This must be from December 1980 because Tom Kennedy said he wishes Allen Ludden a Merry Christmas so it must be early on in the Kennedy era and not long after Allen left Password Plus. But Allen would unfortunately only be living for another 6 months at this point.
That Holland House product had to be among the earliest products made specially for microwave ovens. Microwave-inspired food items became quite hot in the 80s.
I don't know all of the exact dates, but during this show, Allen Ludden was diagnosed with Lung cancer. I believe it was after "Mary Tyler Moore" ended in 1977. Betty White, Allen Ludden, Allen's kids, Grant Tinker, Betty's mother, and Mary Tyler Moore were the only people who knew for a long while because Allen was feeling good. Then, Allen suffered a stroke and it got out to the public. He died on June 9, 1981. I don't know the dates for Password Plus, but maybe that info can help!
It was stomach cancer. He kept the stomach cancer so hidden that not even NBC knew about it. He left the show in the summer of 1980 because he had to have surgery. I guess he returned after the surgery a little thinner, but not really telling the audience that the surgery didn't cure him. By Oct 1980 he had a stroke and as ACuriousDancer said he died in 1981.
@secondchance1977 Bill Cullen, who was hosting "Chain Reaction" subsitituted Allen in April 1980, during his cancer treatment. In an ironic "chain reaction" of substitute hosting, Geoff Edwards subbed fo Bill on his show that time.
This ain't full credits. If only the production co. is shown, it's short credits. Full credits would list director, producers, writers, RESEARCHERS (hi Chris), and technical staff.
GS credits 100% BUT YOU CAN KEEP THAT STINKING INQUIZITIOR. WHAT A CONCEITED JACK ASS! shame THAT elitist. back when that show was on I wanted to give that dusty arse a swift kick in the you know where. he made Ben Stein look like Bert Convy. some things IMO need not be brought back!

I remember a couple years ago on GSN, when GSN Live was on 12PM-3PM Eastern, they would often leave this show uncrunched (but still no fee plugs).

Just curious, but was Tom Kennedy a substitute host??
animegal2686 3 years ago
He was, and then he became permanent host.
secondchance1977 3 years ago
Perhaps you can answer another question for me, why did he become the permanent host?? Did Allen Ludden pass away??

I thought he had stomach cancer

It was either stomach or lung cancer I'll have to look in my book. But he had a stroke after he had already been sick.

Password Plus ended in 1982 (not sure on the exact date) and I'm pretty sure Kennedy took over in 1980, maybe '79.
nycboy3489 2 years ago
Oh I didn't think it was as early as '79. Maybe '80.

Oh ok i couldn't remember when the show itself started.
