  • GREETINGS, LOVE and RESPECT from Malaysia to my brothers and sisters over there.

  • aku nampak popia goreng!!!!- from penang, malaysia

  • 350 years when the dutch colonised malaya, which was not called indonesia or malaysia yet, spoke a unified language called melayu. These political prisoners from malaya were taken to cape town. The Cape Malays were not allowed to speak their native tongue for fear of being locked up or beaten. They had to conform and speak Dutch. Many refused and started adding words from Melayu such as pisang, pondok, lappi etc, and thus Afrikaans was borne. Only a few of these Cape Malay still speak Melayu.

  • @zayedster I agree, saya setuju.

  • cape malay does not refer to malaysia, it refers to the language melayu, most of the slaves were from java, and language in cape malay communities still have a few words from melayu, but also from other languages like sunda. cape malays are as much indonesian as malaysian in origin

  • Of course.Malaysia is a country LESS than 100 years old.Malays are the race of people who inhabit the South East Asia for 1000-years.Indonesian generally identified themselves by ethnic group (suku)n self-identified as bangsa Indonesia (Indonesian race) instead Malay race. When the malays in Malaysia sings the same songs using Malay words and eats the same foods as we can watch in the video above, the Indonesian asking for war.simply because its belong to Indonesian race!!!!

  • there seems to be a misunderstanding, the word cape malay does not refer to malaysia, the name is derived from the language the slaves used to speak which was melayu. most of the slaves come from pulau java, malacca and sumatra, they used melayu because they could all understand it. in cape town we still have words from melayu, but also from other languages like sunda. there are also foods like dening (dendeng) boeber (bubur) and others. from a cape malay living in java indonesia

  • 2:00 asam pedas?

  • It is true that what has been said by Admiral Hang Tuah sometime 600 years ago, "Takkan Melayu Hilang Didunia". Everywhere on earth that habitate by Malays, they all still can survive and live with prosperity and success. Malays are a fighter. Salam frm Pahang.

syiok tu kalau ada yang cakap bahasa Melayu kat sana..pmpuan pun cun2 pe..=P

  • that food looks so good right about now,lol.....

  • Haha! They didn't compare food from Indonesia, instead they compare it from Malaysia. XD

  • South African History goes way-way back to the San and Khoi, viz KhoiSan who are the very cradle of Mankind ... going back to 100,000 back before the northern migration some 10,000 ago.

Something has always bothered me: Why Malay in Cape Town for Holland had colonised Indonesia - the most populous Muslim country of the world.

Would it not therefore be more exact to refer our beautiful people from The Fairest Cape of them all as Indo/Malays or Malay/Indonesians ...

    Constructive Feedback anyone

  • @kykdaar

because british send malay people/orang melayu to south africa

    i'm not sure about dutch

  • 1.38 Popia..1-43 Rendang ayam..

I would love to see malay-Cape wearing baju kurung and baju Melayu. But please

do not sing Rasa sayange.Indonesian would burn your flag too.

    Greeting from KL

  • Hahaha... You are right! The Indonesian will say that you stole / claim their culture...

  • @6wenn Actually sometimes I do wear my baju melayu. Actually Indonesians are much more accepting of Cape Malays and are generally beautiful and down to earth people.

  • yes..they did...but do not sing Rasa sayange,,they will burn your flag and maybe you

  • LOL! So True. Doesn't matter if you were brought over there from the land of Parahyangan, Malacca or Sumatera. Once you out, you can't practice your ancestors' traditions (or even say that it is YOUR tradition) if your ancestors' land is now falls within indonesian territory. How a nation so big can be so stupid? Sigh...
