Whether or not Maria Bello acts well, one cannot recast main characters in sequels. It's just wrong.

Why not just leave the character out? It's easily explained away. She could have been killed in "the war" when they were spies (which apparently happened?!), or stuck at home, bogged down with work, while the boys had an adventure together, like Indiana Jones' search for the Holy Grail with his dad. The script wasn't so great that it couldn't be changed to exclude Evelyn in an effective way.

The storyline of this movie is fine. But the attitude of the actions is not there, especially the character Evelyn. Rachel has that attitude of stupidity, innocent, elegant, a librarian, passionate, and lovely. I'm sorry, but I don't see these on Mario. She may be good on Coyote Ugly, but, not in The Mummy.
