whatever)...

I've been bored to death with that quite a lot.

  • your philosophic view is strong my fellow atheist.. I would love to hear your take on "Why do people believe in a god, still with the mount of evidence that is been proven?" I have been studied this for a while, Karl Marx, Sigmund F, Christopher H, and so on! And i think it would be interesting to hear your view on that!

  • Our memories are what shapes our "morals," which are unique to each person/situation, as you clearly demonstrate in your video. Theists seem to think god gives them a set of fine tuned morals, when nothing could be further from reality. The 10 commandments, say nothing about rape, incest, or torture; however, there are accounts of many people engaging in these heinous activities, the majority of whom were "godly." Dennis Rader, the BTK killer, was the president of a Lutheran church.

  • The big picture is the Euthyphro dilemma, in which if morality comes from God, then murder and stealing could theoretically become okay, which would destroy the foundation of morality, or if morality is something higher than God, God is therefore not all powerful.

But I do have a problem with this video. You say that atheists can't justify murder, or senseless murder if you want to be more specific. What about "Jim and the Indians" by Bernard Williams? Just google it, it's a free pdf.

  • @pythor2 Being commanded by some authority to make a choice, is different than making a moral judgement call. Jim in this situation, is being presented with a no-way-out-choice, like "Sophie's Choice." The Nazi demanded that she choose between her son and daughter, she chose her son. They took them both, anyway; and she survived with that memory. Whose "moral barometer" were they using?

  • @Jbear9 I wasn't implying any measurement of morality, nor a higher figure. What are you arguing from?

  • @pythor2 I was wondering the same...what about Jim and the Indians?

  • @Jbear9 Jim and the Indians was an argument against utilitarianism. You had to kill one person to save more than one person. If that's not enough justification for killing someone then I don't know what is.

  • @pythor2What do you mean by "justify?" To whom does it justify killing? Who is making the determination of "just?" As I understand it, utilitarianism is the "greatest happiness principal." In this scenario, Pedro and firearms, are the authority demanding Jim make a choice of taking a life or watching many lives be obliterated.

  • @Jbear9 Yes. The greatest good for the greatest number. If you think that letting the rest of the indians die only because you don't want to kill one of them, fine. That's your choice. But for me, it's enough to kill one indian to save the rest.

  • @pythor2 I thought we were discussing morals. Are you saying the "greatest good for the greatest number" should set the moral standard?

  • @Jbear9 In the sense of murder, yes.

  • can you make a video on peoples faith? most theist particularly christens always speak of faith. and how me and other atheist/agnostic just don't get it. but they disregard another theist groups faith equally based on no evidence at all as rubbish. for a example; how is a Christians faith true but a Buddhist not even when the Christen belief has many more loop holes in its' belief? I think addressing this issue would be a good idea for your next video.

  • I think Dawkins' fantastic documentary called "Nice guys finish first" from 1986 perfectly demonstrates why morality has evolved and I believe it is an underused argument.

  • Hmmm. Have you done anything about how indoctrination of children in school? I think you should. :)

  • @LucyLabrador1 I will look into it, if you have any good sources i can study / watch that would be helpful.

  • @UKALogic Hmmm... well all I know is that schools are making children belive in God. For example, my brother was made to pray, and he didn't he was kept behind at school, and he's only 10. He's atheist like me.

  • @UKALogic Richard Dawkins did a documentary called 'Faith Schools Menace' on this exact subject. I agree I think you should do a video on this.

  • @IceManSudan i will see if i can find out the documentary and i will watch it. I will do a video on it in the next few weeks if i find it interesting, which im sure i will :)

  • murder can be justified by atheist, if you've read End of faith by Sam Harris he does a pretty good job of it!

  • @jadagod I will check it out, but what I was talking about is senseless murder.

  • @jadagod You need to go read Sam again! In what world does he justify murder??? The bible, on the other hand, not only justifies murder, but incest, torture, slavery and misogyny.

  • @Jbear9

"Some propositions are so dangerous that it may even be ethical to kill people for believing them." - Harris, The End of Faith, pp. 52-53 and listen to him justifying the war in Iraq, he see's it as good to kill people who may cause harm to civilized society (as do i). don't talk to me about the bible i'm an atheist too.

  • @jadagod The next lines read: "This may seem an extraordinary claim, but it merely enunciates an ordinary fact about the world in which we live. Certain beliefs place their adherents beyond the reach of every peaceful means of persuasion, while inspiring them to commit acts of extraordinary violence against others. There is, in fact, no talking to some people. If they cannot be captured, and they often cannot, otherwise tolerant people may be justified in killing them in self-defense.

  • Comment removed

  • @Jbear9 he justified it well don't you think?

  • @jadagod Hardly. Self defense is different than feeling justified in killing for one's beliefs. And we're not even talking about morals anymore. Good day to you.

  • "I have never written or spoken in support of the war in Iraq. The truth is, I have never known what to think about this war, apart from the obvious: 1) prospectively, it seemed like a very dangerous distraction from the ongoing war in Afghanistan; 2) retrospectively, it has been a disaster." Sam Harris Newsletter May 1st, 2011

  • This allows the person saying these things to feel superior and righteous about their moral high ground, since, after all, they are being truthful. I've known people like this and I see right through them. There is nothing moral about being truthful for no other reason than to cause hurt to another person.

  • Lying is one of those things that cannot be categorized as right or wrong. It's not the lying itself, it is the motivation behind it that is morally right or wrong. For instance, I know people who will use the excuse that they are too morally righteous to tell a lie, when their real motivation is to be cruel to someone needlessly. "You really need to lose some weight", or "let's be realistic, you don't have the capability to take on that job", for example.

  • @8698gil i agree and that is a point i made in the video, lying and its link to morality all depends on the person, the situation and the outcome. :)
