andi was a bum..he houldnt be in the ring top 100 hardest punchers..clearly overated power..maidana,valero,judah,mathysee,pacquiao,holt,bailey,mosley,tito,de la hoya are all much much harder punchers..ring seriously need to update their records
I bet Howard Davis was pissed. he was suppose to fight Sean next if he won. that would have been a big fight. Howard davis never had a big payday. now he's training MMA fighters in Miami
Old school shenanigans here. Larry Hazzard reffin and a Ballroom setting. Ganigan has been bashed up recently and word is he will never fully recover. Get well soon Andy !
I remember this fight. Incredible KO by Ganigan. Wow! O'Grady's loss to Verderosa was a fluke, and the Watt fight was a ripoff, but Andy completely bombed him out here. What incredible power Ganigan had. Always seemed like a likable guy too.
I remember Andy Ganigan having the great Alexis Arguello down in their title fight. unfortunately Arguello figured him out and KO'd him after a real slugfest. Props to Ganigan for his win over O'Grady.
That was a great fight with Arguello delivering a great finish, Ganigan was a hell of a puncher though, aside from Pryor he is the only one off the top of my head who I remember putting Arguello on the deck, though putting him there didn't do Ganigan any favors.
I think it looks more authentic, and less sterile, than fights from some casino ballroom. Seeing this takes me back to a time when boxing was so much better than it is now.
-- Man, was Ganigan fun to watch. Love to watch Sean O'Grady too. Sean was too big for that weight at that time...once he won the title he should have moved up...he's so dehydrated I don't think he broke a sweat here. He could easily have been a light welter champ. I thought the Kenty fight took something out of him.
Right-on for posting this Andy fight!! My dad grew up with Andy in Waipahu HI. So I got to hear a lot about Andy from my dad while growing up. Now I can finally put a face with the name. Mahalos!!
Andy was my brother in-law back in the day. He fought like a lion and had the heart of one too. I was very young but I remember the tremendous amount of hours he devoted to his training and the kindness he always showed to my brother and I.
Hes an "Irish American" from Oklahoma and was a world champion in 1981. Beat hilmer kinty. Where in Ireland are you from? your country is beautiful. My mother is from Mayo
thanks for the great upload! ganigan's left a sidewinder. i would say at least as good as manny pacquiao's. i would have loved to see andy fight fellow hawaii resident rolando navarette.
Pacquiao fought a lot like him in his early days, Ganigan really had TNT in his left though, he was considered the hardest puncher in the lightweight division coming into his fight with Arguello and that says a lot about his power right there. I think a fight with Lando Navarette would of been good for a couple rounds but I think Ganigan would of overwhelmed him in the middle rounds, just my take on it though.
I sparred with ganigan in 79, his team was hoping for a fight with Jim Watt, whos also a southpaw and i sparred with Navarette cause we had the same trainer (tony rodrigueg) of kalakaua gym. I have to say that Andy would win even though rolando was a good friend of mine. if you did not no, rolando ended up in the mental hospital in the filipines. sad story. more to it though.
Last I heard of Navarette he was living in a dilapidated building in General Santos City (I think). From the pictures I saw of him it looked like he was still in excellent shape but it also said he had been drinking heavily. It really is sad because he provided us with so many good fights and he should be remembered that way, I am going to get his fight with Chung II Choi up as soon as I can.
Yes it is really sad to see him this was. hid did bring us some great fights and he was a good person in Hawaii. he went down hill in life after spending time in prison in Hawaii for rape which he was falsley accused of. thanks for the videos. nice memories.
Pat & Sean O'grady had brass balls taking on a puncher like Ganigan when he was training for Howard Davis

Any uploading of Johnny "The Heat" Verderosa would be the greatest Christmas gift in Y/T hx, esp. the stoppage of O'Grady after which Sean retired .

@West91491 Jose Luis Ramirez scored a knockdown too, against Arguello in a non title fight in 1980. That fight is too here in youtube.

I actually posted that fight about a year ago on my old channel, good eye bro.
West91491 2 years ago
@MJKDTJ The thing is...unless you were Aaron Pryor or some guy in Alexis' first fight, there was no way you could keep Alexis down...
Robbery as his win vs JLR was, at least Arguello got up and hung on lol!!

Good grief - this looks like it was fought in an 8x8 ring in someone's basement.
