  • And having Mick Karn on this record was an act of genius - what a sound. Love it.

  • Im in a constant stae of anomie that Bill Nelson isnt up there with the greats!!!! he should be......he should be sat atop the (quite dull) pile!

  • Bill will be performing Be Bop Deluxe material alongside some solo tracks .

  • Any Karn fans who haven't heard his solo album should get hold of a copy - one track in particular for me 'Passion in Moisture' is just amazing - not unlike this bassline.

  • mick karn , cool, unique,class R.I.P

  • not Be Bop at all. Wish they were seperate. Bill played real guitar in BBD and was creditable rock music. This is experimental 80s stuff. and the bass is nice, but not mind breaking.

  • There is a giant hole now Mick has gone

  • @pawnsacrifice1 I know : /

  • I often wondered what Missing Persons would've sounded like had Mick Karn played with them instead of Patrick O'Hearn...both are great but Mick was the innovator of this kind of Euro-percussive/slap fretless style long before others like Peter Gaberil & Taylor of DuranDuran.

  • WOW

  • Incredible song with a beautiful bass !

  • r i p mick karns......the GENIUSbehind the bass,no other bass player can or would match him.......R I P. MICK

  • R-I-P Mick Karn, a true true talent and THE most amazing bass player that ever lived, I will never forget the Japan gig I went to in 1982, the best ever and Mick made it, what a talent.........sad times......... zzzsjp

  • Mick was another genius like Bill; I was engineering in RicRac Studio in Leeds when he came in to put the bass on this track and the sparks were flying. David Sylvian, Yukihiro Takahashi & others were asking Bill to play guitar on their projects and of course all this has stood the test of time. It's great to see how much this music is appreciated ;~}

  • this is fantastic ...micks influence is stamped all over it...we miss u mick..like many of the true artists we only appreciate your true talent when u have passed on...may allah bless your gentle soul x

  • @khyberkarn God..Jesus Christ.. not allah.

  • What an amazing bassline from the best player ever to grace a recording.

  • Brilliant track by Bill Nelson and Mick Karn R. I. P. So sad your gone :(

  • what a great track and Mick Karn R.I.P.. best bass player God will ever have

  • holy god,what a bassline !

  • @zzzsjp thanx for a sweet bill nelson tune!!

  • That fuckin' fretless soooooo rocks...kinda like....Jaco!!

  • @wjf1950 Jaco Pastorius is smiling in the realm beyond and loving this....Mick Karn you are a god...almost as highly regarded as Bill himself.

  • @wjf1950 Absolutely nothing like Jaco. Thank god!

  • Mick Karn is focking amazing! Get better soon Mick!

  • takahashi's pcm drums, micks bendy fretless,

  • mick is amazing. be well my friend. i am think of you everyday.

  • Bill has created a track for the Mick Karn cancer treatment fund. See the Bill Nelson forum for details.

  • From mickkarn.net With great sadness we regret to inform you that Mick has recently been diagnosed with advanced stages of cancer. Mick is currently in a positive mood and undergoing further tests and treatment. His family and friends are close with him, supporting him in practical ways, and surrounding him with their love, friendship and care.

Please try and donate something at the above website

  • Mick is the fucking man on bass. Just discovered the whole Chimera album and Bill pulls off so pretty amazing bass lines himself

  • Dearest Mick, this is another piece of your best work!

  • listen to do you dream in colour..you will get a good idea of bill nelsons genius...

  • I think the photo @ 2:00 is Bill with another creative god, Brian Wilson.

  • @powerbandman - looks more like Robert Wyatt to me, but frankly not sure it's either of them!

  • @chrisnewcastle61 - You know, I think you're right. Looks a lot like BW in his more "troubled" days in the '80s, but more like Wyatt, per some later photos. The musical styles seem more aligned too. Thanks!

  • @powerbandman - would you believe it, sometimes the answer is really this simple - I just googled "Bill Nelson and Robert Wyatt", clicked images and guess what came up... heh! :-)

    all the best...

  • @chrisnewcastle61 There you go. Good call, man. BTW, I'm going to see Brian Wilson and band play on May 29 in Scottsdale, Arizona - front row in a casino/resort ballroom :-) Should be great. He has a stellar band, if you haven't heard his recent stuff. Cheers!

  • @powerbandman - yes indeed, should be excellent. Give him a wave from me from good old Blighty! Maybe I will catch him if he visits these shores again. cheers

  • how many prog rock guitarists have even heard of Jean Cocteau let alone been inspired by him? Answer........................ one . Bill nelson

  • Bill Nelson plays some mean Bass himself

  • bill nelson.....think of bbd red noise.........all classics..........but this..with karns wow!

  • Amazing record, does anyone know what happened to the track Mick was supposed to play on Kate Bush's Ariel?

  • Certainly the best track on the Chimera LP helped by the expert bass playing of Mick Karn. Superb. I will die happy knowing that this is on YouTube!

  • Bill Nelson.

    Bow to your sensei!!!

Saw BBD years ago a couple of times. Words fail me. There is NOTHING presently out there in rock with the musicianship of Bill and Co.

Never mistake lack of talent for genius like so many are now doing.

  • GREAT WORK, THANKS

  • Is this the same guy who play guitar in BBD, strange, sound in a other direction, but i like it. coool !

  • Yes Bill Nelson was the lead guitarist for BBD!

  • Hav'nt heard this for years, problem with modern tech. you end up not listening to your old records, they get pushed up the loft, starting to get them down again though!

  • Karn makes a Wal bass speak.... super stuff! Love Bill Nelson :-) Chorus is wunderbar!!!

  • As montero888 says, don't forget, Yukihiro Takahashi is on this album, too. Bill's been on a few of Yukihiro's albums and live bands. Their cover of Neil Young's "Helpless" on Wild & Moody is pretty fine, too. I've also heard that Bill's wife, Emiko, is Yukihiro's ex. I've got tons of both of their works along with the YMO, Sakamoto, Hosono and Hajime Tachibana stuff. Some of the greatest music in my opinion.

  • Check out Yukihiro's album What Me Worry? There is a song on it called "My Highland Home In Thailand" which features some very dreamy ebow guitar by Nelson. It's' a beautiful song, but way too short.

  • yuki from larc en ciel?

  • No, that's Yukihiro Awaji, not Takahashi. YT is a whole generation ahead in age, probably pushing 60 by now. I first became aware of YT on when he played for the Sadistic Mika Band in the mid-70's. (Geez, I'm old!) They recently did a remake of "Time Machine Ni Onegai" and "Big Bang-Bang" with Kaela Kimura singing lead.

  • Bill Nelson = Genius

  • Don't think anyone could dispute that. BN is a genius

  • AMAZING GUITAR BY BILL NELSON-GENIOUS AND FREETLESS BASS BY MICK KARN-GENIOUS AS WELL.

    Thank you so much zzzsjp

  • is a solo guitar of Robert Fripp.

  • no, that's bill nelson on guitar.

  • One of my favourite Bill Nelson tracks from one of my favourite Bill Nelson albums!

  • j'aime po :-(

  • Bill Nelson = Genius

  • brilliant thanks for posting

  • I'm SO thankful my first love got me into Bill (and David Sylvian) in 1987!! I love them both very much to this day (as you'll see in my favorites). No one these days comes close to the moods they put me in.

  • yeh I agree. Mick Karn could have written this.

  • sounds like it could have come off a Mick Karn album. Really like it.

  • Mick Karn should be in the Who,not Pino Palladino.

  • hope for the heartbeat

  • Can someone please post a track called "Wait for the Heartbeat" by Bill Nelson. I could have the title slightly wrong. I had a double album by him in 1981, which also had Flaming Desire On It.

  • I think you mean 'Hope For The Heartbeat'. It was track 2 on The Love That Whirls [Diary Of A Thinking Heart] album. Amazing song. If you don't have it already, get the remastered cd.

  • Hi Bill Nelson fans i just uploaded Bills hope for the heartbeat ....ive been reading Bills book made my day when he said he had been listening to Nick Drakes pink moon album ...my 2 heros Nick and Bill..........by 4 now SaturdaySon

  • Great, funny for me is Bill and Nick the gods is my house.

  • How the hell did I miss a track like this and this Bill Nelson fella? I am massive japan and Sylvian and Rain tree crow fan...how did I miss this diamond? Oh the injustice!!

  • When Sylvian's Gone to Earth album came out, I paid attention to the contributers, and Bill Nelson was one among many... He had an album "Getting the Holy Ghost Across"... I haven't seen that since the mid 1980's. see if you can find it.

  • Talking about contributors, I discovered Bill via Yellow Magic Orchestra (only recently) whom he worked with, then I followed the trail via Sakamoto to Japans music with the Taking Islands track and funny how I found this Chimera mini LP at a record fair with both Karn and Hideki Matsutaki from YMO. When ever I see these names I know that some quality is involved. All influential artists from a magical era in modern pop history. (like minds I suppose)

  • Yeah. Way ahead of its time. I grew up on all this stuff and BBD. Thanks for posting.

  • I'm also both a Bill and Mick fan. Chimera is one great track after another. Classic Nelson.

  • i am a bill nelson fan..also love mick karns old japan..remember televison!! brilliant

  • Bill Nelson is a clever man, Chimera is one cool record, YT y Bills work here in amazing. This is pure erotic !!!

    thank´s for posting this.........!

  • GOD I LOVE YOUTUBE...

only a few years ago it was hard to find bill nelson...now it take seconds.

  • Nelson...one of a kind. Saw Him in LA in the 80s, he had a porn actress open for him doing a naughty cabaret! Go Bill! saw Karn do an in store concert w/ Torn & Bozzio, all instr. stuff. Karn hasn't a clue what he's playing, just does it organically. This is a great track. Thanks!

  • Definitely one of his strongest songs - and there have been many!

  • Mick Karn's basslines are amazing. How many truly UNIQUE bass players are there out there? Not many!

  • Karn, a true inovater. Must have been a major influence on Pino Palladino. Be awful to think it could have been Pino influencing Karn!

  • @littlenige One of the things I find so fascinating about this song is Mick's ability to almost play outside the confines of the song, there appears to be scant rhythm or meter in his playing, but it fits so tightly into the song, and the magical way he wanders around the notes is one of the most powerful aspects of this song. It also helps to have a musical genius the likes of Bill Nelson steering that glorious ship!

  • 2 things that are good in this world... sex and basslines played by mick...

  • Great song! Karn just rips on this!!

  • Excelente, por la participación de Robert Fripp y Mick karn. Muy arquitectónica la canción.....

  • Yeah, my two heroes together: Bill and Mick.

Pitty that old Bill is in not very good condition.

Mick is still a very handsome man.

    Thanks for posting it.

  • what do you mean 'not in very good condition' ? He's in great condition for his age and his music is better than ever. He is like a good wine my friend.

  • Yeah, you are right, damiandal.

By the way, my name is Damián!

  • Hi there Damian, nice to meet you.Always glad to meet a Bill Nelson fan. Cheers. Damian Dale

  • Great clip and thanks for sharing. However, if you're going to single out Karn for his contribution, how much more so should you give props to Yuki Takahashi? Like Nelson, YT has also risen to levels of genius throughout his 30 + year career. His influence on this phase of Nelson's work is unmistakeable, as is the inverse. Thanks again

  • modern music - Bill was ahead of his time

  • A video showing my album collection, fan bleedin tastic !!

Good old Bill and Be Bop

  • FANTASTIC, Buy Whimsy Bills best ever, clever guy on guitar...

  • Thank you, great!

  • Great tune great performance....more Bill:-)

  • And why is there not more Bill Nelson's music?

  • What I meant to type was THANKS FOR POSTING THIS. THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS EVER RECORDED. Love Bill Nelson's music and I'm so glad they re-released Chimera, The Love That Whirls (Diary Of A Thinking Heart) and Quit Dreaming And Get On The Beam.

Bill Nelson = Genius. It's too bad more people don't know who he is.

  • I know, I was the only female singer on the offical tribe for Bill Nelson's 50th birthday.. looks like its time to do a tribute soon for his 60th soon
