I love the MP4-13. For me, it ranks among the most beautiful F1 cars of all time, right up there with the Maserati 250F, the Eagle T1G and the Lotus 79.

That was such an exciting season. Qualifying sessions were as exciting as the races. Schumacher would go out and set a blazing time, then Hakkinen would beat him by a tenth, then Schumacher would beat him by a few hundredths, then Hakkinen would go out and beat Schumacher by a few thousandths...

Mp4/13 has been one of the strongest F1 cars ever, with a lot of innovations in aerodinamics and mechanics (above all, the brake steer).

One of the best ever together with 1988 McLaren-Honda Mp4/4, the 1992 Williams-Renault FW14B, 1993 Williams-Renault FW15C, 1996 Williams-Renault FW18, 2002 Ferrari F2002, for innovation and advantage towards the competitors.

Not a case that the most of them were designed by Adrian Newey...

I still remember the title of an article in Autosprint magazine (italian one) after the first winter test of this car: "Rockets McLaren".

considering that the car is loose from oversteer and accelerating at the same time midway through the old bus stop.. AND about to go through to curbs that disrupt the balance of the car, having no run off in the start/finish area is a MAJOR safety hazard

it's clear that the car's balance is upset at the bus stop entrance... and suffering from oversteer midway thru.. yet hakkinen is already accelerating

.. accelerating AND about to ride through 2 bumps at the exit of bus stop which AGAIN upsets the balance of the car.. with a guard rail that collects anything that loses control

.. and cars behind have no warning since they are accelerating thru a blind exit.. do the math genius

Kimi Raikkonen told couple of weeks ago that he was glad about Suzuka is back on the calender. Real track where you have to pay for your errors. He doesn´t like new tarmac hells where every playstation player can have good races, because errors doesn´t usually even cost much time.

Old fashioned tracks require precision. Modern Tilke tracks are too forgiving. F1 should be pinnacle of motorsport not sunday drivers safety club.

Many people may not have noticed this, but Eau Rouge was dramatically altered between 1998 and 1999. The barriers were moved back, and the corner was made a lot less tight. They took all the challenge away from this corner, and then the Bus Stop...and look at the circuit now. I'd say a shadow of its former self!

EXACTLY, long live the bus stop, they took it out cuz these pussy new school drivers said it was unsafe. Grow some balls and challenge yourself and the car. I don't understand F1, take out the bus stop chicane and yet they introduce turn 8 at istanbul which is almost full throttle all the way through the 4 apex's.

its so funny with hakkinen how he was a average/good driver but after his win in spain 97 he totally changed and was by far the best driver over the next 2-3 years (just shows what the first win can do), had mclaren been more reliable in 00-01 he would probably have had 3 championships to his name

Hakkinen was excelent but he had the best car in that period. Schumacher, in fact, did more considering his car.

in 98 he definatly had the best car, 99 mclaren was slightly faster than ferrari. 2000 i think the ferrari and mclaren were fairly well matched. but i do agree with you schumacher did great things in cars that werent up to scratch
