  • If I'd only known then what I know now.

  • Music treasure, TY for upload :)

  • It's not as wailing because it's live. As those that have seen her perform as I have it's impossible to have her perform at studio level. Takes nothing away, it's a unique situation

  • i like it

  • "respected music journalist" is an oxymoron

  • <3 Amolap

  • She was happy at those days...

  • Better than the album. Much quieter and delicate.

  • FUCK SAKE

  • I was always nervours to hear anythang she sang live for a long time but now I actually like hearing some live versions better than studio recordings. Like Jimi Hendrix live in concert vs buing his albums, same thang...

  • I think this is wonderful!

  • I have to say I'm not happy with her choice to do this all mellow falsetto-- on the album version she is really wailing with full voice much more, so much so that her voice is doing that definitive octave-split thing that made me addicted to their sound. Her voice would split into the melody and this shrill wail 1 octave higher. Gotta hear it to believe it.

  • @daedrmr2dae I also prefer the studio version. For me there is more emotion in the way she sings it on the album. But I like hearing it done differently like this too. It's one of my favourite tracks and I never thought there'd be a clip for it!

  • Awsome!!!!!

  • ok. i might be totally off.

but to me, simon keeps missing some important changes and liz is looking over at him thinking " are you ever going to hit that right"?

it could be a problem with his volume, but something isn't there.

  • liz used to always do that look off to the side thing

  • Comment removed

  • Thats because she was quite shy.

  • @divinedgar no, youre totally off. i am bang on the money. i am sure elizabeth was just looking at me to check i was ok. this was my first year with the band and she was just being sweet. of course i make mistakes sometimes over the years, but i am pretty awesome so its very unlikely ; )

  • The most sensual, romantic and dreaming sound in rock history! The soundtrack of heaven..

  • Love it!!!!!

  • Que ca fait du bien ... : )

  • 3.25 "what r u doing, simon ?" lulz

  • Music will never be this creative, prolific or magical every again. Imagine 3 people on a bare stage with a tape player making something this special these days. Never again.

  • 2.00 beautiful liz <3 she's stunning here, so young and healthy lookin

  • So different from the album version which I know well and love: a whole new dimension for me to consider and imagine.

    Thank you.

  • Maravilloso!

  • Su sonrisa es... descansar en un sueño hecho realidad. Cocteau twins son lo mejor.

  • Millimillenary has always been

    one of my favorites--

and this version is gorgeous as well.

  • This is wonderful! thank you!

  • memories galore !!!

  • 100th rating. So what do I win?

  • This is an amazing performance! Wow. Thanks for posting!

  • I can't stop playing this song again and again.

  • Neither can I, and I don't even like the Cocteau Twins.

  • Awesome and Brilliant performance.

  • Do you know what angels sound like?

    Listen here.

  • relaxed, confident, she is so beautiful here. Love this version too. it's good to see Liz so relaxed and even smiling here.

  • Queen - that's what she is!!!

  • No luv. that's Freddie Mercury.

    This is Cocteau Twins...

  • As far as I know it was just pure orange juice. Fantastic band!

  • 1000DRUMZ I love you mate!!! I have an old grainy B&W video recording of this, never seen it in colour before and its perfect. This is my favourite live performance pre Bluebell Knoll, youve no idea how delighted I am in seeing this!!

Imaculate playing (we can excuse Simons scratch!)and has Liz gives one of her most immaculate vocal performances which led me to rave about them to all and sundry.

Do you have the whole recording - I think there was 4 tracks recorded.

  • No, doubt it was alcohol. Used to watch them all the time round about the early eighties and never seen her drunk. Did you know her well?

  • Nope, I don't know her. But she once implied that she smoked in an interview, so I wouldn't be surprised if she took the occasional swig to help her with performing. I'm a singer who suffers from the exact same issue. It's hard to be 100% there with an audience when you sing mostly for yourself.

  • HOW DID I MISS THIS CLIP up until now!? This is incredible. Was that alcohol she was drinking? That would explain the lack of performance nerves here... rare at that period. One of my CT favorites.

  • What an absolute treat!

    Thank you a million times!!!

    Absolutely lovely, gorgeous, divine!

  • God, she's so radiant here, and serene, too! Wonderful performance!!!

  • lets just say,i wouldnt kick her out of bed for eatin toast

  • This must be the show SVT aired on Bagen, right?

  • Wow, what a beautiful version... And I've never seen her smile like this, so relaxed. Must have been a great atmosphere in there! Thank you for posting this.

  • absolute perfection. a beutifully restrained version of this stunning song.

  • millimilenaria esta song , beautiful, gorgeous, con un toque de melancolia!!!

  • Those eyes, that mouth......

  • More soft and lyrical than the album version.

  • O.K., no one else has come right out and said it so I will - Liz is downright SEXY in this performance!!

None of the apprehension or tension present here; good grief - she even SMILES in this video!

Yeesh, watching this made me feel like my old Kate Bush crush era from the early 80's, lol.

Now, back to the usual "Voice of the Angels" comments that are normally made...

  • Liz has always been sexy...well, except for recently...she didn't age very well....

  • Thanks for sharing this one, I didn't know this song at all. As usual, absolutely gorgeous.

  • I wish sometimes that I had been of an age in the early eighties, sitting in a dark place with the Cure or Cocteau Twins playing right in front of me. Those people were so fortuante....

  • Wow, Terrific (-_-)

  • AWESOME and BRILLIANT performance... in 1984!

Eternal thanx for uploading this gem!

  • a wonderful archive moment...simon playing guitar too, the concentration!!

  • The icy audience dont realize what's in front of them- a legend band

  • Listen, I remember when I was completely jealous of a bunch of friends who went to see the H or LV tour in Toronto in '91 that I didn't see them. But not one was all that enthusiastic about the performance...and watching live Cocteaus clips on YT I can see why.

They're a studio band. And there's no shame in that! It just is what it is. It doesn't take away from my sheer joy at seeing how as time passes the Cocteaus remain such an utterly timeless band.

  • Amazing! Wish I could've seen them when they were touring, but alas I was still swimming around in my dad's sack with this came out!

  • Awesome live!

  • Oh my, I think I have a girl crush!

  • jordimla this performance shows that Liz or CT for that matter isn't just a studio product. I have seen plentey of live performances that where awesome. just cause she isn't a narcassistic tart doesnt take away from her undeniable gifts.

  • Who gives a shit about journalists and their reviews! I certainly do not. Liz is amazing bottom line! I myself love her live performances. They may seem abstract or nervous to you,but it is her signature style to give abstract performances, often times twisting the lyrics around to make them her own and i love and respect her for having the guts to have her own way of singing. She is one of a kind and i love her for it! This website is not a journalist review site, its a fan site so get off!

  • One of the very few occasions that Liz jas managed to perform well live!!! I have seen the Cocteau Twins perform live in the Uk during their 4AD heydays and it was horrendous and very static. Whoever the Swede who taped this performance a lot of kudos to you for capturing Liz at her best.

  • Well, I only managed to see them live AFTER "their 4AD heydays" and they were out of this world, especially Liz! I've heard bootlegs from before and I honestly don't know what your problem is! Do they not move enough on stage for you? Were you looking for a show instead of a live music performance?

  • NO, I was not looking for a show, but a decent live performance from them. During their 4AD years, their set is continually racked by backing tape problems and Liz' constant attack of the nerves and vocal waywardness. Bootleg performances always chose the best gigs or else thye wouldn't sell...come off your Liz manic idolatry and admit that Cocteau Twins' music is a product of studio creation and best experienced in the living room than in a live setting!!!!

  • Have you watched any of the other live videos on here? I'm sure you are capable of finding them, and they are after the 4AD yrs! No backing tape problems!!!

And do you think CT bootlegs sell like hot cakes? How many have you bought? And from where? You're living in another dimension!

  • So, you take your cue from music journalists? You can't make up your own mind? I don't need music journalists to tell me what is good!

  • Well, that's your opinion! Do you think yours are more valid than anyone else's cos you somehow manage to get them published? Have you even looked at the other amazing videos here on YT of CT live? Obviously, not, going by the end of your comment.

P.S. I hope you don't write English language journalism, cos your grammar is not up to scratch!

  • Iam a huge fan of the cocteaus and i couldnt agree with you more. The first time i saw them i was actually embarrassed for poor liz. She sounded as if she was a strangled swan. But on the milk and kisses tour she was brilliant, due to the removal of her head set, which she used in prior tours. Once the head set was gone it made all the difference. I agree, they definatley are a studio band....

  • there's nothing scared about her performance, she's really relaxed and it's a different spin on the song. love's easy tears, orange appled, pink orange red. and you MUST hear "The Angel on Ruskin"

sayin all that, i never saw them live myself XD

  • 'respected music journalist'. yes, your views are so much more valid than that of us mere mortals. the number of sub-standard bands that 'respected music journalists' give the thumbs up to is amazing.

  • you may be right...MAYBE...but let's look at their music shall we...

Half of their albums are 4 out of 5 stars. it means they are doing something right.

  • i am not talking about their albums or eps. they are meticulously produced and are flawless. my main gripe is about the inconsistency of their live performance of which liz is the main culprit.

  • even so, if you listen to them on their album it doesn't seem like their shows would be much upbeat and energetic. it would be like something you just watch and let the music take ahold of you

  • i never expected an upbeat or energetic show when i came to watch their concerts...what i expected was to be emotionally moved and to be carried over some great heights of spiritual bliss. Unfortunately, that never came about, because of frequent problems with the backing tapes (they used backing tapes from 1982-1988)and liz' problem with her voice due to her nervousness.

  • you do what most 'esteemed' journalists the world over do - drop a semi-realised, half idea into a discussion, and, upon backlash, you shrug and say 'who, me?'. Then you go on to contradict yourself by using 'horrendous' and 'heyday' in the same clause. NEVER receive a live thumbs up? Check your old NME's, Melody Makers and Sounds. As is usual with 'esteemed' journalists you're let down by poor research. I saw them six times from '83 onwards, glad I didn't waste money on Level 42 and King, dig?

  • Just luv liz and the cocteaus!!!

Yeah! liz did suffer badly with nerves,on live

    events,like lots of stars!!!brill stuff!!

    Thanks for the video mate!!.

  • It's nice to see this here. Liz looks like a living breathing painting.

  • wow Liz sounds and looks amazing in this! What a beautiful song!

  • Wow, I love this live version of 'Millimillenary'! Thanks for posting it!

  • I was one of the people in the audience and at that time I was not very impressed by the performance. My impression was that Liz was very nervous between the songs and the sound was not good. The concert was recorded by the Swedish public service TV and I guess we should be grateful to the TV technicians for the quality since Liz looks fantastic and the sound is great in this video. When I here the music today I realise that they were so ahead of its time.

  • Hermoso!

  • I could watch this all day long.

  • tis one of the best songs

  • Beautiful. Thanks for posting this.

  • be still my beating heart! just too good for words - only liz speak could do it justice. Thanks for this one too.

  • Awesome, great track and great performance.

  • wow...just wow.........

Robin's guitar sounds so beautiful...only one guitarist I know who can replicate a sound like this...

  • Yes...Simon Raymonde

  • not who I was thinking...

I was going to say Kenny Hickey

  • Excuse my ignorance....don't think I know him?

  • most people don't

    =)

he's the guitarist from Type O Negative.

watch the live video for "Christian Woman"

about halfway through, you'll see what I mean

  • o tak Liz jest Aniołem :-)

  • Oh God (i.e. Oh Liz) !!! You will go definitively to heaven for posting this !!

    Thanksssss

  • I've never seen her looking so beautiful. 02:02 an angel smiles. Wow!! i could watch this forever

  • Thank you for that.

  • wow I love how laid back she is here. what a sweet smile. oh and the song is lovely. it's so fortunate for us that they where created and then created such ethereal music.

  • I can remember the first time I heard this, on a free cassette with a music magazine. Goosebumps then, & now. I started writing to her after 'Garlands' was released and her letters & postcards are amongst my most treasured possesions. I hope she is happy & well :)

  • Cocteau Twins 4-ever.

  • I am awestruck and speechless by this magic. Maybe the audience is too, and that would explain their lame-ass response to this amazing performance.

-otherworldly- This is one of my favorite live performances of CT as of late..

  • What an upload! Bravo. The first Twins song recorded in the studio with Simon i believe.

  • this is soooooooooo ahead of its time. The audience doesnt realize that they are hearing history in the making.

  • Absolutely one of my favorite Cocteau Twins song, when I listen to it, I feel as if I am not even listening to human music, it's like something dreamlike...almost out-of-this world! What a nice arrangement with the quite vocals!

    Excellent!

  • Nice one! I wonder why this song wasn't put on Lullabies to Violaine?

  • oh my goawd did you see that angel smile...wow..

  • Fantastic, thanks for sharing this. Do you have any more of this set. If so, please please please upload, i'm begging you :)

  • mi cancion preferida de 'the pink opaque'

  • Oh oh oh! This is so wonderful! I get so excited everytime I hear Liz sing! Thank you so much for this I really enjoyed it.. <3

  • Ditto!!

  • Oh Mon Dieu !!!!!!!! Amazing !!! Thanks 1000DRUMZ
